Jesus M Martinez 2020
Jesus M. Martinez

Jesus M. Martinez, 70, of Kermit passed away on Monday, March 2, 2020 in Odessa. Jesus was born on July 6, 1949 in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico to Cecilio Martinez and Elisa Marquez Martinez. He married Amparo Quiroz on December 2, 1983 in Kermit, TX and they shared 36 wonderful years together.

Jesus was a Christian. He was a hard working man who always provided for his family, whom he loved dearly, throughout his life. Jesus was a loving husband and father who enjoyed spending time on his ranch in Mexico in his free time. He loved being a cowboy and farming. Other pastimes he enjoyed included horse racing, cooking, music, and dancing.  Jesus will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Cecilio Cortez and Elisa Marquez Martinez; brothers: Bernabe Martinez, Carlos Martinez, and Andres Martinez.

Jesus is survived by his loving wife: Amparo Martinez of Kermit, TX; sons: Joel Martinez and wife Rocio and Miguel Martinez and wife Corina, all of Kermit, TX; brothers: Eligio Martinez of Arkansas City, KS, Saul Martinez and wife Faride of Andrews, TX, Claudio Martinez and wife Aurora of Hobbs, NM, Efrain Martinez of Hobbs, NM, Ruben Martinez of Hobbs, NM, and Arturo Martinez and wife Leticia of Ojinaga, MX; sisters: Irma Aracely and husband Alfredo of Ojinaga, MX and Maria Elena Martinez and husband Alfredo of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren: Isaac Martinez, Neima Martinez, Noel Martinez, Damian Martinez, and Magaly Martinez; and great-grandchild: Lena Martinez.

Visitation will begin Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit, TX. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit, TX. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers will include: Isaac Martinez, Damian Martinez, Eric Morales, Alex Morales, Homero Quiroz, and Arnaldo Juarez.

Arrangement are entrusted to Family Service Funeral Parlor.

Ernest Escobar

Ernest Escobar

Ernest Escobar, age 47, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2020 in Lubbock, TX. He was born December 22, 1972 in Cuidad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico to Marcelo and Ernestina (Cuellar) Escobar. Ernest married Sandra Orozco on April 15, 1996 in Winemucca, NV and they shared 24 wonderful years together.

Ernest was a member of the NRA and loved to go shooting and cooking out. His favorite pastimes included celebrating with the family and spending time with his kids and grandkids. Ernest always put others first and helped save many lives. He will be dearly missed.

Ernest is survived by his wife: Sandra Escobar of Kermit, TX; mother: Ernestina Escobar of Juarez, MX; daughters: Kazzandra Escobar and fiancÚ Caleb Francis and Samantha Escobar, all of Kermit, TX; brothers: Juan Escobar and wife Sandra, Cruz Escobar, Marcelo Escobar and wife Alejandra, Alfonso Escobar and wife Adriana Alvarez, and Pedro Escobar and wife Consuelo, all of Mexico; sisters: Guadalupe (Lupita) Munoz and husband Enrique, Amalia Escobar and husband Jose Luis Saucedo, and Irma Rodriguez and husband Eduardo, all of Mexico, and Martha Ontiveros and husband George of Anthony, NM; grandchildren: David Wayne Francis and Kourtney Marie Francis.

Ernest was preceded in death by his father: Marcelo Escobar.

Services will be privately held at a later date.
Derrick Egger 2020
Derrick Dewayne "D.D." Egger

Derrick Dewayne "D.D." Egger, age 35, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 in Kermit, TX.  He was born August 12, 1984 to Monty Zane Egger and April Day McCombs.

D.D. loved to make others laugh and was known as a jokester. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his dogs and his friends. D.D. was a big fan of Texas Tech, the Houston Astros, and the Dallas Cowboys. He was devoted to his family, especially his niece and nephew.  He will be dearly missed.

D.D. is survived by his father: Monty Egger and wife Debby of Kermit, TX; mother: April McCombs and husband Denny of Kermit, TX; grandparents: Bobby and Corene Egger of Kermit, TX and Dorothy Webb of Midland, TX; brothers: Garrett Egger and wife Yari and Michael Mason and wife Morgan, all of Andrews, TX; sister: Cyndy Kidd and husband Brenton of Midland, TX; nieces: Caaly Egger and Kynnedy Kidd; nephews: Ayden Egger, Kycen Adams, and Kelson Kidd; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

D.D. was preceded in death by his grandparents: Peggy and Kenneth Day; and great-grandparents: Arle and O.D. Egger.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2020 from 8 am - 8 pm and Sunday, March 22, 2020 from 1 pm - 8 pm at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit, TX. Services will be held on Monday, March 23, 2020 at Family Services Funeral Chapel at 10:00 am with Gary Day officiating. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include: Hunter Hardaway, Justin Wright, Ayden Egger, Ricky Kirby, Jay Bennett, Richard Melendez, and Randy Butterfield. Honorary Pallbearers are: Gary Pilkington, Caaly Egger, Johnny MacOwen, Terry Jarrett, Tanner Gill, Arron Hardaway, Steve Gordon, and Emmitt Bale.

Memorials can be made in his honor to the local AA Chapter and the Humane Society.

Genaro C Ornelas Jr 2020

Genaro Carrasco Ornelas Jr.

Genaro Carrasco Ornelas Jr., 62, of Kermit passed away on Monday, March 23, 2020 in Odessa. Genaro was born on October 26, 1957 in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico to Genaro Ornelas, Sr. and Josefa Carrasco Ornelas. He married Mary Valdez in Van Horn, TX and they shared 42 wonderful years together.

Genaro was a member of the Catholic Church. He was a very hard worker who could always be found taking care of his animals. His pastimes included, team roping, welding, and ranching. Genaro enjoyed working with his hands remodeling the house and was known for his goat BBQ and asado. He really loved being a grandpa and spoiling his babies. He will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his father: Genaro Ornelas Sr.; and brother: Adan Ornelas.

Genaro is survived by his loving wife: Mary Ornelas of Kermit, TX; mother: Josefa and husband Cruz Venegas of McCamey, TX; sons: Genaro Ornelas III and girlfriend Martiza Lujan and Jerry Ornelas and girlfriend Gabby Baeza, all of Kermit, TX; daughter: Brenda Montoya and husband Jaime of Kermit, TX; brothers: Jesus "Chuy" Ornelas and wife Alicia of Crane, TX and Isabel "Chavel" Ornelas and wife Sylvia of McCamey, TX; sisters: Ermila Venegas of Odessa, TX, Manuela Valles and Margarita Rodriguez, both of Kermit, TX, Jacinta Bustos of McCamey, TX, Maria Sanchez of Van Horn, TX, and Rosa Najera of Seminole, TX; grandchildren: Geno IV, Lexi Marie, Jaime III, Julian, Justin, and Aleyah; and great-grandchildren: Jazmyn and Amari.

Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, March 26, 2020 at Kermit Cemetery with Hector and Blanca Polanco officiating. Pallbearers will be: Genaro Ornelas III, Jerry Ornelas, Jaime Montoya Jr, Julian Montoya, Justin Montoya, and Genaro Ornelas IV. Honorary Pallbearer will be: Jaime Montoya Sr.

Julian O. Sanchez Jr.

Julian O. Sanchez Jr.

Julian O. Sanchez Jr., 72, of Kermit passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2020 in Kermit. Julian was born on Friday, July 4, 1947 in Carlsbad, NM to Julian O. Sanchez Sr. and Viola Gallego Sanchez. He married Delma Briones on June 29, 1967 in Kermit, TX and they shared 53 wonderful years together.

Julian was a member of the St. Thomas/St. Joseph Catholic Church. He worked for El Paso Natural Gas for 34 years. Julian was very active within the community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he served as Grand Knight for a period of time. Julian also served as a sponsor with the Catholic Youth Ministry, English Choir, past Booster Club President, past Winkler County Appraisal board member, board member of St. Thomas St. Joseph finance committee, school board member for 9 years as president, vice president and secretary, and grand marshall for Christmas parade in 2019. His biggest passion was helping with community projects; such as Tumbleweed Chef, Little Dribblers, Little League, and many other community projects in Kermit. Julian will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Julian O. Sr. and Viola Sanchez; son: Rudy Sanchez; brothers: Roberto Sanchez and Benny Sanchez; sister: Yolanda Sanchez; and grandsons: Damion Sanchez and Darrion Sanchez.

Julian is survived by his loving wife: Delma Sanchez of Kermit, TX; daughter: Naomi Sanchez of Phoenix, AZ; brothers: George Sanchez of Kermit, TX and Jesse Sanchez of Odessa, TX; sisters: Linda Orona and Ruby Gallardo and husband Jaime, all of Kermit, TX and Yolanda Sanchez of Jal, NM; sister-in-law: Faye Sanchez of Pecos, TX; and granddaughter: Savanah Tapia of Phoenix, AZ.

Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Friday, March 27, 2020 at Kermit Cemetery with Father Gleen Carpe officiating. Pallbearers will be: Marco Aranda, Juan Valenzuela, Jason Ahrendt, Frank Martinez, Rey Carrasco, Eric Gallardo, and Rodney Berzoza. Honorary Pallbearers will include: Anna Carrillo, Monica Orona, George Sanchez, and Jesse Sanchez.

Beverly Prather 2020
Beverly Ann Prather

Beverly Ann Prather, age 79, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2020 in Kermit, TX. She was born on Monday, June 17, 1940 in Odessa, TX to Sterling R. and Elsie Viola (Beck) Scott. She married Kenneth Wayne Prather on April 6, 1963 in Odessa, TX and they shared 53 wonderful years together until his passing in 2016.

Beverly was a member of the Eastside Church of Christ. She was known as the bird lady and the crosswalk lady. She raised and bred canaries, cockatiels, parakeets, finches, and Quaker birds and was a former owner of a pet store. Her pastimes included crocheting, working the daily crossword puzzles, watching tv, going for rides around town with her friend, collecting bird related what-nots, and enjoying her Diet Coke from Allsups. Beverly delivered the newspaper around Kermit for years.  She will be dearly missed.

Beverly is survived by her sons: Kevin Prather of Midland, TX and Scott Prather and wife Kerry of Odessa, TX; daughter: Kendra Prather of Kermit, TX; grandchildren: David Prather, Weldon Prather and wife Gabriela, Ashton Prather and wife Andrea Cabrera, and Blake Blackwell; great-grandchildren: Gabby Prather, Lukas Prather, and Adrian Prather.

Beverly was preceded in death by her husband: Kenneth Prather; parents: Sterling and Viola Scott; and grandson: Cody Brooks Prather.

Services will be privately held at a later date.

Memorials may be made in her honor to the local animal shelter or pound.

Charlotte Fletcher 2020

Charlotte Fletcher

Charlotte Fletcher, age 62, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2020 in Odessa, TX. She was born on June 15, 1957 in Lucedale, MS to Luther and Martha Bell (Creel) Smith.

Charlotte enjoyed working around the house and watching movies. She loved visiting with family and friends. Charlotte will be dearly missed.

Charlotte is survived by her daughter: Stephanie Van Noy and husband Mark of Topeka, KS; brothers: Rodger Smith and wife Marty Shufer of Odessa, TX, David Smith and Bobby Smith and wife Shellie, all of Trinity, AL; sister: Dimple Kennedy of Wink, TX; grandchildren: Joshua, Matt, and Brandon; and great-grandchild: Laney.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents: Luther and Martha Smith; and sister: Janette Beasley.

Maria Elena Dominguez

Maria Elena Dominguez went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 12, 2020 in Arlington, TX at the age of 83. She was born on July 9, 1936 in Marathon, TX to Manuel and Ventura (Terrazas) Fierro.

Maria was a member of the Catholic Church. She was a very outgoing person who never met a stranger. Maria was a very hard worker and loved to help others. Her favorite pastimes included working with the Pink Ladies and helping others with food, clothing, and transportation. She will be dearly missed.

Maria leaves behind her sons: Juan Dominguez Jr of Ft. Stockton, TX, Pablo Dominguez and wife Armedia of Ft. Worth, TX, and Pedro Dominguez and wife Socorro of Ft. Stockton, TX; daughters: Bessie Ybarra and husband Fernando Jr. of Irving, Tx, Olga Dominguez of Blooming Grove, TX, and Danna Galindo and husband Jose of Midland, TX; brother: Mike Fierro and wife Amelia of Odessa, TX; sisters: Connie Acosta and Lupe Garcia, both of Odessa, TX; 19 grandchildren;  29 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great grandchildren.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents: Manuel and Ventura Fierro; sister: Margarita Berzoza; brothers: Sonny Fierro, Gabriel Fierro, and Tino Fierro; brother-in-laws: Reymundo Berzoza and Manuel Garcia; and grandson: Christopher Galindo.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, April 17, 2020 at Kermit Cemetery with Father Gleen Carpe officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jonathan Lopez, Pablo Dominguez Jr., Johnny Dominguez, Javier Ybarra, Julian Chavez, Jose Galindo Jr., Javier Ybarra Jr., and Adrian Dominguez.

Ricardo Saenz 2020

Ricardo Rodriguez Saenz

Ricardo Rodriguez Saenz, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2020 in Kermit. He was born on December 16, 1932 to Salvador and Balvaneda (Rodriguez) Saenz in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico. Ricardo married Hilaria Lujan on January 13, 1956 in Mexico and they shared 64 wonderful years together.

Ricardo was known as "El Totoy" by his friends and family. He enjoyed working around the house doing odd jobs, driving around town, and visiting with his friends and family in Kermit and Mexico. He will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Salvador and Balvaneda Saenz; and his son: Baudilio Saenz.

Ricardo is survived by his loving wife: Hilaria Saenz of Kermit, TX; sons: Israel Saenz of Ojinaga, MX, Salvador Saenz and wife Esther, Ricardo Saenz, and Gilbert Saenz, all of Kermit, TX; daughters: Soila Palma and husband Cesar and Maribel S Muniz and husband Eugenio, all of Kermit, TX; brother: Hector Saenz and wife Emma of Kermit, TX; sister: Guadalupe Ramirez and husband Ricardo of Wink, TX; 19 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10:00 am Friday, May 1, 2020 at Kermit Cemetery with Noel Porras officiating. Pallbearers will be: Rigo Muniz, Richard Muniz, Eron Saenz, Abram Saenz, Joel Saenz, Joey Pedraza, and Eliberto Saenz.  Honorary Pallbearers will include: Gilbert Saenz, Jr. and Ryan Muniz.

ELVIRA FLORES 2020

Elvira R. Flores

Elvira R. Flores went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 9, 2020 in Wink, TX at the age of 88. She was born on May 26, 1931 in Coyame, Chihuahua, Mexico to Severano and Julia (Valeriano) Rodriguez. She married Cirilo B. Flores on March 16, 1946 in Guadalupe, MX and they shared 58 wonderful years together until he passed away in 2004.

Elvira loved to travel and visit family. Her favorite pastimes included reading the Bible, sewing, and crocheting. She also enjoyed talking and spoiling her grandkids. She will be dearly missed.

Elvira leaves behind her daughters: Juana Flores of Porvenir D.B., MX; Velia Mendez and husband Porfirio of Wink, TX; Delia Maese and husband Jesus of Chico, TX; Lidia Barraza and husband Vicente of Porvenir D.B., MX; Leticia Briones and husband Edmundo and Alma Estrada and husband Simon, all of Kermit, TX; Yolanda Lopez and husband Ramon of Jal, NM; and Frances Salazar and husband Jose of Oklahoma City, OK; brother: Oscar Rodriguez of Jal, NM; sisters: Estela Uranga of Juarez, MX and Tomasa Prieto and husband Antonio of El Paso, TX; 40 grandchildren;  105 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great grandchildren.

Elvira was preceded in death by her husband: Cirilo Flores; parents: Severano and Julia Rodriguez; sons: Israel Flores and Porfirio Flores; daughter: Francisca Flores; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at First Baptist Church with Elio Barrios officiating. Pallbearers will be Carlos Lopez, Miguel Vidana, Abel Estrada, Ryan Munoz, Jaime Estrada, Jose Maese, and Daniel Pineda. Burial will follow at Kermit Cemetery in Kermit, TX.

The family would also like to send a special thank you to Home Hospice and the nurses and caregivers who dedicated their time and efforts to caring for our Elvira and thanks to Brenda Pineda for stepping in when ever called upon.

Dakota Brown 2020

Dakota Alton Brown

Dakota Alton Brown, age 28, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2020 in Wink, TX.  He was born December 23, 1991 in Odessa, TX to Buford Dewayne Brown and Wendy Jo Wall Compton.

Dakota had a wicked sense of humor and never met a stranger. He lived life by his own rules and had a big heart.  He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.

Dakota is survived by his girlfriend: Stacy Webster of Wink, TX; parents: Wendy Compton and husband Shane of Wink, TX and Dewayne Brown and wife Robin of Carlsbad, NM; grandmother: Vicky "Oma" Wall of Wink, TX; great-grandmother: Vella Wall of Kermit, TX; son: Braddox Putman of Odessa, TX; brothers: Brantlee Brown and fiancÚ Kelsie Fleetwood of Denton, TX and Alec Compton of Wink, TX; sister: Awbrie Medina and fiancÚ Haley Montgomery of Tampa, FL; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Dakota was preceded in death by his grandfather: Joe "Sarge" Wall, Sr.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2020 at Family Services Funeral Parlor in Kermit, TX from 4 pm - 8 pm. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 22, 2020 at 10 am in Wink, TX at the driving range on Airport Road.
