Thomas R Henson 2019
Thomas R. Henson

Thomas R. Henson, age 62, of Kermit, TX, passed from this life on Saturday, September 14, 2019.  He was born in Bismarck, MO on September 16, 1956 to Carter Counts and Mary Marie (Lincoln).  Thomas married Dodie McCurdy and September 9, 2018 and they celebrated one year together.

Thomas first and foremost loved music.  He was a member of a band called the "Runners," and was a guitarist, drummer, singer and song writer.  He loved to work on classic cars with his brother and work on wood as a carpenter.  Thomas enjoyed fishing and was a hard worker.  He was known to play jokes on family members and was affectionately known as "Uncle Turtle" to friends and family.

He is survived by his wife:  Dodie Henson of Carlsbad, NM; son:  Forest Howard Henson of Midland, TX; brothers:  Lee Henson of Kermit, TX and Billy Ames and wife Joyce of Bismarck, MO; sisters:  Ruth Custer of Odessa, TX, Maggie Smithhart and husband Allen of Kermit, TX., Wanda Melton of Kermit, TX, Mary Mabery of Bonne Terre, MO, and Christina Harris and husband Richard of Tucson, AZ; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Carter Counts, and Mary Hill; brothers:  Carter Counts, Jr. and Joe Henson; and sisters:  Mary Lee Hughes and Shirley Verdin.

Funeral Services with will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, September 19, 2019 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit, TX with Pastor Joe Mohler officiating.  Burial will follow at the Psalms 23 Cemetery.  Pallbearers will include: Tommy Smithhart, Chris Isbell, Steven Smithhart, Allen Smithhart Jr., Bobby Custer, Gary Hughes, and Joe Hughes.  Honorary Pallbearers will include:  Forest Henson, Charlie Rideout, Nick Smithhart, and Esai Lara.

Charles “Charlie” William Carroll

Charles “Charlie” William Carroll

Charles “Charlie” William Carroll, age 74, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2019 in Wink. Charlie was born on August 30, 1945 to Frank and Virgie Lorene (McGee) Carroll in Dallas, TX. Charlie married Wynona Roberts on August 30, 2005 in Wink, TX.

Charlie was a devoted father and grandfather who loved his family, pets, and the Lord. He was a hard worker who liked to stay busy and enjoyed being a truck driver. His favorite pastimes included watching westerns and listening to classic country music. Charlie had a very generous heart and was always helping others. He will be dearly missed.

Charlie is survived by his wife: Wynona Carroll of Wink, TX; sons: David Carroll and wife Patricia of Kapolei, HI, Daniel Carroll and wife Kris of Lago Vista, TX, Jackie Eastep and wife Teresa of Wink, TX, Jimmy Eastep and wife Tonya of Wink, TX, and Thomas Blakeney of Garden City, TX; daughters: Diana Mendez and husband Freddie of Odessa, TX, Lavern Carroll of Dallas, TX, and Norma Eastep of Kermit, TX; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Virgie Carroll; and sons: Timothy Carroll and John Blakeney.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Family Services Funeral Chapel with Brother Terry Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Jimmy Eastep, Jackie Eastep, Michael Fabbri, Gerald Fabbri, Graham Fabbri, and Hector Salinas. Honorary pallbearers are: Henry Dawson, Jackie Voyles, Jimbo Eastep, Royce Roberts, David Carroll, Daniel Carroll, Billy Ashing, and Chris Blakeney.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the local first responders.
Anastacio Vasquez 2019
Anastacio Aranda Vasquez 

Anastacio Aranda Vasquez, age 92, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 in Kermit, TX. Anastacio was born on January 5, 1927 in Mulato, Chihuahua, Mexico to Agapito and Juana Antonia (Aranda) Vasquez. He married Obdulia Montoya on November 18, 1950 in Mulato, Mexico and they shared 69 wonderful years together. 

Anastacio was a rancher and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed watching western shows, boxing, playing pool, and riding horses. His favorite pastime was playing with all of his grandkids. He will be dearly missed.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his wife: Obdulia M. Vasquez of Kermit, TX; sons: Mario M. Vasquez and wife Margarita of Kermit, TX and Anastacio M. Vasquez Jr. and wife Juani of Odessa, TX; daughters: Maria Luisa and husband Vicente and Anna Ramos and husband Chuy, all of Kermit, TX; sister: Patricia V. Gomez of El Paso, TX; grandchildren: Rudy, Rigo, Corina, Leo, Poloy, Claudia, Margarito, Mario, Nathan, Elinardo, Clarisaly, Karinaly, Edgar, Eric, Ervey, Yanet, Erica, New Lee, Jeffrey, and J.J.; and 36 great-grandchildren.

Ramon was preceded in death by his parents: Agapito and Antonia Vasquez; son: Heriberto M. Vasquez; brother: Luis Vazquez; sisters: Eleanor Vasquez, Jesus Vasquez, Maria Vasquez, Dominga Vasquez, and Facha Vasquez; and great-grandchild: Delaney Quiroz Lares.

A prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm, Thursday, October 10, 2019 at Family Services Funeral Parlor. Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, October 11, 2019 at Family Services Funeral Parlor with Pastor Noel Porras officiating.  Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers will include New Lee Ramos, Jeffrey Ramos, Rudy Lares, Rigo Lares, Elinardo Vasquez, Edgar Vasquez, Margarito Vasquez, and Nathan Vasquez. Honorary pallbearers will include: Mario A. Vasquez, J.J. Ramos, Leo Lares, Eric Vasquez,  Ervey Vasquez, Janet Vasquez, and Erica Vasquez.

Sarah Elizabeth Dorman

Sarah Elizabeth Dorman, age 21, passed away Friday, October 11, 2019 in Mentone, TX.  Sarah was born on October 13, 1997 to Timothy (Freddy) Earl Dorman and Janice Rhenea Strickland in Meridian, MS.

Sarah was a member of the Grace Temple Baptist Church in Kermit. She graduated from Kermit High School in 2016. She was a loving and caring family oriented person with a great sense of humor. Sarah loved making people laugh. She also enjoyed getting Starbucks coffee and having her nails done. She was hooked on the tv show Friends. She was known for baking desserts and cooking for family. Sarah was a very supportive aunt who was always traveling to support her nieces and nephews in their extracurricular activities. She will be dearly missed.

Sarah is survived by her fiance: Dillon Wayne Gowen of Monahans, TX; his parents: Misty and Joe Gowan of Boaz, KY; her parents: Freddy Dorman of Kermit, TX and Janice Strickland of Union, MS; grandparents: Patricia and Keith Holloway of Jackson, MS; sisters: Kristin Miller and husband Josh of Wink, TX, Jessica Brooks and husband Jacob of Kermit, TX, and Amber Tippy of Union, MS; and nieces and nephew: Madi, Kenzie, Macie, Kylee, Marlee, Maddox, Lilly, Cheyenne, Frayah, and two on the way (Katie and William).

Sarah was preceded in death by her grandmother: Elizabeth Strickland; grandfather: James Strickland; uncle: Bo Dorman; and aunt: Jennifer Tidwell.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at Grace Temple Baptist Church in Kermit, TX. A Funeral Service will be held at 6:00 pm, Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at Grace Temple Baptist Church in Kermit, TX officiated by Brother Doug Bates.  Pallbearers will include: Josh Miller, Aaron Sullivan, Dillon Gowen, Ifrain Nunez, Alan Ibarra, Johnny Lalonde, and J.J. Hefner. Honorary Pallbearers will include: Keith Holloway, Shaun Sullivan, Junior Roberson, and her many friends and relatives. A funeral and burial will take place in Meridian, MS, handled by McClain Hayes Funeral Home.

Elmer Dean White

Elmer Dean White

Elmer Dean White passed away on October 13, 2019 in Kermit, TX. He was born on July 14, 1946 to Elmer Lonzo and Oma Florene (Willett) White in Monahans, TX. He married Diane Kay Shamblin on June 30, 1973 in Midland, TX and they shared 46 wonderful years together.

Elmer was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He loved to golf, fish and hunt but his favorite pastime was spoiling his princess Di. Elmer was a man of many talents, including carpentry and being an architect. He had a very unassuming personality and was a friend to all. Elmer was known as a gentle man and a gentleman who was solid, dependable and loved taking care of others. Elmer worked for Bass/ Sid Richardson Company for over 30 years and was a certified electrician. He was the best husband in the world. Elmer will be dearly missed by all his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife: Diane White of Kermit, TX; brothers: Lonnie Gene White of Wink, TX and Michael Keith White of Kermit, TX; sister: Francis Ashley of Irving, TX; and sister-in-law: Elizabeth White.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Elmer and Florene White and brother: Ivan Wayne White.
Memorial services will be at 3:00 pm on Friday, October 18, 2019 at First United Methodist Church in Kermit, officiated by Beth Harrington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Alonzo Pando 2019
Alonzo A. Pando Sr.

Alonzo A. Pando Sr., age 92, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2019 in Odessa. Alonzo was born on November 30, 1926 in Loraine, TX to Alfredo Sr. and Luisa (Acosta) Pando. He married Emma Berzoza on January 30, 1952 in Lovington, NM and they shared 57 years together until she passed away on April 28, 2009.

Alonzo was a member of the St. Thomas / St. Joseph Catholic Church. He loved cooking and was known for his famous tamales, enchiladas, menudo, empanadas, and asado. Alonzo also enjoyed riding his scooter and visiting people, but his favorite pastime was giving Corinna hell. He was lovingly called “Pop” by his family. Alonzo will be dearly missed.

Alonzo is survived by his sons: Gustavo Pando of Odessa, TX and Alonzo Pando Jr. and wife Doris of El Paso, TX; daughter: Corinna Garcia and husband Jimmy of Wink, TX; brothers: Alfredo Pando Jr. and wife Delia of Kermit, TX and Amador Pando of Andrews, TX; sister: Connie Dominguez and husband Nick of Hobbs NM; sister-in-law: Tonya Pando of Kermit ,TX; grandchildren: Rosa, Melissa, April, Jessica, Alonzo III, Gabrielle, Gustavo II, and Ann Marie; great-grandchildren: Jaron, Bridgett, Isaac, Eloy, Arturo III, Zuri, Dallas, Libra, Aubrey, Lily, Alana, and Emily.

Alonzo was preceded in death by his wife: Emma Pando; parents: Alfredo and Luisa Pando; sisters: Yolanda Carrasco, Francis Nave, and Josefina Pena; and brothers: Albert Pando and Abelardo Pando.

A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 7:00 pm at Family Services Funeral Parlor. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas / St. Joseph Catholic Church officiated by Father Jose de la Cruz Longoria in Kermit. Burial will follow at Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Eli Pando, Eddie Pando, Darrel Pando, Oscar Pena, Benny Carrasco, Julio Pena, Tony Pando, and Reymundo Berzoza.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any Alzheimer’s foundation.

Rosa Nunez 2019

Rosa Maria Nunez

Rosa Maria Nunez, age 71, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 in Midland, TX. She was born June 1, 1948 in Santa Eulalia, Chihuahua, Mexico to Pedro and Maria Ortiz Carreon.

Rosa was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Jal, New Mexico where she was an active member and recited the rosary every morning. Rosa loved to cook and she enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and face time with her great grandchildren. Rosa also liked to go shopping in Chihuahua, Mexico.

Rosa is survived by her husband: Raymundo Nunez of Jal, New Mexico; sons: Hector Enrique Caraveo Ortiz of Odessa, TX; and Ramiro Caraveo Ortiz of Chihuahua, Mexico; and daughters: Rosalba Caraveo  Lujan and her spouse Chon of Odessa, TX; Alma Brisa Caraveo and her spouse Eric Brown of Odessa, TX; brothers: Sergio Ortiz and Mario Ortiz both of Chihuahua, Mexico; sisters: Mila Ortiz of Albuquerque, NM;  Chavela Ortiz of Chihuahua, Mexico; grandchildren: Emily, Nuni, Christian, Enrique, Soraya, Klever, Rosita, Jackie, Nallely, Stacey, Hector, Laura, and Stephanie; great-grandchildren: Anais, Maxon, Kennedy, Noah, Isaiah, and Hector, Jr.

Rosa is preceded in death by her parents: Pedro and Maria Ortiz: brothers: Raul Ortiz and Pepe Ortiz; sisters: Coti Saucedo and Olivia Ortiz.

A visitation will be on Thursday, October 24, 2019 from 8am to 8pm at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit, Texas.

A Rosary will be held on Friday, October 25, 2019 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Jal, New Mexico at 7:00 pm MST.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am MST, Saturday, October 26, 2019 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Jal, New Mexico  officiated by Father Jorge Vargas with a burial to follow at the Jal Cemetery in Jal, New Mexico. Pallbearers will include: Hector Lujan, Guadalupe Nunez, Jr., Richard Nunez, Nathaniel Garcia, Travis Garcia, Mark Savala and Daniel Olivas. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Ramiro Caraveo, Enrique Caraveo, Chon Lujan, Eric Brown, Raymundo Ortiz and Martin Guardiola, Jr.

Billie Jean Bell

Billie Jean Bell, age 63, of Kermit, Texas, passed from this life surrounded by family at her home on Wednesday, October 30th, 2019. She was born in Seymour, Baylor County, Texas on June 24th, 1956 to Billy Alexander and Vonda (O’Harrow) Shipman. Billie married Bill on August 9th, 1971 in Seymour, Texas and they celebrated 48 years together.

Jeannie, as she was known to many people, was a housewife and child sitter for many years. She was a wonderful cook. She loved to fish and chase her grandkids around in whatever sports they were involved in. Jeannie adored spoiling her grandkids every chance she had. She had a big heart and was always willing to help anyone that needed a hand.

Jeannie is survived by her mother: Vonda (O’Harrow) Shipman of Seymour, TX; husband: Bill “Tooter” Bell of Kermit, TX; sons: Michael Bell and wife Michelle of Kermit, TX and Steve Bell and wife Trisha of Pflugerville, TX; daughters: Shirley Cleere and husband Wayne of Midland and Lisa Woods and husband Charles of Kermit; brother: Michael Alexander of Holiday, TX; sisters: Gloria Alexander of Rising Star, TX, Vickie Jackson of Lake Dallas, TX and LaDonna Conder of Olney, TX; grandchildren: Derek Woods of Kerrville, TX, Makayla Cleere and Colton Cleere of Midland, TX, Savannah Bell, Abram Bell, Christian Bell and Lucas Bell of Kermit, TX.

She was preceded in death by her father, Billy Alexander and step-father, Olaff Shipman.

Maurine Burns 2019

Maurine Joyce Vickrey Burns

Maurine Joyce Vickrey Burns, age 82, passed away on November 7, 2019 in Midland, TX. Maurine was born on June 10, 1937 in Goree, TX to Alfred "Shorty"  and Juanita Adela (Morton) Vickrey.  Maurine married James Clifford Burns on February 28, 1958 in Kermit, TX and they celebrated 60 years together before he passed away in 2018.

Maurine was a longtime charter member of Belvue Baptist church in Kermit.  She was a beautician for 15 years, managed JMB. Oil Company for many years, and was the "Boss" at Burns Electric.  Maurine was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  "Meemee" was the special name she went by for her grandkids, great-grandkids, and many in the community.

Maurine is survived by her son:  Gene Burns and wife Reta of Odessa, TX.; daughters: Vickie Burns Lance of Kermit, TX., Linda Burns McCombs and husband Dale of Midland, TX.; son-in-law:  Joe Deaton of Kermit, TX.; sister:  Nadine Walton and husband Cecil of San Angelo, TX; grandchildren:  Monica Bowerman, J.W. Roberson, Brian Roberson, Shannon Armstrong, B.J. Vuicich, Lacy Jones, Andy Burns, Summer Burns, Dusty Funderburk, and Sara Rich; 20 great-Grandchildren; and numerous: Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.

Maurine was preceded in death by her husband: James C. Burns; parents:  Alfred "Shorty"  and Juanita Vickrey; and daughter:  Carla Burns Deaton; brother:  Roland Vickrey; and sister-in-law:  Katie Vickrey.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm, Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Belvue Baptist Church officiated by Brother Bobby Braswell.  Burial will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Tricia Wilkerson, Estrella Torres, Jessyca Jones, Rosetta Stanford, Sonya Gomez, and Dezaray Navarro.  Honorary Pallbearers will include:  Rick Crawford, Mitchell Sims, J.C. Williams, Tim Stansel, Danny Harris, Randon Bradford, Malcolm Bryant, Jim Ellison, Paul Underwood, Mike Warren and Dr. Aaron Jasso, and David Costello.

In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St Jude Children's Hospital  PO Box 1000 Dept 142  Memphis , TN  38101-9908; or the charity of your choice.

Rosa Roman 2019

Rosa Vejil Roman

Rosa Vejil Roman, age 88, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2019 in Odessa, TX. She was born May 13, 1931 in Marfa, TX to Demecio Navarrette and Anita (Velasco) Vejil. She married Johnnie H. Roman in 1950 in Balmorhea, TX and they shared 64 wonderful years together.

Rosa was a member of the St. Joseph/St. Thomas Catholic Church in Kermit. Rosa retired from KISD in 2011 at the age of 80. She loved dancing to mariachi music, singing, and was an avid collector of knick knacks. Family was very important to Rosa and she loved them deeply. Rosa instilled a very strong work ethic into her family. She was the rock of the family. She will be dearly missed by all.

Rosa is survived by her sons: Albert Roman and wife Alice of Ft. Stockton, TX and Archie Roman and wife Sally of Odessa, TX; daughters: Armida Roman of Ft. Worth, TX, Adela Capps and husband Jimmy of Kermit, TX, and Sandy Nelson and husband Mike of Midland, TX; sister: Rosa Lee “Chawa” Dominguez of Balmorhea, TX; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Rosa is preceded in death by her husband: Johnnie Roman; parents: Demecio and Anita Vejil; six brothers; and five sisters.

A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at Family Services Funeral Chapel at 7:00 pm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at St. Thomas/St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit, TX  officiated by Father Gleen Carpe with a burial to follow at the Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers will include: Tony Underwood, Stephen Underwood, Joshua Roman, Joe Mark Roman, Jacob Roman, Jonathan Albert “Cubby” Roman, and Rene Roman. Honorary Pallbearer will be Blake Rackley.   

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any Alzheimer’s association in Rosa’s honor.
