Carlos Ramirez Navarrete

Carlos Ramirez Navarrete, age 55, passed away on Friday, February 22, 2019 in Odessa. Carlos was born on July 13, 1963 in Chihuahua, Mexico to Abram and Flora (Ramirez) Navarrete.

Carlos enjoyed listening to music and loved sports - baseball and football, especially the Dallas Cowboys.

Carlos is survived by his son: Fabian Navarrette and fiancée Victoria Martinez of Loving, NM; daughters: Priscilla Rodriguez and her husband Alan of Kermit, TX; Kriscilla Navarrette of Kermit, TX; brothers: Isidro Navarrete and his wife Francisca of El Paso, TX, Abraham Navarrette and his wife Josefina of Dallas, TX, Roberto Navarrete of Dallas, TX, and Abel Navarrete of El Paso, TX; sisters: Eduvijes N. Artalejo and her husband David of Jal, NM, Luz Navarrette and her husband Jorge of Dallas, TX, Elsa Soto and her husband Angel of Dallas, TX; grandchildren: Vincent Navarrette, Aalijah Navarrette, Masyn Juarez, and Noah Rodriguez.

Carlos was preceded in death by his parents, Abram and Flora Navarrete.

Visitation will start Monday, February 25, 2019 at 832 Hillcrest Jal, NM.

Rosary will be Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 7:00 pm at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Jal, NM.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at 12:00 pm at St Cecilia Catholic Church with burial to follow in the Jal Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Fabian Navarrette, Junior Navarrette, Joel Navarrette, Raul Navarrette, Manuel Artalejo and Peter Santos.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: David Artalejo, Abel Navarrette, Roberto Navarrette, Johnathan Mora, Isidro Navarrette, Oscar Navarrette, Rene Navarrette, and Noel Navarrette.

Connie H. Rios

Connie H. Rios, age 70, passed away at her home on Wednesday, February 27, 2019. Connie was born August 21, 1948 in Monahans, TX to Benancio and Arculana (Valencia) Hernandez. She married Roberto Rios in Kermit, TX and they celebrated 47 years together.

Connie loved working on crossword puzzles, playing BINGO, crocheting, and was often found watching her novelas.  She was a proud longtime resident of Wink, TX.  She adored her family especially her grandchildren whom called her "Nana".

Connie is survived by her husband:  Robert "Beto" Rios of Kermit, TX; sons:  Adam Campos of Lubbock, TX, Israel "Tonka" Rios of Kermit, TX, Robert Rios and wife Jennifer of Odessa, TX; step-son:  Robert Luna and wife Luz of Odessa, TX; daughter: Lorena Rios and husband Jose Mendez of Odessa, TX; brothers:  Rudy Hernandez and wife Gloria of Monahans, TX, Ruben Hernandez of Monahans, TX, Ramon Hernandez of Monahans, TX, Esuvio "Chavo" Hernandez and wife Dora A. of Odessa, TX, Frederico "Fred" Hernandez and wife Rosemary of Big Spring, TX; sister:  Sulema Hernandez of Monahans, TX; 19 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren with two more on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents:  Benancio and Arculana Hernandez and daughter:  Isabel Rios.

Memorial services will be held 7 pm, Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Dee's Bistro 622 North Lee Street Odessa, TX.  All are welcome to celebrate Connie's memory with the family.

Homer Towns 2019
Homero Onofre Towns

Homero O. Towns, age 77, passed away on February 28, 2019 in Odessa, TX.  Homero was born on June 28, 1941 in Eagle Pass, TX to Octaviano and Cruz (Morin) Towns.  He married Juanita (Sigala) on September 24, 1966 in Midland, TX and they celebrated 52 years together.

"Homer," as he was known to his friends, loved woodworking, photography, and making videos.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand or play a joke.  He was devoted to his family and his "grand-dogs".  Among his family, he earned the special nickname of "Boss".  He will be greatly missed by his "gopher".

He was preceded in death by his parents: Octaviano and Cruz Towns; brothers:  Gilbert Towns Sr. and Oscar Towns; and sisters:  Belia Towns and Oralia Serna.

Homer is survived by his wife: Juanita Towns of Kermit, TX; daughters:  Cecilia Towns of Kermit, TX, Clarissia Lynn and husband Chad of Midland, TX and Becky Hernandez and husband Mike of Kermit, TX; grandchildren:  Arianna Lynn and Miguel Hernandez; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Rosary will be held 7:00 pm, Monday, March 4, 2019 at Family Services Funeral Chapel.  Funeral Mass will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at St. Thomas/St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit with Father Gleen Carpe officiating.  Burial will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Pallbearers will include:   Mike Hernandez, Chad Lynn, Miguel Hernandez, Gilbert Towns Jr., Victor Berzoza, and Sammy Briones.  Honorary Pallbearers will include:  Carlos Briones, Rogelio Aranda (deceased) and Mike Kadrieski.

Vida Jeannette Rogers 2019

Vida "Jeannette" Rogers

Vida "Jeannette" Rogers, age 80, passed away Sunday March 3, 2019 in Odessa, TX.  Jeannette was born on April 5, 1938 to Claude H. and Arlee Mae (Bagwell) Willingham in Ballinger, TX. She married Elton Rogers Jr. on May 24, 1957 in Garden City, TX and they celebrated 61 years together.

Jeannette was a member of the Wink Church of Christ.  She enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles,  crossword puzzles, and reading (especially her Bible).  She loved taking road trips and shopping.  Often, Jeannette could be found sewing, crocheting, or knitting.  She was a fantastic cook and her dishes will be missed by her family.  Jeannette was always taking care of people which lead to her long nursing career.  She was extremely proud of her family and loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother.

Jeannette is survived by her husband:  Elton A. Rogers Jr. of Kermit, TX; daughters:  Debra Callihan of Corpus Christi, TX, Charlene S. Zavala of Kermit, TX, Cindy Lee Rogers of Kermit, TX, and Tammy Lee Coleman of Dryden, TX; grandchildren:  E. J. Callihan, Misty Falder and husband Shane, Jeremy Zavala and wife Priscilla, Jacob Zavala, Candi Elrod and husband Justin, and Brandi Jones; great-grandchildren:  Zoe Watkins, Landry Falder, Nayeli Zavala, Eliana Zavala, Araceli Zavala, Junior Zavala, Jasmine Elrod, Luke Elrod, and Crystal Parker; and cousins:  Vanessa Bagwell, Randy Bagwell, Dee Roy Bagwell, and Jerry Don Bagwell.

Jeannette was preceded in death by her parents:  Claude and Arlee Willingham; and her brother:  Jimmy Roy Willingham.

Memorial Services will be held 10:00 am, Thursday, March 7, 2019 at the Wink Church of Christ in Wink, TX officiated by Brother Terry Hill.  Honorary Pallbearers will include:  Jeremy Zavala, Jacob Zavala, E. J. Callihan, Shane Falder, Stacy Shea Rogers, and the men of the Wink Church of Christ.

Ernie McKay Long

Ernie McKay Long, age 51, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019 in Lubbock. Ernie was born on July 19, 1967 to Darwin and Lina (Cleveland) Long in Lovington, New Mexico. Ernie was born and raised in Lovington, New Mexico and moved to Kermit around 1990.

Ernie was a long time employee of Rapid Transport. Ernie enjoyed collecting guns. Ernie was a genius with everyone’s computers and phones. Ernie loved to help anyone anyway he could. Ernie will be missed by many and replaced by none.

Ernie is survived his mother, Lina Markley of Kermit, TX; brothers; Billy Jack Cravens of Kermit, TX; Timothy Ray Cravens and his wife Minnie of Tyler, TX; and Richard Lee Cravens of Kermit, TX; Ernest Long of Monument, NM;  sisters, Shelby Cravens of Kermit, TX; and Brenda Carrigan and her husband Larry of Carlsbad, NM.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Laura Sue Cravens; brothers, Dennis Ray Long and Donal Lee Long and sister, Sandra Jean Moorefield.

A memorial service will be on Monday, March 11, 2019 at 2:00pm at the Family Services Funeral Chapel.

James Douglas Arnold 

James Douglas Arnold, age 83, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019 in Odessa. James was born on Sunday, June 7, 1935 in Brown County, Texas to John Velmer and Elizabeth (Reynolds) Arnold. James married Carmen Bush in Lovington, New Mexico on February 23, 1956 and they shared 63 years together.

James was a Baptist and when he was not working he enjoyed being around friends and family especially his grandkids and great-grandkids.

James is survived by his wife Carmen Arnold of Kermit; sons: Joe Arnold and wife Tonya of Big Spring; John Arnold of Kermit; daughter: Betty Ann Arnold of Kermit; brother, Dalton Arnold and wife Geraldine of Kermit; sister, Natha Lee Butler of Round Rock; grandchildren: Joni and  husband Paul Bailey of Big Spring; Toni and husband Kraig Walker of Coahoma; Jaime and  husband Mark Anthony of Levelland; Jeremy and wife Stacy Arnold of Victoria; Nicole and husband Dustin Jones of Midland; Danelle Fruge of Muleshoe; and Ryan Arnold of Kermit; great-grandchildren: Tara, Caliber, Jacob of Big Spring; MaKaila, Braidon, Dillon of Coahoma; Tailor, Marissa, Izac, Zachery of Levelland; Easton and Emersyn of Victoria; Wesley, Bailey, Scarlett, Dakotah, Jakotah, Sebastian of Midland; and Shane of Kermit; and the first great-great-granddaughter, Hazel Quinn will be arriving soon.

James was preceded in death by his parents, John Velmer and Elizabeth Arnold, sisters: Johnnie Stockton and Nell Light and brother, Stanley Arnold.

A memorial service will be Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church with Brother Dudley Mullins officiating with Ed Simmons assisting.

Pallbearers will be: Bobby Arnold, Kenneth Arnold, Jimmy Don Arnold, Ricky Kidd, Dean Lee, and Kerry Jones.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Joe Hoyt Akers, Steven Bush, Garth Land, Joe Lee Stockton, Wayne Cooper, Mike Cooper, and Andrew Butler.

Kassie Denyse Whittington Powers

Kassie Denyse Whittington Powers, age 36, passed away at her home on Wednesday, March 13, 2019. Kassie was born March 4, 1983 in Andrews, TX. She married John Paul Powers in Kermit, TX and they celebrated 21 years together.

Kassie loved her kids and wanted to stay home with them.  She was a good mother, wife, and daughter.  Kassie had a good heart and was concerned with helping others.

Kassie is survived by her husband:  John Paul Powers of Kermit, TX; son:  Jonathan November Jackson Powers of Kermit, TX; daughter: Kiara Damia Lynn Powers of Kermit, TX; mother:  Wanda Jones Whittington; brother:  Frankie Franco of Odessa, TX; sister:  Ashley Baumgardner and husband Bud of Comanche, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father:  Jack Whittington and her birth mother:  Janice Franco.

A memorial service will be privately held at a later date.

Benny G. Sanchez, age 50, passed away from this life on Friday, March 15, 2019 in Odessa, TX. Benny was born on Sunday, July 28, 1968 in Kermit, Texas to Julian Sr. and Viola (Gallego) Sanchez. 

Benny was a member of the Catholic Church.  He was a big Dallas Cowboy fan and was known for his love of music.  To those that knew him, Benny was a humble, hardworking man who loved to travel, and cook BBQ for his friends.  He was a very loving person especially when it came to his daughter Anyssa.  Benny was graduate of the Kermit High School class of 1987.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his daughter:  Anyssa Sanchez of Midland, TX; girlfriend:  Sylvia Martinez of Monahans, TX; brothers:  Julian O. Sanchez Jr. and wife Delma of Kermit, TX, George M. Sanchez of Kermit, TX, Roberto Sanchez and wife Faye of Pecos, TX, Jesse J. Sanchez and girlfriend Oralia Gonzales of Odessa, TX; sisters:  Linda S. Orona of Kermit, TX, Yolanda Sanchez of Jal, NM, and Ruby S. Gallardo and husband Jaime Sr. of Kermit, TX; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Benny was preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Viola Sanchez; niece:  Jennifer Sanchez; nephew:  Rudy Sanchez; and brother-in-law:  Ruben V. Orona.

Hudson Zeth Starnes

Hudson Zeth Starnes, age 1 year 11 months and 28 days, passed away from this life on Tuesday, March 19 at his home in Wink, TX.  Hudson was born on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 in Odessa, Texas to Ramiro Starnes and Megan Price.

Hudson started his life with many challenges.  His will to live encouraged and inspired all of those who were blessed to be part of his life.  Hudson's infectious smile will be missed by those that love him.

Juanita J Hammond 2019

Juanita Joyce Hammond

Juanita Joyce Hammond, age 87, passed away at her home on Monday, March 18, 2019 in Kermit.  Juanita was born on October 21, 1931 to Jesse and Opal (Miller) Melton in Gainesville, Texas. Juanita married James “Jim” Lee Hammond in Gainesville, TX on October 21, 1950 and they shared 65 years together before his passing in 2015.

Juanita enjoyed going to church when she could.  She also enjoyed cooking and sewing. Juanita was a very special lady and will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.

Juanita is survived by her son:  Steven Lee Hammond and his wife Susan of Kermit, TX; daughter: Kathy Hall and husband Donald of Lake Jackson, TX; grandchildren: Amy Barth, Scott Hall, Morgan Hall, Amanda Carey, Christina Moore; and great-grandchildren: Joseph Hammond, Hannah Hammond, Joshua Carey, Harley Underwood and Wesley Barth. 

Juanita was preceded in death by her husband: James “Jim” Lee Hammond; parents: Jesse and Opal Milton; and a sister: Hazel Hailey.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, March 21, 2019 at the Family Service Funeral Chapel with Brother Roy Christopher officiating. Interment will follow in the Kermit Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Kevin Hoff, Dan Irvin, Floyd Underwood and Don Hall.

Francisca Gomez De Sanchez

Francisca Gomez De Sanchez, age 82, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2019 in Kermit. Francisca was born on February 9, 1937 to Jose and Delores (Armendariz) Gomez. Francisca married Arturo Sanchez on November 15, 2003 in Phoenix, Arizona and they celebrated 15 years together.

Francisca enjoyed dancing and listening to music. Francisca was known as “Panchita” by her family and friends and “Curacolita” by her son-in-law.  She loved to travel and was also a great cook. She made the best tortillas and tamales. Francisca was a member of the Catholic Church.

Francisca is survived by her husband: Arturo Sanchez of Presidio, TX;  sons: Hector Gomez Muniz and wife Natividad Fierro Muniz of Ojinaga, MX, Alfonso Gomez of Kermit, TX, Candelario Gomez and wife Maria of Presidio, TX, and Juventino Gomez and wife Leticia of Kermit, TX;  daughter: Zoila Lepe and husband Jose of Kermit, TX; sister: Agripina Gomez of Ojinaga, MX; grandchildren: Jose, Hector Jr., Rodolfo, Dolorez, Karime, Yutzia, Beatrice, Melissa, Jessica, and Daniel; great-grandchildren: Jacquelin, Daniel Jr., Yaretzy, and Ismalel.

Francisca was preceded in death by her parents: Jose and Delores (Armendariz) Gomez.

A Rosary will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at 7:00 pm at Family Services Funeral Chapel.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, April 4, 2019 at the St. Joseph/St. Thomas Catholic Church in Kermit with Father Gleen Carpe officiating. Burial will follow at Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jose Lepe, Daniel Muniz, Candelario Muniz, Alfonso Muniz, Daniel Muniz Jr., and Hector Muniz.
