Frank Frame 2018
Charlie Frank Baxter Frame

Charlie Frank Baxter Frame, age 91, of Jal, NM passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, in Jal. He was born on January 14, 1927, in Barstow, TX to William and Vada (Baxter) Frame.

"Frank" as he was known by his family and friends, was a veteran of the US Navy. On November 9, 1954 he married the love of his life, Evelyn Frame, and they spent 52 wonderful years together until her passing in 2006. He was a hardworking man and worked for El Paso Natural Gas for more than 30 years.  He loved to fish and hunt anytime he could. Frank was a family man and loved his children and grandchildren dearly. He was very loved by all who knew him and will be missed dearly.   

He is survived by his son: Richard Goodner and wife Rita of Colleyville, TX; daughters: Anita Snider and husband Douglas of Palestine, TX, and Mary Goodner and partner Steve of Lubbock, TX; eight grandchildren: Sean, Scott, Crystal, Jenny, Bradley, Nicole, Eric, and Jordan; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife: Evelyn Frame; sons: Allen Frame and David Frame; parents: William and Vada Frame; brother: Jim Frame; and sister: Mary Adams.

A Funeral service will be celebrated at 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Family Services Funeral Chapel, with Frankie Frame officiating. Burial follows at the Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers will include: Ricardo Franco, Michael O'Rear, Cesar Angel, Richard Hebnderson, Robert Salinas, and Nathan Valez. Honorary Pallbearers will include: Jack Hill, Jack Shreffler, Dillard Miller, and Danny Mayberry.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank's name can be made to the Carolyn Awbrey Fund.  Donations are accepted by the Jal Record office. Or you may donate to any church of your choice.

Marion Riley Loper Jr.  "Slim" 

"Slim" M.R. Loper Jr., age 93, of Kermit, TX passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2018, in Monahans, TX. He was born November 8, 1924, in Ranger, TX to Marion Sr. and Lillian Ada (Franklin) Loper.  He was a member of 1st Baptist Church.

"Slim" as he was known by his family and friends, was a veteran of the US Army. On February 12, 1955 he married the love of his life Mary Loper and they spent 63 wonderful years together. He loved to travel, Slim had been to 49 of the 50 states only one he missed was Alaska. He was a family man and loved his wife, daughter and grandchildren dearly. He was very loved by all who knew him and will be missed dearly.   

He is survived by his wife: Mary Loper of Kermit, TX; daughter: Paula Kuhs and husband Chris of Battle Ground, WA; brother: Wayne Loper of Midland, TX; sisters: Imogene Harper of Austin, TX, Gaynell Tull of Wichita Falls, TX, Yvette Overstreet and husband Milo of Elephant Butte, NM, and Dawn Williams; grandchildren: Jeffrey Kuhs of Aiea, HI, and Christina Lee of Washougal, WA; and three great-grandchildren: Cadence, Cody, and Carter.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Marion Sr. and Lillian Ada Loper; two brothers: A.C. "Buddy" Loper, and Gene Loper: and two sisters: Wynema Rogers, and Alene Bailey.

A Graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, October 26, 2018 at the Kermit Cemetery, with Brother Dudley Mullins officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will include: Stan Mulsow, Jim Davis, and Bob Scott.

Manuel E Arzate Jr.
Manuel Espino Arzate Jr.

Manuel E. Arzate Jr., age 77, of Jal, NM passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at his home in Jal.  He was born August 25, 1941, in Porvenir D.B. Chihuahua, Mexico to Manuel and Julia (Espino) Arzate. He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church.

Manuel was a very hardworking man.  He retired from the City of Jal after 23 years of service.  Manuel spent 15 years as a member of the Jal Volunteer Fire Department.  He was a very giving man.  He loved nature and enjoyed growing flowers.  Manuel was known for his big smile and his bigger heart.  He enjoyed helping others and chose to love them instead of fight with them.  He loved life and made his mark on those he called friends.

He is survived by his wife: Raymunda Arzate of Jal, NM; daughters:  Julia E. Watson and husband Aubrey Gene of Jal, NM, Claudia Arzate of Denison, TX, Deina I. Arzate (Inglet) of Jal, NM, Brenda I Arzate of Denison, TX, and Alejandra Nieto Canaval and husband Jose Luis of Jal, NM; sisters: Bertha Juarez and husband Merced of Jal, NM, Otelia Rivero and husband Monce of El Paso, TX, Cecilia Arzate of Jal, NM, Guadalupe Hernandez and husband Mario of Ft. Hancock, TX, Silvia Arzate of El Porvenir, MX; grandchildren:  Gregory J. Watson, Kassandra Y Inglet, Madison R Inglet, and Ricardo M Arzate; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Manuel Sr. and Julia Arzate; three brothers: Juan Arzate, Jose Jesus Arzate, and Lupito Arzate; and sister:  Felecitia Munoz.

A Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm MST, Thursday, November 1, 2018 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Jal.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:00 pm MST, Friday, November 2, 2018 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Jal, with Father George Vargas officiating.  Pallbearers will include: Raul Arzate, Luis Herrera, Ricardo Rodriguez, Victor Munoz, Daniel Baeza, Carlos Hernandez, Armando Contreras, and Alejandro Trejo.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the Jal Volunteer Fire Department.

Brenda R Dorman 2018

Brenda Renee Dorman

Brenda Renee Dorman, age 61, of Jal passed away on October 30, 2018.  She was born May 27, 1957 in Lyons, KS to Jimmy Dean Crowl Sr. and Claudette (Kizzar).  Brenda married Danny Dorman on November 29, 2000 in Jal, NM and the celebrated 17 year together.

Brenda was a 1975 graduate of Chase High School.  She was a loving mother and grandmother.  Brenda loved county music and had a passion for dancing.  She was devoted to her family, enjoyed traveling, was an excellent cook and was always visiting with her friends through social media.

Brenda is survived by her husband: Danny Dorman of Jal, NM; sons:  Ben H. Chance Jr. of Jal, NM, and Brit Dean Chance of Jal, NM; daughters:  Dalinda Dorman of Monahans, TX and Janessa Dorman of Eunice, NM; brother:  Jim Crowl Jr. and wife Teresa of Lyons, KS; sisters:  Monica Butts and husband Terry of Jal, NM and Bretta Thompson and husband Danny of Jal, NM, grandchildren:  Evand Dean Chance, Nicho las Martinez, Sienna Dorman, Kane Maruffo, and Adam Maruffo.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents:  Jimmy and Claudette.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm MST, Monday, November 5, 2018 at Calvary Baptist Church in Jal with brother Alan Speed officiating.  Interment will follow at the Jal Cemetery.  Pallbearers will include:  Terry Linn Butts, Trevor Thompson, Johnny Mac Owen, Nicholas Martinez, Luis Navarrette, and Randy Lopez.  Honorary Pallbearers will include:  Eugene Immel and Eric Rodriguez.

James Burns 2018

James Clifford Burns 

James Clifford Burns, age 83, passed away on November 2, 2018 at his home in Midland, TX.  He was born in Golden, OK on July 22, 1935 to James Arvil and Stella (Thrift) Burns.  James married Maurine (Vickrey) on February 28, 1958 in Kermit, TX and they celebrated 60 years together.

James was a longtime member of Belvue Baptist church in Kermit where he served as a deacon for many years.  He liked to hunt, fish, and travel the country in his motor home with his wife Maurine.  James graduated class of 1953 from Kermit High School and greatly enjoyed keeping in contact with his classmates by attending reunions.  Those that knew James would describe him as a very hard working man, with a very stubborn streak and a wicked sense of humor.  He loved his family very much and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  James was a big OU fan and a member of the Kermit Volunteer Fire Dept.

James is survived by his wife:  Maurine Burns of Midland, TX; sons:  Gene Burns and wife Reta of Odessa, TX, James Lee Burns and wife Sylvia of Kermit, TX; daughters: Vickie Burns Lance of Kermit, TX, Linda Burns McCombs and husband Dale of Midland, TX; son-in-law:  Joe Deaton of Kermit, TX; brother:  Ewell J. Burns and wife Pat of Madisonville, TX; grandchildren:  Monica Bowerman, J.W. Roberson, Brian Roberson, Shannon Armstrong, B.J. Vuicich, Lacy Jones, Andy Burns, Summer Burns, Dusty Funderburk, Sara Rich and Brody Burns; and numerous: nieces, nephews, and cousins.

James was preceded in death by his parents:  Arvil and Stella Burns; and daughter:  Carla Burns Deaton.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm, Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Belvue Baptist Church, officiated by Brother Bill Campbell.  Burial will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Pallbearers will include:  Danny Harris, J.C. Williams, Rick Crawford, Mitchell Sims, Chris Rushing and Tim Stansel.  Honorary Pallbearers will include:  Randon Bradford, Jackie Voyles, Malcolm Bryant, David Costello, "Pizza Man" Dr. Aaron Jasso, Paul Underwood, Mike Warren, Jerry Purcel, Dub King, Jim Ellison, and John Bell.

Joanna West 2018
Joanna Christ West

Joanna Christ West, age 93, of Midland passed away at her home on November 7, 2018.  She was born March 21, 1925 in Ganado, TX to C.W. and Sally (Beaty) Christ.  Joanna married Homer Lee West on December 9, 1943 in Victoria, TX and they celebrated 48 years together before his passing in 1992.

Joanna was a member of the First United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed bowling and line dancing.  Joanna was a past member of the Civil Air Patrol, active with the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and was very active with the Red Hat Society.

She is survived by her daughter:  Susan West Sims of Midland, TX; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Joanna was preceded in death by her husband:  Homer West; parents:  C.W. and Sally West; sons:  George Franklin West and Frederic Edgar West; three brothers; and three sisters.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 pm, Wednesday,  November 14, 2018 at Kermit Cemetery with Raymond Revilla officiating.  Honorary Pallbearers will include:  Marcus Magee, Macaleb Magee, Chris Rushing, James Hawkins, Andrew Sapp, Matthew Smith, James Sims, and Mitchell Sims.

Jimmy L Ballard 2018

Jimmy Lee Ballard

Jimmy Lee Ballard, age 67, of Kermit passed away on November 11, 2018.  He was born April 4, 1951 in Royse City, TX to Albert and Rosie Mae (McDaniel) Ballard.  Jimmy married Verda (Gardner) on June 12, 1970 in Eunice, NM and they celebrated 48 years together.

Jimmy was a member of Trinity Christian Church in Kermit.  He loved fishing, shooting targets and sports.  Jimmy coached Little League and Little Dribblers.  Often, Jimmy could be found outside taking care of his yard or cooking that BBQ he was known for.  Jimmy was a big fan of western and war movies.  Jimmy's chief love was his family.  He made sure they all knew how to drive a stick shift and took pride in fixing things, "no matter how long it took".

He is survived by his wife:  Verda Ballard of Kermit, TX; son:  Jimmy Lee Ballard Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter:  Jamarsha Roshelle Ballard of Wink, TX; brother:  Alfred Jr. Ballard of Tucson, AZ; sister:  Gloria Jean Higgins of Dallas, TX; three grandchildren:  Khalil Ballard, Jamal Ballard, and Zathan McIntosh; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents:  Albert and Rosie Ballard; and his sister:  Faye Brown.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Saturday,  November 17, 2018 Family Services Funeral Chapel with Rev. Steven Harper officiating.  Honorary Pallbearers will include:  Jimmy Jr. Ballard, Khalil Ballard, Jamal Ballard, Zathan McIntosh, A.J. Dwayne Ballard, A.J. Eva M Smith 2018
Eva Marie Smith

Eva Marie Smith, 89, passed away Friday, November 16, 2018 at her home in Kermit, TX. Eva was born February 2, 1923 in Elgin, OK, to James Thomas and Lennie Mae (Bobo) Priest. She married William L. Smith in Lovington, New Mexico on September 18, 2007 and they celebrated 5 years together before his death in 2013. She was a member of the Wink Church of Christ, enjoyed being around family and playing on the lake. Eva was a very social person who loved to dance the jitter bug.  She had a servant heart and was an excellent cook.

Funeral services will be held privately at a later date. Honorary Pallbearers will be Misty and Michael Bell, Mark and Sherri Terry, and Millie and Bill Macon.

Eva is survived by sister: Gladys Castoe of Buras, LA and great-niece:  Millie Macon and her husband Bill of Kingston, OK.

Eva was preceded on death by her husband: William L. “Bill” Smith; parents:  James and Lennie Priest; son: Stephen Wallace Fuller; sisters: Ann Cook, Loise Conyer, Joy Della Carmela Beard, and Lillian Faye Mathis; and one brother: Charles Priest.

Bob M Husky 2018

Lavern (Bob) Robert Husky long time resident of Kermit Texas died peacefully in Stamford Texas on November 27th at the age of 95.

Bob was born on August 4, 1923 in Lockney Texas and grew up there on the family farm. He attended school at Lockney and received an honorary diploma from Lockney at age 85 for his service in World War II. Bob and brother Arvin joined the Civil Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1938 and worked on projects in northern New Mexico.

Bob was drafted into the US Army Air Corps in February 1943 to help liberate Europe from German occupation during World War II. He was honorably discharged as an E-4 Senior Airman, (Buck Sergeant) in November of 1945. He served in the North Apennines and P0 Valley Campaigns of Italy in World War II as a part of a PBY rescue squadron attached to the 3706th AAFBU.

Bob married his wife “Tillie” formerly Willie Nelle Tilly from Colorado City August 5, 1943 in Lawton Oklahoma at the age of 20. They were married for 54 years. Tillie passed away in 1997.

Bob and Tillie moved to Pecos after his discharge from the US Army Air Corps and he found employment at Community Public Service (CPS later called Texas New Mexico Power, now Public Service of NM) and worked with them for 42 years retiring as the Service Supervisor in 1986. Bob had the honor of bringing the first bucket truck into the Western Division of CPS in 1963 from Saint Louis, MO.  They had to do it the hard way when he started out.

Bob and Tillie moved to Kermit in 1947. There they raised Bobby and Jackye. They worshiped there with the Eastside Church of Christ. Bob was a long time member and president of the Lions Club. He also served on the Kermit Volunteer Fire Department for 43 years.

Bob is survived by his son: Bobby Husky and wife Beverly of Bellville; his daughter: Jackye Leonard and husband Eddie of Rule; sister: Frankie Sue Hartman of Lubbock; sister-in-law:  Dorothy Husky of Amarillo; grandsons: Brent Husky, Bryan Husky and wife Jackie, Bart Husky and wife Shelayna, John Leonard and Paul Leonard and wife Kerri; great- grandchildren: Byrkley, Garrett, Codi, River, Scout, Remington, Daphni, Jami and Luke; and great-great granddaughter: Taysom Husky. 

Bob is preceded in death by his wife Willie Nelle (Tillie), mother Lucy Gentry, Father James Husky, brothers Arvin Husky and Aubrey Crisp, and sister Pauline Husky.

A family visitation is scheduled for 6 pm - 7 pm, Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Family Services Funeral Chapel.

The funeral is scheduled for Thursday, November 29th at 2:00 pm at the Family Services Funeral Parlor Chapel in Kermit at 911 Tommy Thompson Boulevard. Interment will be at the Kermit Cemetery on West HWY 302 following the funeral service.  Services will be officiated by Brother Joe Carrasco.  Pallbearers will include:  Brent Husky, Bryan Husky, Bart Husky, John Leonard, Paul Leonard, and Luke Leonard.  Honorary Pallbearers will include:  Jerald Hudson and Dub King.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Bob’s name to the Kermit Volunteer Fire Department by sending a check etc. to the KVFD at  PO Box 262, Kermit, TX 79745.

Jose Antonio TJ Gozalez 2018

Jose “T.J.”  Antonio Gonzalez Jr.

Jose Antonio Gonzalez Jr., age 33, passed away on Thursday November 29, 2018 in Wink, TX. He was born in Perryton, TX on January 16, 1985 to Jose Antonio Gonzalez Sr. and Darla Christine (Kershman).

Jose was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wink, TX.  Jose also enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing and watching football. He loved being outside spending time with family and friends. Everyone called him “T.J."

T.J. is survived by his parents: father, Jose Antonio Gonzalez Sr. and his wife Naomi and his mother, Darla Baldwin and her husband Mitchell; sons: Kameron Jordan, Eric Whitehorn, and Gavin Gonzalez; daughter: Kaliegh Jordan; brother: Trey Gonzalez and Troy Gonzalez; sister: Maranda Gonzalez; and a grandchild: Nyla Jordan; and grandparents:  James and Willie Hooks.

T.J. was preceded in death by a step daughter: Karissa Jordan.

A visitation will be Monday December 3, 2018 from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.

A Funeral service will be held on Tuesday December 4, 2018 at 11:00 am with Brother Chris Ewell officiating at the Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit, TX. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Ray Aaron, Robby Slaughter, Buddy Broom, Kameron Jordan, and Tony Gonzalez Sr.

Isaac Eligah Friday

Isaac Eligah Friday, age 78, passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2018.  He was born December 12, 1939 in Houston County, Alabama to Isaac Jr. and Leafy (Davis) Friday.    Isaac was married to Brenda Joyce (Blake) Friday and they celebrated 37 years together before she preceded him in death in 2009.

Isaac was a member of the First Assembly of God in Big Lake, TX.   He enjoyed sewing, playing cards and cooking.  Isaac was very active with the Winkler County Senior Citizens and was instrumental in the pyramid of pennies project they are currently working on.  Isaac was in the US Army, serving 28 years split between active service and with the Texas Army National Guard.  He started his military career in the artillery division and later moved into the motor pool.  His skills as a mechanic later translated into a career with DD Poynor in Big Lake, Texas where he was a mechanic for many years.  Isaac's chief love was for his family.  He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

Isaac is survived by his daughter: Gayla Brown and husband James of Kermit, TX; brother:  William Perry Friday of Cairo, GA; sisters:  Henrietta F Shelly of Gordon, AL, Lena Bell F. Kirkland of Whigham, GA, and Irene F. Morris Conrad and husband Charles of Ashford, AL; and granddaughter:  Elizabeth Grace Brown.

A Funeral Service will be held 9:00 am, Friday, December 7, 2018 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit officiated by Lloyd Blake.  Burial will follow at 2:00 pm, at the Glen Rest Cemetery in Big Lake, TX.  Pallbearers will include: Lloyd Blake, James Brown, Mark Meroney, and Rhonnie Lester.  Honorary Pallbearers will include: Frank Hill, William Perry Friday, Larry Blake Sr. Velton Blake and Buddy Blake.
