Levi Cole Bishop

Levi Cole Bishop, age 1 day, of Wink, TX, passed away shortly after his birth on Friday, September 1 , 2017 in Kermit, TX. He was born to Michael Bishop and Shana Porter.

He is survived by his parents: Michael Bishop and Shana Porter of Wink;  grandparents:  Mark and Rita Steele of Odessa, TX, and John and Pam White of Wink, TX;  brother:  Arian Porter of Wink, TX; and sister:  Pearl Rogers of Clovis, NM.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.

Modesto Diaz Jr

Modesto Pena Diaz Jr.

Modesto Diaz Jr., age 75, of Kermit, TX, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Monday, September 4, 2017.  He was born October 31, 1941 in San Antonio, TX to Modesto Sr. and Sara (Pena) Diaz. Modesto married Dora (Tovar) Diaz on November 4, 1962 and they celebrated 54 wonderful years together.

“Big Moe”, as he was known by his friends and family, loved the Lord and always enjoyed reading his Bible. He was a preacher for the Pentecostal Church for many years. Big Moe was a great father and a spiritual father to many around him. He loved to read, do carpentry work, and travel whenever he could. He was a hardworking man and always provided for his family. His grandchildren meant the world to him. He was known to them as “Grandpa Moe” and “Grandpa Dad”. The things he enjoyed the most were sweets, spending time with all his family, and attending church. Big Moe was a good man and will be missed by many.    

He is survived by his wife: Dora Elia Diaz of Kermit, TX; son: Modesto Diaz III and fiancÚ Teresa Lutrell of San Antonio, TX; five daughters: Minerva Saenz and partner Robbie Shelton of Kermit, TX, Dora Elia Quintero and husband Mark of Spokane, WA, Sandra Wilson and husband Charlie (JoJo) of Kermit, TX, Gloria Saenz of Kermit, TX, and Elizabeth Moreno and husband Israel of Kermit, TX; two brothers: Louis P. Diaz and wife Pamela of San Antonio, TX and Edward Diaz of San Antonio, TX; eight sisters: Martha Moreno and husband Jessie of San Antonio, TX, Victoria Saenz and husband Frank of San Antonio, TX, Margaret Dixon and husband Loyd of San Antonio, TX, Odilia Weber and husband Richard of San Antonio, TX, Sara Perez and husband Rafael of San Antonio, TX, Bertha Rendon and husband Hector of San Antonio, TX, Mary Miranda and husband Raul of San Antonio, TX, and Mimi Diaz of Austin, TX; nineteen grandchildren: Ceasar, April, Nick, Eron, Abram, Avrie, Matthew, Matthan, Desiree, Ace, Randy, Niko, Cocoa, Danyl, Vivian, Diego, Cassie, Yulivet, and Isalem.; and twenty one great-grandchildren: Sophia, Nathaniel, Rudy, Braylon, Alexis, Kaiden, Kaisen, Rachelle, Caleb, Nayellie, Nyla, Alyna, Sophia, Zach, Zadie, Mia, Venelope, Kacey, Chloe, Yazilyn, and Axl.

He is preceded in death by his son: Hector Diaz; parents: Modesto and Sara Diaz; and brother: Roger P. Diaz.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 am, Friday, September 8, 2017 at Iglesia Apostolica Del La Fe En Cristo Jesus in Kermit, TX, with Pastor Roberto Moreno officiating. Burial will follow at the Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers will include: Ceasar Diaz, Eron Saenz, Ace Garza, Randy Garza, Abram Saenz, Danyl Diaz, Nicholas Diaz, Diego Saenz, and Isalem Moreno.

Rita Wilhelm 2017

Rita Rue (Pirtle) Wilhelm

December 17, 1931 – September 5, 1017

Rita Rue (Pirtle) Wilhelm, 85, was called to the Lord on September 5, 2017 at Schleicher County Nursing Home in Eldorado, Texas.

Rita was born on December 17, 1931, the youngest child to James and Ethel Pirtle of Sabinal, Texas where she spent her childhood years.  Rita graduated from Knippa High School and was Salutatorian of her class.  She went on to attend Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde and North Texas University in Denton.  In 1951, she married Earnest Wilhelm (the love of her life) in Lovington, New Mexico and they had five children.  Rita and Earnest spent most of their married years in Wink, Texas and later retired in Greenwood, Texas.  Rita and her husband also lived in Bolivia, Ecuador, and Singapore while her husband worked the international oilfields.    In 2004, they moved to San Angelo and lived at Rio Concho Manor Retirement Community. 

Rita is survived by two daughters: Rebecca Covington and husband Jim of Sonora Texas, Susan Bland and husband Benny of Greenwood, Texas; and two sons: Earnest Wilhelm, Jr. and wife Charla of Thibodaux, Louisiana, and Terry Wilhelm and wife Glenda of Joshua Texas.  She is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Loved ones that preceded her in death are her husband Earnest Wilhelm, son Stephen Wilhelm, great granddaughter Kylie Donaldson, father and mother James and Ethel Pirtle, brother Jimmy Pirtle, brother Donald Pirtle, sister Vera Carpenter, and sister Opal Storms.

Rita's grandchildren were her heart and joy and she took great pride in being called "Nana".  Time spent at Nana’s house was very special for them.  She was a very kind and gentle soul, with a loving and generous heart, and was always giving to others.  A woman of faith and the heart of the Wilhelm family; she shaped the family spirituality by her tireless Christian example.

Rita was an avid reader, a whiz at working crossword puzzles and loved playing cards or any other board games with her friends and family.  She was highly intelligent, competitive and delighted in winning.  While she lived in San Angelo, she volunteered at the San Angelo Fine Arts Museum and loved being involved in the arts.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Schleicher County Nursing Home and Hospice of San Angelo staff where they took excellent care of her.

A family memorial service will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Kermit Cemetery. 

Francisco Valdez 2017

Francisco "Pancho" Hernandez Valdez.  

Francisco Valdez, age 72, of Kermit, TX, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 23, 2017.  He was born December 10, 1944 in Cuesta San Antonio, Manuel Benavides Chihuahua, Mexico to Isidoro and Petra (Hernandez) Valdez.  Francisco married Hortencia (Marquez) Valdez on August 16, 1969 and they celebrated 48 wonderful years together.

“Pancho”, as he was known by his friends and family, was a cowboy.  He enjoyed ranching and raising horses.  He loved being outdoors, was always busy, and he couldn't sit still.  Pancho had a great sense of humor and was always pulling pranks.  Often, he could be found singing and dancing.  Family was truly important to Francisco he was a good husband, father and grandfather.  He will be greatly missed by his family.

He is survived by his wife: Hortencia Valdez of Kermit, TX; 5 sons:  Manuel Valdez of Mexico, Raul Valdez of Kermit, Jaime Valdez and wife Roxana of Kermit, Uber Valdez and wife Dilma of Kermit, and Geovanni Valdez and wife Liliana of Kermit; 4 daughters:  Corina Varela and husband Esteban of Las Cruces, NM, Deida Valdez of Kermit, Catalina Valdez of Kermit, and Silvia Valdez and husband Roque of Kermit; 5 brothers:  Ilifonso Valdes of Presidio, TX, Isidoro Valdez of Odessa, TX, Jose Humberto Valdez of Presidio, TX, Regino Valdez of Presidio, TX, and Simon Valdez of Odessa, TX; sister:  Florentina Leyva of Satanta, KS; 33 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Isidoro and Petra Valdez; 2 sons:  Javier Valdez and Auden Valdez; and sister:  Gloria Caballero.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 am, Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Templo Adonai 829 Magnolia in Kermit, with Pastor Eduardo Carrasco officiating. Burial will follow at the Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers will include: Cesar Ramos, Francisco Ramos, David Garcia, Jaime Valdez, Cristian Valdez, and Uriel Valdez.

Rosenda Garcia
Rosenda Garcia

Rosenda Garcia, age 77, of Wink, TX, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2017.  She was born March 1, 1940 in Pinos Zacatecas, Mexico to Domingo and Soledad (Buendia) Araujo. Rosenda married Santos Garcia Sr. on December 24, 1958 and they celebrated 37 wonderful years together, before his passing in November of 1996.

Rosenda was a member of the Catholic Church, and loved the lord. She was the most loving and selfless person her family and friends knew. Rosenda was always one to lend a helping hand. She has taken care of her two sisters for many years. Rosenda never turned anyone away. Working in the yard was one of her greatest pleasures. She was a woman who believed in hard work. Rosenda was a long time member of the Wink community and loved to support the Wink Wildcats. She was a loving mother and adored her grandchildren. Rosenda was loved and will be missed by many. 

She is survived by her three sons: Santos Garcia Jr. and wife Araceli of Kermit, TX, Jimmy Garcia and wife Corinna of Wink, TX, and Martin Garcia and wife Stacey of Wink, TX; one daughter: Mary Lou Garcia of El Paso, TX; three brothers: Angel Araujo and wife Emma of Lockney, TX, Isabel Araujo and wife Adella of Silverton, TX, and Fidel Araujo and wife Amellia of Lockney, TX; three sisters: Maria Hernandez and husband Juan of Midland, TX, Jesus Araujo of El Mezquite Zacatecas, Mexico, and Vallenta Araujo of El Mezquite Zacatecas, Mexico; sister-in-law: Elena Garcia of Wink, TX; seven grandchildren: Walter Chavez, Melissa Winborn and husband Kendall, Jessica Harrison and husband Jacob, Gaby Garcia, Jennifer Fryar and husband Dee, Allison Morvan and husband Joseph, and Jacob Garcia; three great grandchildren: Jarron, Brooks and Cooper; and the family pet: Tiger.

She is preceded in death by her husband: Santos Sanchez Garcia Sr.; parents: Domingo and Soledad Araujo; three brothers and one sister.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Friday, September 29, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit, TX, with Father Mark Salas officiating. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Pallbearers will include: Walter Chavez, David Richardson, Randy Thomas, Jacob Harrison, Johnnie Garcia, and Enrique Sanchez. Honorary Pallbearers will include: Joe Mohler, Mike Everett, Joseph Morvan, Dee Fryar, Jacob Garcia, Kendall Winborn, and Tiger.

Greg Moya 2017

Luis "Greg" Gregorio Moya Jr.

Greg Moya, age 62, of Eunice, NM, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 30, 2017.  He was born September 11, 1955 in Willard, NM to Gregorio and Maria Virginia (Garcia) Moya.  Greg married Nora Hernandez  on April 18, 1980  and they celebrated 30 wonderful years together before her death in 2010.

“Greg”, as he was known by his friends and family, was a hard working man.  He had a passion for fixing and restoring vehicles.  Greg was especially proud of his '65 Ford pickup.  Often Greg could be found visiting the mountains, traveling, fishing, camping, and dancing.  Greg could also be found enjoying naps on the couch after satisfying his sweet tooth.  He was also an active member of the American Legion.

He is survived by three sons:  Christopher Moya of Eunice, NM, Aaron Mallow of Alamogordo, NM, and Trey Moya and wife Marisa of Odessa, TX; six brothers:  Joe Moya and wife Imelda of Monahans, TX, Modesto Moya and wife Norma of Monahans, TX, Frankie Moya and wife Mini of Kermit, TX, Pat Moya and wife Kim of Corpus Cristi, TX, Gene Moya Sr. and wife Yolanda of Pampa, TX, and Jesse Moya of Wink, TX, sister:  Mary Ann Lopez of Wink, TX; ten grandchildren:  Rubie Carrasco, Emily Price, Aylin Moya, Damian Mallow, Jordan Mallow, Aaron Mallow Jr., Julie Anna Moya, Ezekiel Moya, Micah Moya, and Christopher Moya; and two great-grandchildren:  Elijah Carrasco and Adrian Carrasco.

He is preceded in death by his wife:  Nora Moya; parents: Gregorio and Maria Virginia Moya;  son:  Brian Luis Moya; brother:  Jerry Moya Sr. and three sisters:  Millie Sutton, Berna Briones and Mona Moya.

A Rosary will be held 7:00 pm, Monday, October 2, 2017 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit.  Funeral Mass will be held 1:00 pm, Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit, TX, with Father Mark Salas officiating. Burial will follow at the Monahans Cemetery. Pallbearers will include: Joe Moya, Modesto Moya, Frankie Moya, Pat Moya, Gene Moya Sr., Jesse Moya , and Carlos Lopez Jr.. Osvaldo Sanchez-Hernandez

Osvaldo Sanchez-Hernandez, age 20, of Jal, NM., passed away Monday, October 9, 2017 in a auto accident north of Kermit, TX. He was born February 17, 1997 in Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico to Manuel and Estela (Hernandez) Sanchez.

Osvaldo enjoyed life to the fullest. He enjoyed playing a game of basketball with his friends or getting together to play video games.  Often he could be found spending time with his girlfriend.  He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes.  Osvaldo frequently took the time to wash the cars of his friends and family, to make sure everyone was looking good.  He will be missed greatly by those that loved him.

He is survived by his girlfriend:  Karla Flores of Jal, NM; one child on the way; parents:  Manuel and Estela Sanchez of Jal, NM; brothers:  Victor  Sanchez of Jal, NM., and Daniel Sanchez of Jal, NM; grandparents:  Rosa Maria De La Hoya, Olgan Contrerras, and Atanacio Hernandez, all of Jal, NM.
