Maria Reina Padilla
Maria “Reina” Luisa Padilla   

Maria Luisa Padilla, age 85, of Kermit, TX., passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017 in Odessa, TX. She was born March 8, 1931 in Ojinaga, Mexico to Lorenzo Arevalo and Socorro (Rios) Arevalo.

Maria, known to her friends and family as “Reina,” was a strong and hard worker. She loved playing games, especially Bingo. Reina was a very driven woman, and loved her family very much. She was a loving and caring mother and a fantastic cook. Reina loved her grandchildren very much and was the best babysitter the children could ever have. 

She is survived by her two sons: Jorge Padilla and wife Elizabeth of Odessa, TX and Agustine Padilla Jr. and wife Laura of Ojinaga, Mexico; four daughters: Martha Aguilar and husband Tom of Odessa, TX, Socorro Padilla of Kermit, TX, Maria Quiroz and husband Vaudilio of Kermit, TX and Rebecca Padilla of Midland, TX; two brothers: Jose Arevalo and wife Fransica of Midland, TX and Reinaldo Arevalo and wife Socorro of Odessa, TX; two sisters: Teresa Calderon and husband Hector of Lubbock TX; and Lucmila Sotelo of Pecos, TX; eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her husband: Augstine Padilla; parents: Lorenzo and Socorro Arevalo; and eight brothers and sisters.

A Funeral service will be held at a later date at El Mulato Cemetery in Mexico.

Becky Burrows
Becky L. Burrows

Becky L. Burrows, age 64, of Kermit, TX, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2017 in Kermit, TX.  She was born August 28, 1952 in Carlsbad, NM to  Lawrence and Belva Jean (Chauncy) Burrows.

Becky was a woman with personality.  Some days she would unleash this personality and could be found "bossing" her brothers around.   She loved to fish, cook for her family, and read.  She was always doing some kind of craft and shared this hobby with her nieces.  She will be greatly missed by her family and the hole her death leaves in their lives will never be filled.

She is survived by her brothers: Rick Burrows and wife Sherlene of Mentone, TX, and Val Jo Burrows and wife Jan of Gold beach, OR; nephews:  Dustin, Levi, and Larry; nieces:  Angie and Stephanie; great nephews and nieces:  Zoey, James, Shaun, Michael, Jillsie, Gage and her best friend Sadie K.; and lifelong family friend: Benny.

She is preceded in death by her parents:  Lawrence and Belva Jean Burrows.

A private memorial will be held by the family at a later date.

Vernon Wood Jr

Vernon Omega Wood, Jr.

Vernon O. Wood, Jr. was a strong fighter but lost his battle on February 23, 2017 at the age of 87. He was born August 29, 1929 in Lefors, TX to Vernon and Zelma Wood. He was raised in Kermit and graduated from Kermit High School in 1948.

After graduation Vernon joined the United States Navy where he served on a carrier ship during the Korean War until Feb. 1956. While stationed in Georgia he met the love of his life, Barbara, and they were married on September 19, 1954. After leaving the service the couple moved back to Kermit where Vernon went to work for El Paso Natural Gas in the instrument department for thirty-one years and retired in 1987. The couple had five daughters Sherry, Diane, Phyllis, Sheila and Marty.

After retirement Vernon worked for the Winkler County Probation Dept. as a Community Service Supervisor and worked for the Winkler County Law Enforcement Center as a Detention Officer. Wood served on the Kermit School Board for many years. Vernon loved life. He was involved in everything. He helped start the Kermit Boys Club in the 1960's and started a boxing club for boys. Many of the boys participated in the Golden Gloves. He also coached pony league baseball. His passion was refereeing football which he did until his grandsons started playing football and he chose to quit and follow them. He was very involved in 4-H. He was avid Wink Wildcat fan and never missed a sporting event of any kind. Vernon loved fishing, golf, playing dominoes, scratching bingo lottery tickets and gaming of any kind. What Vernon loved most was his family. He loved getting together with all his girls, their husbands, his grandkids and great-grandkids and eating and playing games. He could not wait until holidays.

Wood was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years. Barbara, and his parents Vernon and Zelma.

He is survived by his daughters: Sharon Joyce Sellers of Grapevine, Theresa Diane Long and husband Roy, Phyllis Ann Thomas and husband Randy, Sheila Gale Martin and finance' Mike Claburn, and Martha Lynn Richardson and husband Gayland all of Wink. He is also survived by his brother, Sam Wood and wife Carolyn of Midland and his sister Evelyn O'Neal also of Midland. He has twelve grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services and a celebration of Vernon's 87 years of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, Feb. 27, 2017 at Belvue Baptist Church in Kermit. The Rev. Joe Mohler will officiate. Burial with military honors will be at Kermit Cemetery following the service. Pallbearers are his grandsons Jamie Harding, John Wingrove, Tyler Richardson, Riley Richardson, Saige Harding, Joshua Zenger and Robbie Sellers. Honorary pallbearers are his son-in-laws Roy Long, Randy Thomas, Gayland Richardson, Mike Claburn, and Wesley Jamison, Joe Stahlmann, Manuel Cuellar and Jessie Jones.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to The American Cancer Society or Compass Hospice in Midland.

Ramon Tunga Valenzuela
Ramon Torrez “Tunga” Valenzuela

Ramon Valenzuela, age 68, of Kermit, TX., passed away  surrounded by his family on Wednesday, February 22, 2017.  He was born January 10, 1949 in Grandfalls, TX. to Ramon and Eliza (Torrez) Valenzuela.

"Tunga" or “Later” as he was called by his friends and family, loved to ride his bike. He probably put more miles on his bike than a person would put on their car. Tunga was a great story teller and loved to play dominos and cards with his friends and family. He was very smart and very involved with the Special Olympics. He competed in track, basketball, and bowling. Tunga was loved by many and will be missed by all who loved him.   

He is survived by his mother: Eliza Valenzuela of Kermit, TX.; two brothers: Manuel Valenzuela Sr. and wife Yolanda of Wink, TX.; and Ismael Valenzuela and wife Noelia of Midland, TX.; sister: Lidia Navarrette and husband Manuel of Wink, TX.; uncle: Frank Valenzuela and wife Mary of Kermit, TX.; three nieces; four nephews; and fourteen great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father: Ramon Valenzuela Sr.; and both his maternal and paternal grandparents.

A Rosary will be held starting at 7:00 pm, Friday, February 24, 2017 at Family Services Funeral Chapel.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 25, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit, TX, with Father Mark Salas officiating. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Pallbearers will include: James Funderburg, Cory Funderburg, Milo Valenzuela, Manuel Valenzuela Jr., Fernando Valenzuela, Jorge Valdes, Ismael Valenzuela, and Manuel Valenzuela Sr.. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jerry Salazar, Stanley Mulsow, James Swanson, Rene Polanco, Oscar Juarez Jr., Manuel Navarrette, and Chace Funderburg.

Josefina B Aguirre 2017
Josefina Berzoza Aguirre
Josefina Aguirre passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2017, at age 85. Josefina was born Thursday, April 22, 1931, in Berino, NM, to Anastacio and Manuela (Bustillos) Berzoza. Josefina married the love of her life, Wenceslao Aguirre, on February 10, 1951 and they spent 65 wonderful years together until his death in November 2016.

Josefina, known to her friends and family, as "Fina" was a devoted Jehovah's Witness. She loved to visit with her church sisters. "Fina" was a big fan of the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed watching Westerns on TV. She enjoyed collecting jewelry and high heels. Often, she could be found gathering the family together for a meal. She was an excellent cook, but had a weakness for pizza. Josefina loved her family and was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by two daughters: Amparo Carrasco of Kermit, TX, and Estella Paz and Husband Fred of Odessa, TX; three sons: Alfredo Aguirre of Kermit, TX; Daniel Aguirre and wife Janet of Kermit, TX, and Samuel Aguirre of Midland, TX; brother: Tony Versoza and wife Marie of El Paso, TX; sister: Linda Ortiz and husband David of Big Lake, TX; eleven grandchildren: Jeremy Carrasco, Joel Carrasco, Daniel Aguirre Jr., Erica Valenzuela, Priscilla Contreras, Eliana Gonzales, Yvonne Hernandez, Veronica Paz, Tiffany Abila, Heather Carrasco and Kristin Aguirre; and twenty five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Wenceslao Aguirre; parents: Anastacio and Manuela Berzoza; and several brothers and sisters.

Memorial services will be at 6 pm, Sunday, February 26, 2017 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Kermit, Texas. Service will be officiated by Ralph Hernandez.

Cecil Al Robinson

Cecil Alfred "Al" Robinson Jr.

Al Robinson, age 76, of El Paso, TX., passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2017.  He was born December 17, 1940 in Kermit, TX to Dr. Cecil and Dr. Lila Rose Robinson.

Al loved to sing.  He was a member of the University Presbyterian Church Choir in El Paso.  His involvement with the community of El Paso also included membership in the Lions Club and the American Legion Post 58 .  Al loved meeting new people. He used his hobby as a ham radio operator to reach out and make new friends all over the world.

He is survived by his wife, Sigrid Robinson of El Paso, and numerous cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents:   Dr. Cecil and Dr. Lila Rose Robinson.

Graveside Services will be held 2:00 pm, Friday,  March 10, 2017 at the Kermit Cemetery in Kermit, TX officiated by Brother Ed Simmons.  Honorary Pallbearers will be: Max May, Mark May, Dr. John Nelson, and Dr. Juan Perez.

Humberto Miranda
Humberto Sotelo Miranda

Humberto Sotelo Miranda, age 26, of  Kermit, TX, passed away Monday, March 6, 2017.  He was born July 15, 1990 in Bakersfield, CA to Humberto Nuņez and Patricia Caro.

"Guerito," as he was known to his family and friends, loved to raise animals, listen to music and work with his hands.  He was happy being outside working on a truck, driving a dump truck, or fixing up the yard.

He is survived by his father: Humberto Nuņez of Chihuahua, MX; mother:  Patricia Caro of Saucillo, MX, one brother:  Carlos Nuņez of Chihuahua, MX, one sister:  Brenda Nuņez of Saucillo, MX; and numerous extended family members.

Funeral Services will be held at a later date in Mexico.

Charles Haney
Charles "Chuck" Haney

Charles "Chuck" Haney, age 85, of Breckenridge, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2017.

Charles Edward Haney was born January 2, 1932 in Afton, Texas to Thomas Burnett Haney and Lula Mae Hicks Haney.  After graduation from Patton Springs High School, Charles enlisted in the Navy on September 26, 1950.  He served during the Korean War as a radio repairman.  He was given an honorable discharge July 14, 1954.

On June 18, 1955 he married the Love of his life, Faye Charlene Rainbolt in Clovis, New Mexico.  Charles worked as a salesman at S.H. Leggett and United Sales as well as Cawthorn Oil until his retirement in August of 1996.

He was known as "Chuck" by his friends and relatives and "Pop" by his kids and grandkids.  He loved to hunt and fish.  If he couldn't be found in the house, you could always find him on Hubbard Creek, fishing or working in the yard with Faye.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister-in-law, and one brother-in-law.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 61 years, Faye Haney; four children:  Ronald Haney and wife Ginger of Coppell, Mellissa Brannum of Carthage, Kevin Haney of Abilene, and Pat Plunkett and husband Donnie of Kermit; one sister:  Mary Helen Fleming of Garland; one sister-in-law:  Mae Pasquet of Prosper; three grandchildren:  Jason and wife Ashley, Angela, and Nichole and husband Beau; four great-grandchildren:  Erynn, Gracie, Emma, and Trey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial and Balloon release will be held at a later date.

Wesley Chaves
Wesley Eisele Chavez

Wesley Eisele Chavez, age 20, of Monahans, TX, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017.  He was born August 14, 1996 in Greeley, CO to Frank Chavez and Ann (Eisele) Chavez.

“Wes,” as he was called by his friends and family, loved to work on Honda Cars. He was an Oakland Raiders Fan, and loved spending time with his family. Wes was very passionate about his daughter and a fantastic father to her. He was a family man and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

He is survived by his wife: Regina Viera of Monahans, TX; daughter: Valentina Chavez of Monahans, TX; parents: Frank and Ann Chavez of Greeley, CO; grandparents:  Keith and Maryann Eisele of Greeley, CO; brothers: Harley Chavez and Gary Chavez of Greeley, CO;  and sisters: Tammy Chaves and Jackie Arispe and husband Victor of Greeley, CO.

He is preceded in death by his brother: Jayme Chavez.

Memorial Services will be held 10:00 am, Friday,  March 24, 2017 at the Greeley Baptist Temple Church, 1402 9th Street Greeley, CO 80631 officiated by Pastor Mike Betancourt.

Ernesto L Marrufo
Ernesto Losoya Marrufo    

Ernesto L. Marrufo, age 70, of Wink, TX, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, March 17, 2017.  He was born November 11, 1946 in Stanton, TX to Antonio and Elvira (Losolla) Marrufo.

"Neto," as he was called by his friends and family, was a hard working man.  He loved being outdoors, especially if he could watch drilling rigs.  Often, Neto could be found watching the birds, listening to music, or hiking.  He was an avid coffee drinker.  He was Catholic and a member of the Corpus Christi Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his brothers:    Albert Marrufo and wife Abigail of Wink, TX, Robert Marrufo and wife Rosenda of Wink, TX, and Paul Marrufo and wife Rosa of Corpus Christi, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents:  Antonio and Elvira Marrufo and his brother:  Manuel Marrufo.

A Rosary will be held starting at 7:00 pm, Monday, March 20, 2017 at Family Services Funeral Chapel.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 pm, Thursday, March 21, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit, TX, with Father Mark Salas officiating. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Pallbearers will include: Fabian Marrufo, Isaac Valdez, Chris Marrufo, Damian Valdez, Emillio Marrufo, Noah Marsh, and Jessie Shelton. Honorary Pallbearer will be Marty Losoya.
