Jodie Barker
Jodie Glynn Barker
Jodie Glynn Barker, age 75, of Kermit, passed from this life on Friday, March 11, 2016. He was born in Kermit, TX on August 17, 1940, to Jody Barker and Edith (Fisher) Barker.

Jodie proudly worked as a mechanic. He was self-employed and was known as someone who could fix just about anything. Jodie enjoyed many sports in his youth; such as baseball, weightlifting, gymnastics, and drag racing his 57 Chevy. If it had an engine, Jodie would see how fast it could run. Jodie also enjoyed fishing, golfing, arrowhead hunting, and loved having coffee and breakfast with his buddies every morning. Jodie attended Community church, had a big heart and loved helping others. Family was very special to Jodie and he delighted in arguing with his granddaughter about who loved who more.

He is survived by his daughter: Dreama Dean and husband Richard of Wolfforth, Texas; one grandchild: Tori Dean of Dallas, Texas; brother-in-laws: Bo Gunter and Ronnie Gunter; sister-in-law: Jackie Conyer and husband Robert; nephew: Robert Conyer, Jr; and niece: Judy Gunter.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Judy Gale (Gunter) Barker; parents: Jody and Edith Barker; and mother-in-law: Claudie Gentry.

Funeral Services will be 10am, Monday, March 14, 2016 at Family Services Funeral Chapel with Brother Eddie Whitefield officiating. Burial will follow at Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers will include: Bobby Arnold, Robert Conyer, Jeff Lajoie, Sammy Cates, and Gary Morse. Honorary Pallbearers will include: Bo Gunter, Ronnie Gunter, Robert Conyer, Jr., Jack Marshall, and Michael Wentzel.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Juvencio Martinez Lujan
Juvencio Martinez Lujan, age 83, of Kermit, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016 in Odessa, TX. He was born October 25, 1932 in Manuel Benevides, MX to Ignacio and Lucia (Martinez) Lujan. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Everyone knew Juvencio as “Calencho”. At the young age of fourteen he started working in the mines. At the age of sixteen he moved to the United States and spent his life working in construction. Calencho was always well dressed and enjoy telling stories about his childhood. He loved horseback riding and music. He had a special love for his family and adored his grandkids.

He is survived by his wife: Francisca Lujan of Kermit, TX; one son: Jose Neri Lujan and wife Martha of Monahans, TX; two daughters: Rita Elia Tavarez and husband Moises of Emporia, KS and Sylvia Galindo and husband Jesus of Arkansas City, KS; two brothers: Marcelino Lujan and wife Celestina of Kermit, TX and Severiano Lujan and wife Paula of Presidio, TX; one sister: Librada Lujan of Mexico; nine grandchildren: Wuibar, Nayeli, Naomi, Cynthia, Artemio, Erica, Mireya, Jose and Joel; fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Ignacio and Lucia Lujan.

A Rosary will be held starting at 7:00 pm, Sunday, March 27, 2016 at Family Services Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 pm, Monday, March 28, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit, TX, with Father Kevin McDonald officiating. Pallbearers will include: Wuibar Tavarez, Artemio Galindo, Jose Lujan Jr., Joel Lujan, Moises Tavarez and Jose Lujan Sr. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Ricardo Lujan, Baudilio Lujan, Florentino Lujan, Manuel Lujan, Jesus Galindo and Rogelio Aranda. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.

Bonifasio Aranda Quiroz
Bonifasio Aranda Quiroz, age 93, of Kermit passed from this life on Saturday, March 26, 2016. He was born in Alpine, TX on June 5, 1922, to Carmen and Pomposa (Aranda) Quiroz. Bonifasio married Carlota Prieto on February 11, 1946 in Ojinaga, Mexico and they celebrated 64 years together before her death in 2010.

Bonifasio was a talented musician who loved to play the guitar and sing. He enjoyed being outdoors farming or taking care of his horses and donkey. The family often caught Bonifasio sneaking a piece of candy to snack on. He was a Christian and a very loving grandfather.

He is survived by his sons: Armando A. Quiroz and wife Irene of Lovington, NM., Ramon Quiroz and wife Enriqueta of Odessa, TX., Gustavo Quiroz and wife Margarita of Alvarado, TX., Espiridion Quiroz of El Mulato, MX., Rogelio Quiroz and wife Ortencia of Kermit, TX., Elias Quiroz and wife Lupe of Kermit, TX., Carlos Quiroz and wife Karen of Monahans, TX., and Oscar Quiroz and wife Brenda of Kermit, TX.; daughters: Elida Quiroz Juarez and husband Jose of Kermit, TX., Amparo Quiroz Martinez and husband Jesus of Kermit, TX., Alicia Quiroz Santana and husband David of Acuna, MX., and Elsa Quiroz Berzoza and husband Reymundo of Kermit, TX.; sister: Etelvina Leyva of Midland, TX., 41 grandchildren; 87 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Carlota Quiroz; parents: Carmen and Pomposa Quiroz; sons: Javier Quiroz and Pablo Quiroz; daughter: Ana Maria Quiroz; 5 brothers; and 5 sisters.

Funeral Services will be 2 pm, Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit with Librado DeLao officiating. Burial will follow at Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers will include: Gustavo Quiroz, Ramon Quiroz, Rogelio Quiroz, Elias Quiroz, Carlos Quiroz and Oscar Quiroz. Honorary Pallbearer will be: Armando Quiroz.

Reymundo Bustillos Berzoza Sr.
Reymundo Bustillos Berzoza Sr. age 81, of Kermit, passed away Monday, March 28, 2016 in Big Spring, TX. He was born November 18, 1934 in Berino, NM to Anastacio and Manuela (Bustillos) Berzoza. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Reymundo was a hard working man who loved being outdoors and enjoyed doing maintenance and cement work out at the cemetery. He enjoyed reading his daily newspaper and was a big fan of the Kermit Yellow Jackets.

He is survived by his wife: Margarita Berzoza of Kermit, TX; three sons: Reymundo Berzoza Jr. and wife Elsa of Kermit, TX; Victor Berzoza and wife Liza of Kermit, TX and Sammy Berzoza and wife Sonia of Gardendale, TX; one brother: Tony Versoza and wife Marie of El Paso, TX; two sisters: Josefina Aguirre and husband Winslow of Kermit, TX and Linda Ortiz and husband David of Big Lake, TX; seven grandchildren: Linda, Denise, Valerie, Krystal, Eron, Sammy Ryan and Matthew; seven great-grandchildren: Justin, Ethan, Lucas, Mia, Jaxon, Addison and Emma.

He is preceded in death by one son: Michael Wayne Berzoza; one brother: Ramon; three sisters: Emma, Nena and Enedina; and his parents.

A Rosary will be held starting at 7:00 pm, Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Family Services Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be celebrated at 2:00 pm, Friday, April 1, 2016 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit, TX, with Julio Carrasco officiating. Sotera P. Verzoza
Sotera P. Verzoza, age 92, of Kermit, was called by our Lord on April 8, 2016. She was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico on April 22, 1923. She lived for years in Berino, New Mexico and then moved to Kermit, Texas in 1951.

We are thankful that her pain and suffering has ended. We are grateful for the time she was with us and all the lives she touched, she loved her family so dearly. She shared her respect and deep belief in God in the blessings she gave to everyone as they left her house. She had a beautiful soul, full of laughter, no one ever left her house hungry, or without a hug. She had a very nurturing and caring nature that everyone loved, and a green thumb we all envied.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Anastacio E. Verzoza; and daughter: Maria De Jesus Bueno.

She is survived by her son: Antonio (Tony) Versoza and wife Marie of El Paso, TX; grandchildren: Henry Valenzuela, Osmar Bueno, Oscar Bueno Jr., Osael Bueno, Regina Gholston, Catherine Sloan, and Jacob Versoza; 20 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

A rosary will be held at 7:00 pm, Monday, April 11, 2016 at Family Services Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit with Father Mark Salas officiating. Interment will follow at the Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers will include: Osael Bueno, Oscar Bueno, Enrique Valenzuela III, Keele Valenzuela, Andrew Alfaro, and Matthew Cook. Jesusita S. Vejil
Jesusita S. Vejil
Jesusita Suniga Vejil, widow of Felipe Jesus Vejil died at home on Friday after battling heart degeneration. She was 85.

She was born Maria de Jesus Suniga in the West Texas town of Monahans on August 6, 1930, the third of five children born to Catarino Suniga and Manuela Perales Suniga. When she reported to school she was given the Anglo-Saxon derivative name “Susie” by which she was known. She married Felipe Jesus Vejil (Jesse) of Imperial, Texas in 1947. They had seven children: Anita, Virginia, Yolanda, Jesse Jr., Rita, Maria Juliana and Roxanne. She raised two grandchildren Venetia and Angelique.

She is survived by six children, 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was her husband: Felipe Jesus Vejil; parents: Catarino and Manuela Suniga; daughter: Maria Juliana Vejil; three brothers: Andrew, Phillip, and Julian; and sister: Leonora.

Mrs. Vejil enjoyed robust good health nearly all her life and will notably be remembered for her poise, fortitude, and good cooking. She was a devoted wife and inspirational mother that worked a full-time job and managed to successfully oversee the scholastic and extracurricular activities of her children. Her interior authority and direction came from her faith and she thrived in the fellowship of her Saint Joseph Catholic Church Choir. With the exception of dancing with her beloved husband, she was never happier than when watching her children receive academic credentials. She lived a life that was full of adventure and wonder, and shared this enduring spirit with her family.

A Rosary will be held 7:00 pm, Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit. Funeral Services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, April 21, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit with Father Jose de la Cruz Longoria officiating. A cremation will follow. Pallbearers will include: Angel Rodriguez, Leopoldo Juarez, Angelique Escobar, Roxanne Vejil, Jesse Vejil and Rita Vejil. Honorary Pallbearers will include: Christopher Flores, Philip Flores, Arik Vejil, Jimmie Martinez and Crispin Vejil-Marquez. Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Luis Ramon Urquidi Alvarado, age 52, of Hobbs, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2016 in Hobbs, NM. He was born May 8, 1963 in Ojinaga, Mexico to Abraham and Maria (Alvarado) Urquidi.

Luis had a deep love for his grandkids. He loved playing football and was a huge Dallas Football fan. In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors in the mountains camping, fishing and horseback riding. He will always be remembered as a great jokester and story teller.

He is survived by his wife Alejandra Gutierrez of Hobbs, NM; five sons: Ramon Urquidi of Odessa, TX; Miguel Urquidi and wife Misti of Kermit, TX; Andy Urquidi of Denver, CO; Abraham Urquidi of Kermit, TX and Alan Lerma of Hobbs, NM; five daughters: Erica Urquidi of Kermit, TX; Jacqueline McVeigh and husband Jacob of AZ; Bianca Adams and husband Jim of Hobbs, NM; Jesica Gutierrez of Hobbs, NM and Yesenia Urquidi of Midland, TX; his parents: Abraham and Maria Urquidi of Hobbs, NM; one brother: Alonzo Urquidi and wife Cindy of Kermit, TX; five sisters: Martha Rodriguez and husband Luis of Midland, TX; Enedelia Herrera of Midland, TX; Almarosa Valles and husband Maurilio of Kermit, TX; Maribel Gomez and husband David of Kermit, TX and Elida Urquidi of Odessa, TX and 31 grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by two sisters: Sally Baeza and Marisol Urquidi.

A Rosary will be held starting at 7:00 pm, Friday, April 29, 2016 at Family Services Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 am, Saturday, April 30, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit, TX, with Father Mark Salas officiating. Pallbearers will include: Ramon Urquidi, Miguel Urquidi, Andy Urquidi, Abraham Urquidi, Alan Lerma and Alonzo Urquidi. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Sergio Quiroz and Elijah Urquidi. Daniel Gregg Murrie, age 87, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2016 in Odessa, TX. He was born in Dallas, TX January 15, 1929, to H.C. and Beulah (Shanahan) Murrie. He was a member of the United Church of God located in Odessa, TX.

Daniel was a long time resident of Odessa. After 40 plus years of teaching, he retired from Nimitz Jr. High School. He loved being outside working in his yard and he loved politics.

He is survived by his two nephews: Casey Hensley and wife Susan of Carlsbad, NM and Clay Hensley of Odessa, TX; two grand nieces: Chelsie Beal and family of Carlsbad, NM and Caitlin Hensley and daughter of Carlsbad, NM.

Preceding him in death was his parents: H.C. and Beulah Murrie of Kermit, TX and sister Colleen Hensley of Odessa, TX.

A Private Burial was held with the family at Kermit Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers: Herb Clardy and Herman Kinkaid.

Sallie Grogan
Sallie Grogan, age 92, of Kermit, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at the Ward Memorial Hospital in Monahans. She was born on February 23, 1924 in Blue Mountain, Arkansas to William Thomas and Lela (Barker) McInturf. Sallie married Chester Leroy Grogan Sr. in Coalgate, OK.

Sallie was a very generous person who loved helping others. She was the mother to the entire neighborhood in which she lived and by extension to all of her children's friends. Sallie loved working in her garden, planting flowers. God was also very important to Sallie, and she used her talents singing in the church. Her main love was her family, especially her grandkids.

Sallie is survived by five daughters: Patricia Thomas and husband Warren of Kermit, TX, Virginia Oliver and husband Richard of Kansas City, MO, Leona Madrigal and husband Mike of Kermit, TX, Edith Elless of Coweta, OK, and Glenda Bates of Marlin, TX, 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding Sallie in death were her husband: Chester Leroy Grogan Sr.; parents: William and Lela McInturf; 2 sons: Chester Jr. and Charles Ray; and 3 sisters: Elizabeth, Faye, and Berniece.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Kermit Cemetery officiated by Brother Gordon Cox. Honorary Pallbearers will include: Warren Thomas, Mike Madrigal, Alisha Hensley, Chris Thomas, Brad Thomas, Caleb Francis, Michal Elless, Jimmy Elless, Robert Thomas, Keith Grogan and Kyle Grogan.

Wayne Autrey, age 58, of Kermit, passed away at his home on Saturday, April 30, 2016. He was born on April 18, 1958 in Stockton, CA to Robbie Noel and Bonnie Jewel (Lee) Autrey.

Wayne was a longtime member of Grace Temple Baptist Church. He was a huge Star Trek fan and collector of memorabilia. He had a great love of the Bible and was happy to share his knowledge with others. Wayne greatly enjoyed movies, telling jokes, and performing magic tricks for children. He had a deep love for his family and his cat.

Wayne is survived by his mother: Bonnie Autrey of Comanche, TX; three sisters: Debbie Hollander and husband Danny of Comanche, TX, Robin Long of Kermit, TX, and Brenda Butler and husband Larry of Brownwood, TX, eight nieces and nephews: Dana Hollander, Deidra Hollander, Rose Gray, Renah Rodriguez and husband Aaron, Rikki Long, Larenda Bode and husband Dustin, Robbie Ballard and husband Brenden, and Cameron Butler; and numerous grand nieces and nephews.

Preceding Wayne in death was his father: Robbie Autrey; grandparents: Beulah and Arthur Autrey; and aunt: Edith Autrey.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Grace Temple Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Jonathan Braswell Sr. Honorary Pallbearers will include: John Curry, Jose Armendariz, Daryl Gryder, Coda Stephenson, Johnny Armendariz, and many other friends who touched his life.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.
Ruth Pearson
Zadie Ruth Pearson
Zadie Ruth Pearson, age 101, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2016 in Kermit, TX. She was born in Quanah, TX, January 28, 1915, to James Leonard and Sylvia Grace (Motley) Willis. Zadie was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

"Ruth" as she preferred to be called was a founding member of the First United Methodist Church. She was devoted to her church. She loved teaching children and after 42 years of teaching she retired from the Kermit School System. She loved to read, play bridge, Yahtzee and other games, especially with her friends at the Senior Citizen Center. Many times she would serve as Mrs. Claus during the Christmas parades.
Being born in 1915, the family wants to acknowledge some important details the Ruth lived through and got to see. In 1915, Albert Einstein published his General Theory of Relativity; Alexander Graham Bell conducted the first transcontinental telephone call between New York and San Francisco; Charlie Chaplin released his film "The Tramp"; the Boston Red Sox won the World Series, the sinking of the Lusitania occurred; Harry Houdini was performing straitjacket escapes; and the first neon sign for advertising was used. Later in Ruth's life, there was the Great Depression, Prohibition, women getting the right to vote, WWI, WWII, the creation of television, computers, space flight and many other things we take for granted today. Ruth grew up in a time a great technological advancement and got to see firsthand many wonders come into existence.

She is survived by her son: Bob Pearson and wife Nancy of Marana, AZ; one daughter-in-law: Linda Kay Pearson; two grandchildren: Fred Elliott Pearson and Laurie P. Williamson; three great-grandchildren: Zadie Reese Williamson, Katie Taggart and Holly Taggart.

She is preceded in death by her husband: Fred W. Pearson; one son: Fred Leonard Pearson; two sisters: Ruby and Mildred and parents: James and Sylvia.

Graveside Services are 10:00 am, Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Kermit Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Ruth Fowler officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are Russell Smith, Bill White, Robert Fischer, Rodney Hayes, Jimmy Kidd, Steve Goist and Robert Scoggins.

Dennis Dean Scheel
Dennis Dean Scheel, age 56, of Kermit, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2016. He was born on November 19, 1959 in Emporia, KS to Clifford and Karen (Shepherd) Scheel.

Dennis was a long time member of the Lutheran Church. His family was precious to him and he gave much time and devotion to caring for them. Uncle D, as he was known to his nieces and nephews, loved to share his vast knowledge of trivia and history. He spent much time researching the family genealogy. Often Dennis could be found listening to classic 70's music, studying mythology, watching baseball and hockey, supporting the high school band, or dressing up as Santa Claus for family gatherings. Dennis proudly served his country as a member of the US Navy.

Dennis is survived by his mother: Karen Scheel of Kermit, TX; two brothers: Robert Scheel and wife Sharon of Odessa, TX., and David Scheel and wife Tiffani of Jefferson, GA., sister: Tammy Tremblay of Kermit, TX., nieces and nephews: Melissa Scheel, Kyle Scheel, Hether Scheel, Hannah Scheel, Bethany Scheel, and Katherine and husband Timothy Hickman; and numerous grand nieces and nephews.

Preceding Dennis in death was his father: Clifford Scheel.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the DFW National Cemetery.

Cynthia Rose Koonter
Cynthia Rose Koonter, age 51, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2016 in Kermit, TX. She was born in Port Huron, MI on April 26, 1965, to Gerald Edwin and Mary Louise (Schutz) Koonter.

Spending time with her kids was the delightful highlight of Cynthia’s life. She enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and camping. She had a zeal for life and enjoyed learning, trivia and singing. Cynthia enjoyed helping others and had a contagious laugh that will always be remembered.

She is survived by her husband: Jeffrey Whaley of Kermit, TX; three sons: Christian Cain of Orange County, CA; Carson Cain of Riverside, CA and James Justice Koonter Whaley of Kermit, TX; three sisters: Terri Levy and husband Mark of Las Vegas, NV; Suzanne Altreche and husband Darren of Las Vegas, NV and Sherry Hansen and husband Mike of Camarillo CA; and her parents: Gerald and Mary Koonter.

Marjorie Simpson Chavez
Marjorie Simpson Chavez, age 91, of Kermit, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016. She was born on April 16, 1925 in Trent, TX to Halley Lee and Annie (Bowen) Simpson.

Marjorie was a member of the Methodist Church and she loved to sing in the church choir. She loved cooking and entertaining others; as well as, playing solitary, sewing and going out to eat with friends. Her main love was her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and she delighted in spoiling her grandkids. She enjoyed traveling with her family and taking her kids and grandkids all over the country. Marjorie's love of driving fast earned her the nick-name “Hot Rod Granny”.

Marjorie is survived by her son: Maurice “Mo” Ogden Jr. and wife Maudie Faye; one daughter: Sherry Brooks and husband Philip of Kermit, TX; 10 grandchildren: Chance, Amber, Ann, Billy Jack, Ray, Chad, Casey, Chelsea, Britany, and Brandie and nineteen great-grandchildren.

Marjorie was preceded in death by two husbands: Maurice Allen Ogden Sr.; and Michael Chavez Sr.; son: Stephen Miles Ogden; brothers: Dale, Ethal, and Tom; sister: Dottie; and granddaughter: Lacey.

A memorial services was held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Family Services Funeral Chapel, officiated by Chaplin Donnie Rollie.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.
