Manuel Manny Rivas 
Manuel “Manny” Carbajal Rivas
Manuel “Manny” Carbajal Rivas, age 20, of Wink, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2015 in San Angelo, Texas. He was born May 24, 1995 in Odessa, Texas to Manuel P. and Griselda (Carbajal) Rivas.

"Manny" as he was known to all his friends was dearly loved and will be missed. To his family he will always be known as “Baby”. Manny was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity at San Angelo State University. He valued his education and worked to achieve excellence. This was demonstrated by being honored on the Dean’s list at Angelo State. Manny was a hard worker, he worked many summers as a lifeguard for the Wink Schools and Winkler County. Manny was a loving son and brother. He was of the catholic faith.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents: Alfonso and Paula Rivas; God-Mother: Josefina Rivas Apodaca ; and uncle: Jesus Rivas.

A rosary will be held 7:00 pm, Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Family Services Funeral Parlor. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 am, Thursday, June 11, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit with Father John Lucido officiating. Pallbearers will include: Nestor Franco, Manuel Muniz, Josue Muniz, E.J. Jasso, Bolton Morales, Scott Salamina, Anthony Motemayer, and Martin Rodriguez.

Honorary Pallbearers will include: Brothers from Kappa Sigma.

Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Clint and Margarett Widner
Margarett Sue and William Clinton “Clint” Widner

Margarett Sue Wright was born in Kermit, TX on December 19, 1946 to the late Lenard & Ruth (Churchman) Wright.  William Clinton “Clint” Widner was born in Whiteface, TX on September 22, 1942 to Gilbert Ismael “G. I.” Widner & Naomi (Phillips) Gibson. He was raised by his devoted stepmother:  Edna (Dunn) Widner.  On January 15, 1962, Clint and Margarett married in Kermit.  From that point on they were inseparable.  They spent most of their lives in Kermit and raised their two sons, Lendale and Bert there.  Margaret was a talented artist and excellent cook.  She was truly a homemaker.  Clint was a hard working and loving father who dedicated his adult life to working and providing for his family, most notably in his position as District Manager for The Western Company.  Clint and Margarett were proud supporters of their sons in sports, with Clint coaching them in their youth leagues.  Clint was also active on the Kermit School Board & Jacket Booster Club.  Together, they loved to travel and visit with their family and friends.  Both were faithful Christians who loved the Lord.  In 2013, they retired to their lake home in Brownwood, TX.  

 

On June 7, 2015, Margarett departed on her journey to her heavenly home from their Lake Brownwood home.  After 53 devoted years together, Clint joined her on this final journey just two days later, passing from this earth on June 9, 2015.  The family invites you to come and celebrate their lives together on Monday, June 15, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit. Brother Bill Campbell will officiate services.

 

They are survived by their sons: Lendale Widner & wife Becky of Kermit and Bert Widner & wife LeeAnn of Kermit; five grandchildren: Alicia & husband Jason Singleton of San Angelo, Shelby & husband Jeff Wright of Stillwater, OK, Brady Widner & wife Jennifer of Midland, Christian Widner & fiancÚ Baudi Bonilla of Kermit, and Danika Widner of Kermit; five great -grandchildren: Nolan & Kinsley Wright, Carson Gonzales & Grayson Widner, and Cameron Singleton;  Clint’s sisters:  Libby Williams of Clifton TX, Jackie Webster & husband Richard of Ponder TX, Joyce Widner of Snyder, TX, and Sue Rhodes & husband Cecil of Lovington, NM; Clint’s brothers: John Gibson & wife Pat of Splendora, TX and Wayne Widner of Carlsbad, NM; Margarett’s brother: H. Charles Wright & wife Ruby of Kermit; her sisters: Velma Ross and Nita Johnson & husband Ray, all of Lake Brownwood. They were also loved and will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.

 

They were preceded in death by Clint’s parents: G.I. & Edna Widner, and Naomi Gibson; his brothers: Leroy Gibson & Robert Gibson; Margarett’s parents: Lenard & Ruth Wright; her brother: L.A. "Al" Wright; her sister: Evelyn Sturm; and her infant brothers: John L. & Joe Alvin Wright.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the charity of your choice. 

Hector Ojeda
Hector Manuel Ojeda

Hector Manuel Ojeda, age 73, passed away on June 1, 2015 in Odessa, TX.  He was born on May 5, 1942 in Cuauhtemoc, MX to Ismael and Maria Ernestina (Rodriguez) Ojeda. 

 

Hector was a handyman that was very talented. He enjoyed working on cars. He was a rancher that had a talent for growing spinach.

 

Hector is survived by four son: Alvaro Ojeda and wife Claudia of Kermit, TX; Felipe Ojeda of Eagle, CO; Hector Ojeda Jr. of Kermit, TX and Miguel Ojeda and wife Delfina of Zimapan, MX; one daughter: Isela Altamirana and husband Luis of Kermit, TX; three brothers: Ramon Ojeda and wife Manuela of  Blanca, CO; Ismael Ojeda and wife Francisca of Blanca, CO and Alfredo Ojeda and wife Patricia of Cuauhtemoc, MX;  four sisters: Olga Luna of Riverton, WY; Eva Quezada of Albuquerque, NM; Sabina Holguin and husband Ruben of Albuquerque, NM and Lidia Macias of Las Cruces, NM; four grandchildren: Jasmine, Jiselle, Noemi and Gabriela.

 

He was preceded in death by his daughter: Lucila Ojeda and his parents: Ismael and Maria Ojeda.

Funeral services were held 10:00 am, Friday, June 5, 2015 at Iglesia Apostolica de la fe en Cristo Jesus in Kermit with Pastor Robert Moreno officiating.  Interment was at Kermit Cemetery.  Pallbearers included: Alvaro Ojeda, Felipe Ojeda, Hector Ojeda, Luis Altamirano, Ruben Holguin and Adan Garcia. Honorary pallbearer were Miguel Ojeda. 

Arrangements were entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor of Kermit.

Sergio Lujan
Sergio Marquez Lujan

Sergio Marquez Lujan, age 49, of Hobbs, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, TX. He was born January 20, 1966 in Kermit, TX to Celestino "Tino" and Olga (Marquez) Lujan.  

Sergio was a man who loved his family, he greatly enjoyed spending time with his boys.  He was a big Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns fan.  Often Sergio could be found enjoying the outdoors on the golf course.  Sergio spent some time serving as a Wink Volunteer Fireman.  He was also a cowboy who rode bulls and enjoyed roping.  He was a proud graduate of  Kermit High School Class of 1984. 

Sergio is survived by his two sons: Sergio Ray Lujan of Wink and Corey Lujan of Hobbs;  his parents:  "Tino" and Olga Lujan of Kermit; three brothers:  Oscar Lujan and wife Francis of Kermit, Abel Lujan of Gardendale and Adrian Lujan and wife Cheryl of Odessa; two sisters:  Elsa Baeza and husband Rudy of Monahans and Amy Cano and husband Gonzalo of Christoval. 

A rosary will be held 8:30 pm, Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Family Services Funeral Parlor. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 2:00 pm, Friday, June 12, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit with Father Rudy Lacerna officiating. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Pallbearers will include: Sergio Contreras, Jesse Contreras, Jason Herrera, Robert Cueto, Bryan Henson, and Harold Lopez.  Honorary Pallbearers will include:  Abel Lujan, Adrian Lujan, Oscar Lujan, Chris Lujan, Alex Lujan and Jared Cano and Gonzalo Cano.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Joe Don Nevels
Joe Don Nevels

Joe Don Nevels, age 42, of Midland, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland, TX. He was born August 9, 1972 in Kermit, TX to William Chester and Shelia Ann (Harding) Nevels.  

Joe Don was a hard working man.  He was a very talented artist.  Joe Don enjoyed playing basketball and handball.  He loved spending time with his family and adored his grandbabies. 

Joe Don is survived by his three sons: Joe Nevels-Esquibel Jr. and Ronnie Nevels-Esquibel, both of Greeley, CO, and Josiah Nevels of Midland, TX; two daughters:  Chelsey Zamora and husband Tim of Midland, TX, and Shadae Narvaiz and husband Michael of Midland, TX; two brothers:  Shawn Turner of Kermit, TX, and Billy Nevels of Alvord, TX; and aunt:  Peggy Nevels of Longview, TX; and four grandchildren. 

There will be a public viewing at Family Services Funeral Parlor 12 noon to 8 pm Monday, June 15, 2015 and 8 am to 8 pm, Tuesday, June 16, 2015. 

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor. 

Owen T Taylor
Owen Tolliver (O.W.) Taylor

Owen T.  (O.W.) Taylor, age 51, of Wink, passed from this life on Friday, June 12, 2015 in Pyote TX. He was born March 23, 1964 in Kermit, TX to Dewart T. and Carolyn (Fisk) Taylor-Fox.  

O.W. was a talented electrician and spent years as a lineman.  He was best known for his love of music; first as a singer and songwriter, later as the lead singer for the Southern Comfort Band.  He was loved by his many fans. O.W. was in Boy Scouts and played the trumpet in High School. He loved to cook BBQ for friends and family, and they will always remember his special homemade BBQ Sauce. He loved to make others laugh with his impressions.  

O.W. is survived by his wife:  Melissa Plunkett-Taylor of Wink; his mother Carolyn Fox and step-father Al of Odessa; two sons:  K.C. Taylor of Ft. Hood, TX, Kolby Taylor of Jal, NM; step-son:  Clayton Holcomb of Wink, TX; daughter: Kimberlee Taylor of Jal, NM; two step daughters:  Amanda Plunkett and Alicia Holcomb both of Wink, TX; brother:  Mike Taylor and wife Laurie of Midland, TX; two sisters:  Linda Colburn of Midland and Liz Weaver and husband Wes of Odessa, TX; one grandchild: Wyatt Plunkett; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 pm; Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Family Services Funeral Chapel officiated by Brother James Cotton.  The family will have a private burial directly following services. Honorary Pallbearers will be his life long friends.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Guadalupe Lupe Baeza
Guadalupe "Lupe" Baeza

Guadalupe "Lupe" Baeza, age 33, passed from this life on Saturday, June  13, 2015 at Winkler County Memorial Hospital in Kermit, TX. He was born on April 26, 1982 in Fort Stockton to Jose Pedro Baeza and Maria (Jaramillo) Chavez. He was of Catholic Faith.

Lupe was an outgoing young man who always wore a smile on his face. He was very friendly and loved to see others happy. Lupe had a contagious laugh and was an excellent cook. He was known to many as Lupe but was also known as Max. He will be dearly missed by all the lives he touched.

Those left to cherish his memory and smile are his mother: Maria Chavez  and stepfather: Jose Saenz of Kermit ; girlfriend: Jessica Palmateer of Kermit; brothers: Jose Pete Baeza  Jr. and wife Laticia, Luis Saenz, both of Kermit, and Guadalupe Saenz and wife Violet of Delta, CO; sisters: Margo Mendoza and husband Martin of Odessa, Isabel King of Stanton, TX, Tereza Baeza and husband Chris Taravarez  and Veronica Saenz Miramontes, both of Odessa; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.

His father, Pete Baeza, preceded him in death.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Friday, June 19, 2015 at Eastside Church of Christ in Kermit with Brother Roy Christopher officiating. Pallbearers will include: Andrew Mendoza, Michael Waight, Samuel Waight, Rex Bagley, Cameron Thompson, Kris Tavarez and Matthew Thomas. Honorary Pallbearers will include: Jose Baeza Jr., Luis Saenz, Guadalupe Saenz, Martin Mendoza and Raymond Waight. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Dude Schlehuber
Rolland Gene (Dude) Schlehuber

Rolland Gene (Dude) Schlehuber, age 85, passed away peacefully at his residence in Kermit, TX on Thursday,  June 18, 2015. He was born on July 21, 1929 at the Hetherington homestead in Morrison, OK to Frank and Maud (Hetherington) Schlehuber. 

Dude attended school in St. Louis , OK, graduating in 1947. He married the love of his life, Cora Mozella (Coon) Schlehuber in Maud, OK on June 29, 1952. They were blessed with almost 63 years together, before he went to meet the Lord on Thursday. Dude was active in Boy Scouts as a youth and attained the highest scouting rank of Eagle in 1945. In his adult years, he served as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 466 in Kermit.  He worked for Magnolia Oil Co. and then for Mobil Oil Co. for 37 years, retiring as a Production Foreman in 1988. After retirement, Dude and Mozella bought an RV trailer, joined a RV Camping Club called the West Texas Gadabouts, and traveled all over the country, including a 2 month excursion to Alaska. Dude was an avid "rockhound" and delighted in polishing rocks and making jewelry for family and friends. He was loved dearly and will be truly missed.   

Those preceding him in death include his parents: Frank and Maud Schlehuber; and two brothers: Kelles and Warren Schlehuber. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife: Mozella of the home; son: Michael Schlehuber and wife Lois of Lafayette, LA; daughter: Margaret Baggett and husband Rick of Borger, TX; son: Mark Schlehuber and wife Laurie of Odessa, TX; sister: Judy Kinsey and husband Steve of Tecumseh, OK; sisters-in-law: Betty Schlehuber of Moore, OK and Etta Mae Schlehuber of Tecumseh, OK; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. 

A family visitation is scheduled from 6 pm-8 pm, Sunday, June 21, 2015 at Family Services Funeral Parlor. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Monday, June 22, 2015 at Family Services Funeral Parlor with Brother Dudley Mullins officiating. Interment will follow services at Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers will include: Michael and Mark Schlehuber, Rick Baggett, Sam Schlehuber, Jeff Reed, Dustin Hawley and Bryan Baggett.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor of Kermit.

Della Mildred Sanders

Name:  Della Mildred Sanders      Age:  94

Died:  June 29, 2015                      Place of Death:  Midland, TX

Services and Officiate:  Thursday, July 2 at 2:00PM at the First United Methodist Church, Kermit, TX.  Pastor Elinor Ruth Fowler officiating.

Burial:  Private Interment at Suggs Cemetery, Hearne, TX

Biography:  Della Sanders was born on January 18, 1921 in Winters, Texas the fourth of six children of Robert and Floy Pearl Brewer. 

She married Erwin Nunley on October 8, 1938 in Stanton, Texas.  Together, they moved to Kermit, Texas and had a son, Darwin Nunley, on April 6, 1950.  They moved to Hearne, TX in 1976.

After her first husband passed away, Della married James “Jim” Sanders on March 21, 1983 in Hearne, TX.  They moved back to Kermit, Texas in 1983 and Della lived there the remainder of her life.

Della often worked as a bank teller, both in Kermit and Hearne.  She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church.  Her greatest joys were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She enjoyed visiting with friends on the telephone and solving crosswords.  She always drove her cute little Mercury cars to the beauty salon every Thursday to get her hair done.  Della often met friends at Jerrie’s Cafe and the Huddle House for meals.  She was a lady in all circumstances and will be missed.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, a son, and her siblings.

Survivors:  Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Jo Jan Nunley and two grandsons, Patrick Nunley and Spencer Nunley and great granddaughter, Maggie, all of Canyon, TX; a granddaughter, Scarlet Estlack and husband, Russell, and great grandsons Nathan and Daniel of Clarendon, TX; a stepdaughter, Sandy Emmerson and husband Mike of Kermit, TX; two step grandchildren, Lacey Bavousett and husband Brian and Mycah Glover and husband Matt and step great-granddaughter Emily, all of Midland, TX; and two nieces, Marilyn Jo Smith and Arvella Wade.

Memorials:  The family suggest memorials be made to the Suggs Cemetery Association in Hearne, TX or the Education Ministry of One Hope Church of Christ in Midland, TX. 

Cecil Lemmons
Cecil “Buck” Lemmons

Cecil “Buck” Lemmons, age 53, passed away in Kermit, TX on Saturday, July 4, 2015. He was born on August 2, 1961 in Kermit, TX to Charles Frances and Lora Lee Lemmons.

Buck graduated from Wink High School in 1979.  He was on the debate team, played tennis, basketball, and football.  After graduation, Buck joined the U.S. Navy.  After his tour in the Navy, Buck became a roughneck and driller.  He also did some carpentry work.  He was loved by many.  Buck had a very big heart and he never met a child or animal that didn’t love him.  He was the life of the party!  Buck enjoyed fishing with his brother.  Buck had many friends and will be truly missed.  He lost the love of his life Sally (Beth) Sutton in August of 2012.  Buck helped take care of her during her long battle with cancer.

Those preceding him in death include his parents: Charles Frances and Lora Lee Lemmons; and his grandparents: Frank and Vera Hobson.

Those left to cherish his memory are three brothers: Joseph Lemmons and wife Karen of Kermit, TX, Horace “Pokey” Collum of Houston, TX, and Robert Brown of Denver, CO; two sisters: Kathryn Brougham and husband Michael of Dallas, TX, and Sharon Dean of Hobbs, NM; six nieces: Lisa, Brandi, Bridget, Rhonda, Kerri, and Kristen; one nephew: David Schubert; great-nephews: Arron, Matthew, Kyler, Kaydon, and John Jr.; great-nieces: Destiny, DeShauna, Erric, Karen, and Kristen.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Monday, June 13, 2015 at Belvue Baptist Church on Monahans Hwy. with Glenda Mixon officiating.

There will be a Benefit at Poppy’s Place on Friday, July 10, 2015 from 7 pm to 12 midnight, to help Buck’s family with expenses.

Amelia Nunez Flores
Amelia Nunez Flores, age 64, of Kermit, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2015 in Odessa, TX. She was born January 25, 1951 in Kermit, TX to Senon and Paubla (Vara) Nunez.

Amelia was an active member the Catholic Church and worked for Kermit ISD in the food service department. She was a very kind and loving person. Amelia enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. She loved to play bingo with her friends. Amelia was known as a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, and friend.

Amelia is preceded in death by her husband: Miguel Flores; her parents: Senon and Paubla Nunez; one sister: Clarita Lopez; and one brother: Joe Nunez.

Amelia is survived by her daughters: Amanda Perez, Annett Serbantez and Valerieanna Corina Flores all of Kermit, TX; her brothers: Refugio Vara Nunez and wife Linda of Huntsville, TX, Julio Vara Nunez and wife Pasquela of Ft. Stockton, TX, and Frank Vara Nunez and wife Dora of Anson, TX; her sister: Alecia Acosta of Monahans, TX; and her grandchildren: Jennifer, Samantha, Vicente, Malorie, and Albert.

A Rosary will be held starting at 7:00 pm, Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Family Services Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Friday, July 10, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit, TX, with Father Mark Salas officiating. Interment will follow at the Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers will include: Frankie Nunez, Jr., Fabien Nunez, Simon Acosta, Tommy Nunez, Larry Acosta, Ismael Cobos, Vicente Serbantez, and Albert Serbantez. Honorary Pallbearers will include: Joe Nunez, Refugio Nunez, Frank Nunez and Julio Nunez.

Edwin Phillips Jr
Edwin Lafayette Phillips, Jr.

Edwin Lafayette Phillips, Jr., age 94, of Jal, NM passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at his residence in Jal, NM. He was born Monday, January 17, 1921 in Iowa Park, TX to Edwin Lafayette Phillips, Sr. and Annie May (Cantrell).  

Edwin worked in the oil & gas industry for many years.  He enjoyed camping, fishing, riding four-wheelers, and hiking in the mountains.  He was a member of the Church of Christ and a part of the Senior Citizens Organization. Edwin had a sweet dog named Scarlet that he absolutely adored.  

Edwin is preceded in death by: his parents; his grandson: Dominic Phillips; and his great granddaughter: Olivia Jones.

Edwin is survived by his four daughters: Carol Mantooth of Jal,NM, Brenda Phillips of Las Cruces, NM, Judy Phillips of Wichita Falls, TX, and Mayella Phillips of El Paso, TX; one brother: James Phillips of Florida; his grandchildren: Julie Jones, Donna Peugh, and Billy Jones; and his great-grandchildren: Daniel and Janie. 

A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2015 at 3:00 pm (MST) at the Jal Cemetery in Jal, NM. Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

David Stephenson
David Wayne Stephenson

David Wayne Stephenson, age 54, passed away in Arlington, TX on Wednesday, July 8, 2015. He was born on Saturday, October 15, 1960 in Midland, TX to Douglas and Kathryn (Hulse) Stephenson-Shipley.  David married the love of his life Marge Porras on August 11, 1979 in Kermit, TX and they celebrated 35 wonderful years together. 

David was a man who was proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.  He worked at Starbucks which allowed him to really enjoy his favorite coffee. Often, David could be found working in his workshop, working in his yard, tending his garden and loved playing the lottery.  He enjoyed collecting coins and collecting Starbuck's mugs from around the world.  David had a great love for music, Pink Floyd was one of his favorite artist.  He will be missed greatly by his family and his special pet cat "Nemo".

Those preceding him in death include his father: Douglas Stephenson; step-father W. F. "Ship" Shipley; and brothers: Brian Stephenson and James Stephenson. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Marge Stephenson of Arlington, TX; mother:  Kathryn "Kathy" Shipley of Kermit, TX; son: Shae Stephenson and wife Lauren of Arlington; daughters:  Miranda Stephenson and husband Ruben and Erica Stephenson and husband Victor both of Arlington, TX; brother: Coda Stephenson and wife Denise of Ft. Worth, TX; sisters:  Gina Piner and husband Judd of Burleson, TX, and Jolie Nuss of Alvarado, TX; and seven grandchildren:  Taylor, Adam, Aiden, Nolan, Rayne, Levi and Royce Wayne. 

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Family Services Funeral Chapel with Brother Dudley Mullins officiating. Honorary pallbearers will include: Shae Stephenson, Adan Perez, Ruben Avila, Jose Martinez, Victor Rojas, Johnny Long and "Nemo" Stephenson.  Interment will be privately held at a later date.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.
