Maria a Muniz 
Maria Amparo (Barraza) Muniz

Maria Amparo (Barraza) Muniz, of Kermit, age 72, went to be with her Heavenly Father Thursday, August 28, 2014 in Odessa, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 21, 1940 in Villa Aldama, Chihuahua, MX to Miguel Barraza and Soleda Hildago. She was of the Catholic faith. She was married to her loving husband, Eugenio Muniz Sr., for 61 years until his passing in March of this year. 

Maria was a loving mother with a heart of gold. She was an awesome cook who enjoyed holiday gatherings and was known for cooking a great pot of beans. She loved to dance, crochet and sew. Maria was the rock of the family and loved them all dearly. She had an undying love for God, stayed true to her faith and led by example. She had a loving heart and never spoke ill of anyone. She loved her family with all her heart and her memory will live in our hearts forever. 

Those left to cherish her memory include three sons: Juan M. Muniz and wife Socorro of Kermit, TX, Eugenio A. Muniz Jr. and wife Maribel of Kermit, TX and Miguel Muniz and wife Lisa of Colleyville, TX; seven daughters: Olivia Vigil and husband Manuel of Midland, TX, Elia Muniz of Kermit, TX, Rosa Ramirez and husband Manuel of Odessa, TX, Guadalupe Montes and husband Claudio of  Kermit, TX, O’lisa Moralez and husband Anastacio of Seminole, TX, Bertha Urias and husband Chuma Carrasco of Kermit, TX and Isabel Sanchez and husband Cruz of Kermit, TX; one brother: Manuel Brito and wife Cecilia of Cuauhtemoc, MX; one sister: Juana Barraza of Juarez, MX; 41 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. 

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband: Eugenio Muniz Sr.; her parents: Miguel Barraza and Soleda Hildago; two brothers: Cruz Hidalgo and Chava Barraza; one grandchild: Edward Montes and two great grandchildren: Celeste Gallegos and Mayte Kataleya de Ramon.  

The Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm, Monday, September 1, 2014 at Family Services Funeral Parlor. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Rudy Lacerna officiating. Pallbearers will include Robby Muniz, Averry Lopez, Richard Muniz, Oscar Urias, Jeremiah Moralez, Joel Muniz and Efren Vigil. Honorary Pallbearers are Arturo Medrano, Guero Brito, Manuel Brito, JoseCruz Vigil, Marco Martinez, Alonzo Gallegos Jr. and Alfonzo Muniz. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Patsy Hill
Patsy Ruth Hill

Patsy Ruth Hill, age 77, of Kermit went to be with her Heavenly father, Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the Winkler County Memorial Hospital. She was born on November 7, 1936 in Ben Lomond, Arkansas to William Iva and Mary Lee (Ford) Leathers. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kermit. She was married to her loving husband, Lloyd Hill, on September 9, 1955 and they celebrated 58 years together. 

Patsy took great delight in being a grandmother.  She often could be found attending school functions just to watch.  She spent many years helping and serving others not only as a “Pink Lady” but also as a Bible school teacher where she taught many children’s classes.  Patsy loved to play games and watch baseball.  Everyone who loved her called her Grandma.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband:  Lloyd Hill of Kermit: son: Larry Hill and wife Becky of Kermit, TX; daughter:  Kim Hicks and husband Kevin of Cedar Park, TX; brother:  J. R. Leathers and wife Paula of Kermit; sister:  Pansy Barker of Pawhuska, OK; four grandchildren:  Derek Hill and wife Crystal, Lance Hill and significant other Kaleena, Jacy Hicks, and Jake Hicks; and one great-grandchild:  Jax Hill.

She is preceded in death by her parents: William and Mary Lee Leathers and sisters: Peggy Thomas

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Kermit with Rev. Dr. Ruth Fowler officiating.  Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Pallbearers will include:  Derek Hill, Lance Hill, Jake Hicks, Aaron Williams, Ron Crawford, and Brody Burns.  Honorary pallbearers will include:  James Lee Burns, Teddy Baremore, and Tommy Smith.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Rex Robertson
Rex Robertson

Rex Robertson, age 83, of Kermit, went to be with his heavenly father Wednesday, September 10, 2014 in Odessa. He was born on February 8, 1931 in Vivian, LA to Ruben T. and Georgia (French) Robertson. He married his loving wife, June (Andrews) Robertson, on December 30, 1950 and they celebrated 63 years together. 

Rex was a man who loved the outdoors.  He enjoyed fishing with his buddy, Dave Pennington, and hunting dove and quail.  He spent time as a Little League coach and worked with the Boy Scouts.  Rex had a love for all sports, especially the NY Yankees. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife:  June Robertson: two sons:  Travis Robertson of Lubbock, TX and John Robertson and wife Janice of Lovington, NM; seven grandchildren: Shelley, Laura, Maegan, Gloria, Lisa, Joel, and Daniel; ten great-grandchildren:  Kyleigh, Kaitlyn, Gabriel, Kealan, Jevon, Makayla, Elisabeth, Elijah, Ethan, and Dylan; and one great-great-grandchild: Motley.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Ruben and Georgia; 2 brothers:  Gene and Don; 2 sisters:  Sybil and Barbara.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit with Bro. Dudley Mullins officiating.  Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers will include: Denny McCombs, Rick Holly, Larry Antley, Craig Robertson, Wesley Robertson, and Shelby Pennington.  Honorary Pallbearers will include: Dub King, Stanley Mulsow, and Jimmy Don Robinson. S.E. Warnick

S.E. Warnick, age 89, of Kermit, went to be with his heavenly father Monday, September 15, 2014. He was born on November 8, 1924 in Madill, OK to Lee and Carrie (Armstrong) Warnick. He married his loving wife, Unita M. Munn, on June 22, 1945 in Ft. Pierce, FL, sharing 66 years together before her death in 2012. 

S.E. was a man who loved sports.  He enjoyed fishing and going to the casino. PaPa Warnick as his family call him had a great love for his family and friends.  He was a founding member of the Grace Temple Baptist Church and active with the Kermit Masonic Lodge 1258, AF & AM.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son:  Barry Warnick and wife Crystal of Kermit; daughter:  Elaine Pilkington and husband William of Kermit; 5 grandchildren: Rachael, Rebecca, Shane, Stacy, and Cathy; 15 great-grandchildren:  Katlyn, Shaylee, Daisy, Ashley, Whittney, Walter, John, Eric, Jared, Bentley, Mercedes, Kaden, Kinley, Robert, and Michael.

He is preceded in death by his wife:  Unita Warnick; parents: Lee and Carrie Warnick; two brothers:  W. C. and Austin; and one sister: Esther Lee.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Grace Temple Baptist Church in Kermit with Bro. John Curry officiating.  Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers will include: Stacy Wright, Roby Walker, Justin Taylor, Jeremy Garcia, Cornelius Waters, Garrett Garcia and Gary Morse.  Honorary pallbearer will be Shane Warnick.  Arrangements were entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.
Jose Dominguez 
Jose G. Dominguez 

Jose G. Dominguez, age 74, passed from this life on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at his home in Kermit.  He was born on March 18, 1940 in Redford, TX to the late Alejo and Albina (Guardiola) Dominguez . He was Catholic.

Jose was a sports enthusiast. He loved all kinds of college and pro-sports, and taught his kids to do the same.  His favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs. He was a hard worker, and a great example and teacher of love and respect.  Family always came first.  He enjoyed taking his dogs, Daisy and Sam, out for a drive.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife: Delia Franco Dominguez of Kermit, TX; one son: Jose G. Dominguez Jr. and wife Imelda of Monahans; two daughters:  Sylvia Burns and husband James Lee of Kermit and Terry Hinojos and wife Jovenal of Odessa; brother:  Modesto Dominguez and wife Adelaida of Midland; sisters:  Tina Lujan and husband Marcelino of Kermit, and Mary Lou Saucedo and husband Luis of Grand Prairie; five grandchildren:  Angela “Nikki” Friday, Jaimie Belen Miller and husband Jeremy, Brody Burns, Jaden Hinojos, and Jorden Dominguez.

He is preceded in death by his parents:  Alejo and Albina, two brothers:  Carlos and Manuel; and two sisters:  Manuela and Margarita.

A Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm, Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Family Services Funeral Parlor.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am, Thursday, September 18, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Rudy Lacerna officiating. Pallbearers include: Marc Fuentes, Ramon Franco, Robert Dominguez, Joe Chavez, Raul Lara, and Johny Martinez.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Brody Burns, Jaden Hinojos, and Jorden Dominguez. Virgie Nell Adams

Virgie Nell Adams, age 71, passed from this life on Thursday, September 18, 2014 in Kermit, TX. She was born in Vidor, TX on November 13, 1942 to Hulen and Mabel (Whittington) Carter.

Virgie enjoyed life and being the life of the party.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter: Edith Arnold of Wink, TX and one sister: Dorothy Ruth Campbell of Wink, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents; eight sisters and a number of nieces and nephews.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor. 

HERIBERTO VASQUEZ

Heriberto Montoya Vazquez

Heriberto Montoya Vazquez, age 60, of Kermit, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2014. He was born on March 2, 1954 in Mulato, Mexico to Anastacio and Obdulia (Montoya) Vasquez.

Heriberto was a Christian man who was known to be a very hard worker.  He lived his life according to the motto: “Never do tomorrow what you can do today.” He also tried to pass this on to his family.  Heriberto liked to play games, sing, play the guitar, and watch horse racing.  He also took pride in never being late.

Those left to cherish his memory include his parents:  Anastacio and Obdulia Vasquez of Kermit; two sons:  Eric Vasquez  and Ervey Vasquez,  both of  Richland Hills; two daughters:  Yanet Vasquez of Andrews and Erica Vasquez of Andrews; two brothers:  Mario Vasquez and wife Margarita of Kermit and Anastacio Vasquez Jr. and wife Juana of Monahans; two sisters:  Maria Luisa Lares and husband Vicente of Kermit and Anna Ramos and husband Jesus of Kermit; and six grandchildren: Savier, Javier, Yamery, Yarizma, Adriel, and Eryka-Alley.

He is preceded in death by his cousin:  Jesse Montoya and niece: Delaney Quiros Lares.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Centro de Fe 320 S. Pine in Kermit with Ramiro Anaya officiating.  Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers will include: Newlee Ramos, Mario Garcia, J.J Ramos, Ele Vasquez, Rigo Montoya, Margarito Vasquez, and Yanet Vasquez.  Honorary Pallbearers will include: Erica Vasquez, Mario Vasquez, Anastacio Vasquez Jr., Maria Luisa Lares, Anna Ramos,  Eric Vasquez, and Ervey Vasquez.  Arrangements were entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Mary Eva (Brown) Carman

Mary Eva (Brown) Carman, age 88, passed from this life on Friday October 3, 2014 in Odessa, TX. She was born in Liberty, KY on September 24, 1926 to Jesse A. and Annetta Florence (Atwood) Brown.

Mary was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Jal, NM.  All of her friends and family called her “MawMaw.” Mary’s pride was her family and she devoted much of her time to them. She also had a love for cooking, gardening, and being outdoors doing yard work. She greatly enjoyed traveling and seeing the world.

Those left to cherish her memory include her two daughters: Debby Bailey and husband William of Odessa, TX and Nancy Savoie and husband Tony of Jal, NM; three grandchildren: Russ Savoie and wife Casey, John Savoie and wife Miki, Paula Arceneaux and husband Joseph and five great-grandchildren: Shayna, Kayla, Garrett, Cole and Ty.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Paul R. Carman Jr., her parents, and her brothers and sisters.

Graveside services will be 2:00 pm, Monday, October 6, 2014 at Kermit Cemetery in Kermit, TX with Brother Alan Speed officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will include Russ Savoie, John Savoie, Paula Arceneaux and Her Church Family.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor. 

Carol Lynn Watkins

Carol Lynn Watkins, age 76, passed from this life on Friday, October 3, 2014 in Andrews, TX. She was born in Jal, NM on March 31, 1938 to Charlie and Lura (Cantwell) Mosley. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Jal, NM.

Carol was an avid “Dallas Cowboy” fan. She was a loving mother to everyone. In her spare time she loved to settle in with a good book.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband: Gary Watkins of Jal, NM; two sons: Gregory Watkins and wife Kathleen of Woodlands, TX and Roger Watkins and wife Dawn of Denison, TX; one brother: Charles Ray Mosley of Wink, TX; four grandchildren: Kristin Watkins, Amber Cerean and husband Bo, Kristen Cole and husband Tommy and Alexandra McLennan; and two great-grandchildren: Brayden Cerean and Camden Cole.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Charles and Lura Mosley.

A Memorial Service will be 10:00 am (MST), Monday, October 6, 2014 at Calvary Baptist Church in Jal, NM with Brother Alan Speed officiating.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Helen M. Shelton

Helen M. Shelton passed away on October 17, 2014, at Lea Regional Medical Center in Hobbs, New Mexico after a long illness. She was born on March 20, 1928 in Shippenville, PA to Frank Nelson and Georgia Leah (Whitling) Montgomery. 

She spent her early years in Pennsylvania and came to New Mexico with her parents after graduating from Mt. Jewett High School in 1945.  She attended Eastern New Mexico College for three years before marrying W. G. “Jack” Shelton on August 14, 1948. 

Following the birth of three sons, Helen returned to college and earned a bachelor’s degree from College of the Southwest in 1965.  She taught English and Science in Jal Public Schools for 25 years. 

She loved being with her family and enjoyed traveling, reading, and doing all kinds of puzzles and games.  One of her favorite activities was researching genealogy on the computer for her family and friends. 

Helen was a member of First United Methodist Church in Jal, a member of Lambda Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, and a member and past Worthy Matron of Jal Order of Eastern Star Chapter # 60. 

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, and her brothers: Earl and George Montgomery. 

Surviving are sons, Dave Shelton and wife Sandy of Draper, UT, Kent Shelton and wife Mary of San Angelo, TX, Mike Shelton and wife Kathy of Duncanville,  TX; and her sister-in-law, Mary Beth Montgomery, of Sugar Land, TX.  Grandchildren are Kyle (Megan) Shelton of Chantilly, VA, Tyler Shelton of Youngtown, AZ, Scott (Amber) Shelton of Austin, TX, Melisa (Ben) Storey of San Angelo, TX, Jennifer (Michael) Estes of San Angelo, TX, Gideon Shelton of Dallas, TX, Angela Shelton of Midland, TX, Emily (Timothy) Rock of Phoenix, AZ, and Krystal (Doug) Maxwell, Nederland, TX.  Also surviving are fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. 

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM CST on October 21, 2014 at Kermit Cemetery, Kermit, Texas with Rev. Dennis Durfee of Gentiva Hospice officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor of Kermit.

Jeff Bettis Thompson

Jeff Bettis Thompson, age 94, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 in Yoakum, TX. He was born in De Leon, TX on October 24, 1919 to Andy and Ida (Bettis) Thompson.

Jeff attended the Church of Christ in Wink, TX.  At the time of Jeff’s passing he was only 10 days shy of his 95th birthday. Jeff had a passion for being outside. Many days he could be found gardening or fishing. He loved raising cows and hogs. One of his favorite pastimes was sharing coffee with his friends every morning. Jeff was a decorated WW II Army Veteran who had received the Purple Heart.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife: Edna Thompson of Yoakum, TX; one son: Don Thompson and wife Naomi of Kermit, TX; two daughters: IdaBeth Armstrong of Odessa, TX and Emily McElveen and husband Monty of Crane, TX; four step children: Jamie Ratley and wife Bobby of Yoakum, TX, Rodney Ratley and wife Vicki of Yoakum, TX, Brenda Parker and husband Nathan of Victoria, TX and Jacque Beckner and husband Forrest of Azle, TX; one brother: Pat Thompson of Fredericksburg, TX; two sisters: Ellen Thompson and Aylene Hartley both of OK; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife: Martha; his parents: Andy and Ida; one daughter: Rebecca Jones; and one sister: Mary Lou Glenewinkel.

Memorial services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Family Services Funeral Parlor in Kermit, TX with Brother Dudley Mullins officiating. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Misty Holaway
Misty Lynn Holaway

Misty Lynn Holaway, age 41, of Kermit left this life on November 7, 2014.   She was born on July 10, 1973 to Jimmy and Marsha Holaway.  She was a mother of six children, worked as a landscaper, enjoyed music and dancing and being with her children and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents:  Jimmy and Marsha Holaway; grandparents:  R.D. and Ruby Holaway; and her son: Robert (Bobby) Blankenship, who passed on April 7, 2002. 

Those left to cherish her memory are her children:  Cody Winston Butler of Kermit, Trystin Michael Holaway of Kermit, Chase Slaughter of Wink, Priscilla Slaughter of Wink; two brothers:  Robert Holaway of Wink and Michael Holaway of Nebraska; mother-in-law:  Dora Dennis of Wink; and many friends, nieces and nephews. 

A Memorial service will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Friday, November 14, 2014 at Family Services Funeral Parlor with Glenda Mixon officiating.  A benefit will follow at Poppy’s Place in Kermit. 

Bob Fowler
Robert Joe, “Bob” Fowler

Robert Joe, “Bob” Fowler, age 84, passed from this life on Sunday, November 9, 2014, in Kermit, TX. He was born in Henrietta, OK on November 21, 1929 to Thomas and Myra (Burnett) Fowler.

Bob was a generous, kindhearted, loving man. He was a soft spoken man of few words, and wise beyond measure. His children describe him as a Godly man: meek, merciful, above reproach and very loving. Talented in many areas, Bob especially loved being outside working on his yard or special projects in his shop. Most notable about Bob were his woodworking skills. His creative mind enabled him to become a master carpenter who could, and did, build anything out of wood. His projects ranged from artfully crafted toys to a backyard roller-coaster as a special Christmas present for his children. At one time, he owned a cabinet shop and had a part in remodeling many of the houses in Jal. He built two homes for his family and a piano studio for his first wife, Minnie. His mind was never idle, nor were his hands.

Those left to cherish Bob's memory include his wife, Kay Fowler of Jal, NM; three sons: Robert “Bob” Fowler and wife Angela of Houston, TX, Jerry Fowler and wife Pam of Austin, TX, and Mike Fowler and wife Sara of Matador, TX; one daughter: Dorothy Lindsey and husband Mitch of Odessa, TX; and a second family including two stepsons: Clay Russell and wife Brenda of Williamsburg CO, and Ned Russell and wife Denise of Odessa, TX; two stepdaughters: Angela Cranfill and husband K.C. of Hobbs, NM and Amy Jordon of Andrews, TX. Bob has one living brother, Bill Fowler and wife Mary of LaSalle, IL; 25 grandchildren, and 36 great-grandchildren with one on the way. He had many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his first wife: Minnie (Hobson) Fowler in 1988; his parents: Thomas Benjamin Fowler III and Myra Elvira (Burnett) Fowler; three brothers: T.B., Charles, and Burnard Fowler; and two sisters: Theresa Drake and Dorothy Melton.

A funeral service celebrating Bob's life will be held at 11:00 am (MST), Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Church of Christ in Jal, NM with Jerry Fowler, Darrell Micham, and other family members officiating. Interment will follow at the Jal Cemetery. His grandsons will be the Pallbearers.

Contributions can be sent in Bob's honor to New Mexico Christian Children's Home in Portales, New Mexico, or Manuelito Children's Home in Gallup, N.M.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.
