Rita Marquez Dominguez

Rita Marquez Dominguez, of Kermit, age 62, passed from this life on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 in Kermit, TX. She was born on January 16, 1952 in Manuel Benavides, MX to Ramon and Guadalupe (Suchil) Marquez. She was of the Catholic faith.

Rita adored her kids and was always there to lend a helping hand to her family and others. She enjoyed shopping and hunting for bargains.

Those left to cherish her memory include her two sons: Raul Dominguez Jr. of Crane, TX and Miguel Dominguez and wife Stephanie of Odessa, TX; two daughters: Diana Tarpley of Kilgore, TX and Belinda Smith and husband Brian of Kilgore, TX; five brothers: Dimo Marquez and wife Hilda of Ft. Stockton, TX, Ofrael Marquez and wife Sally of Monahans, TX, Romio Marquez of Monahans, TX, Jaime Marquez of Monahans, TX and Alfonso Marquez of Ojinaga, MX; five sisters: Alicia Silvas and husband Juan of Ft. Stockton, TX,  Naomi Salamanca and husband Martin of Ft. Stockton, TX, Ney Gallardo and husband Cesar of Odessa, TX, Rachel Lucero of Portales, NM and Margarita Lucero of Portales, NM; and thirteen grandchildren: Jordan, Danielle, Delaney, Lauren, Kaleb, Haili, Angel, Brison, Brody, Savannah, Samantha, Zayden, Sydnie and soon to be here Mackenzie.

She is preceded in death by her parents:  Ramon and Guadalupe Marquez.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Family Services Funeral Parlor. Interment will follow at 2:00 pm, Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Tamarisk Cemetery in Grandfalls, TX with Brother Roberto Moreno officiating. Pallbearers include:  Danny Lucero, Pedro Cavazos, Jessie Joe Cavazos, Jesus Lucero, Moico Rodriguez, and Homer Marquez. Hector Marrufo Jr.

Hector Marrufo Jr., of Wink, TX, passed from this life on Thursday, June 12, 2014, surrounded by loved ones. Hector Jr. was the son of Hector and Rozanna Marrufo of Wink, TX.

You were the answer to our prayer, and we waited your birth with joyful expectation.  You were our precious little one.  Here for such a brief time, you showed us that life is indeed a gift no matter how brief, no matter how fragile, your presence was our gift and we will hold you in our lives and heart forever.

Those left to cherish his memory include his parents: Hector and Rozanna (Garcia) Marrufo of Wink, TX; four brothers: Lucas Marrufo, Adrian Aranda, Derek Marrufo, and Daniel Marrufo; one sister: Larissa Marrufo of Wink, TX; grandparents: Robert and Rosa Marrufo of Wink, TX and Raul and Hilda Lara of Kermit, TX.

He was preceded in by his grandparents: Pola and Domingo Garcia.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father John Lucido officiating. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Marshall Jackson Haynes

Marshall Jackson Haynes, age 88, passed from this life on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, TX. He was born on October 16, 1925 in Stephenville, TX to Marlin Jackson Haynes and Hazel (Elston) Haynes. He was a truck driver.

Marshall was a loving man who enjoyed family trips, gatherings and playing board games with relatives.  He drove a truck for 21 years for Permian Corp. He enjoyed going on camping trips every summer to Ft. Davis. He will always be remembered as a “People Person” that was loved by everyone.

Those left to cherish his memory are his companion: Faye Eastman Haynes of Wink, TX; four sons: George Edward Wilcox and wife Judy of Cameron, TX, Clifford Haynes and J.R. Haynes and wife Daniela, both of Wink, and Jimmy Haynes of Silsbee, TX; two daughters: Sandy K. McIver of Abilene, TX, Carla Joe Harper and husband Mike of Crane, TX, and two that were like second family, Yvonne Whitehead and husband Bobby of Kermit and Carline Hawkins and husband Ronnie of Wink; four brothers: Rosco Haynes and wife Peggy of Andrews, TX, Billy Don Haynes and wife Sue of MI, Leon Haynes and wife Dorris and Jimmy Haynes, both of Novis, TX; numerous  grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Those there to meet him at the heavenly gates include his wife: Maxine Lofton Haynes; mother and father: Hazel and Marlin Haynes; two sons: Gary Lee Haynes and Floyd Haynes; and one sister: Melba Jay Hudson.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 am, Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Family Services Funeral Chapel with Brother Stan Huffty officiating. Pallbearers: Jeremy Akin, Jason Haynes, Justin Haynes, Shane Haynes, Isaac Haynes, Josh Haynes, Cody Haynes, Chad Haynes, Michael Harper, Lance Wilcox and Casey Harper. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Bertha Pitchford
Bertha Mae "Tinnie" Pitchford

Bertha Pitchford, age 80, of Kermit, passed from this life on Saturday July 12, 2014 in Odessa, TX. She was born in Tioga, LA on September 26, 1933 to Abram and Bertha (Dukes) Dunbar.

“Tinnie” as she was known to her family and many friends was a very loving and caring woman. Bertha enjoyed decorating for every holiday and loved arts and crafts.  She could often be found tending her garden.  Many days she could be found doing work for Grace Temple Baptist Church where she was a member for many years.  She will always be remembered for her kind and generous heart. 

Those left to cherish her memory include her two sons: Austin Cook and wife Murrell of Longview, TX; and Glenn Pitchford and wife Leaoma of Midland, TX.; daughter: Pamela Halsey and husband Daryl of Lubbock, TX; two brothers: Mr. and Mrs. John C. Dunbar of Oklahoma City, OK; and Jacob Dunbar and wife Dorothy of Stephenville, TX; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Ray Pitchford; parents: Abram and Bertha Dunbar; brother: Abram Dunbar Jr.; and two sisters:  Katherine Honeycutt and Mary Youngblood.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Grace Temple Baptist Church in Kermit, TX with Pastor Steve Owen officiating. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Pallbearers will include: James Sharp, Ricky Nelson, Johnny Lalonde, Todd Warner, Dakota Warner, and Kenneth Cook.  Honorary Pallbearers will include her grandkids and great-grandkids.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Meals -On-Wheels Program.

Mateo Soto
Mateo Guadalupe Soto

Mateo Guadalupe Soto, infant son of Marcos Antonio Soto and Marisela Rubio, went to be in the arms of Jesus on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Winkler County Hospital. He blessed our lives during his brief 5 month journey here on earth. He was born on January 29, 2014 in Odessa, TX. 

Mateo was a cheerful, happy baby boy that loved playing with his brothers.  He will be remembered for his big smile, beautiful spirit and contagious laughter. 

Mateo is survived by his parents: Marisela Rubio and Marcos Soto of Kermit; four brothers: Marco Antonio Soto and Miguel Antonio Soto, both of Kermit, Aaron Soto and Christopher Campos, both of Odessa; paternal grandparents: Martina Soto, Angel Soto and wife Adelaida, all of Kermit; maternal grandfather: Sergio Rubio of Mexico; paternal great-grandparents: Antonio and Berta Marquez of Midland; maternal great-grandmother: Refujia Olivas of Artesia; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. 

He is preceded to his heavenly home by his paternal great-grandfather: Jesus Soto; maternal grandmother: Maria G. Salazar; maternal great-grandfather: Pablo Olivas; and one uncle: Sammy Salazar. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Monday, July 21, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Rudy Lacerna officiating.  Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Raymond D Thomas Jr
Raymond Don Thomas, Jr.

Raymond Don Thomas, Jr. was born on January 27, 1963 in Haskell, TX and passed into a pain free Heaven on July 17, 2014 at his home in Loving County, TX at the age of  “Forty-Eleven” (51). 

He leaves behind a large family to remember and carry on. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife: Mary Nell Haley Thomas of Loving County; one daughter: Robyn and husband Shay Wood of Midland; one son: Marcus of Midland; father: Raymond Don Thomas, Sr. of Wink and mother: Margaret Rose Thomas of Wink: four brothers: Randy Thomas and wife Phyllis of Wink, Ronnie Thomas and children of Wink, Wayland Thomas and wife Kay and children of Lake Whitney, Gerald Thomas and children of Wink; one aunt: Joyce Weir of Dallas and several cousins. 

Raymond loved and was very proud of his brother’s children and their children and enjoyed spending time with them, especially at Christmas when he could buy presents. 

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: M.A “Tom” Thomas and Ozella Thomas and maternal grandparents: Herman and Philomena Friske. 

Raymond started school in Rule, TX then the family moved to West Texas where he graduated from Wink High School. He worked as hard as he played. Some of the places he worked were: Howard’s Texaco, Burn’s Electric, Brown Electric, his own Del Star Electric and was working for TESSCO until his health prevented him from continuing. He made lifelong friends along the way and to name a few would not do justice to the rest. He considered ya’ll his extended family. 

He had a full and adventurous life including race cars and motorcycles. He enjoyed NASCAR, pool, shuffleboard, gambling, Crown, gardening and Marlboro Lights, but his true passions were hunting and fishing. Above everything else, he loved his family, most of all his two children of whom he was extraordinarily proud.  

Raymond fought a hard, seven year battle with cancer and with the help of Home Hospice was much relieved the last few days. When his body failed, he decided he would beat his cancer and it would damn well die with him. Raymond said he might not be here to enjoy it but he would win.  

We invite you to join us at the victory celebration of Raymond’s life on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the house in Loving County. We will begin at 10:00 am and lunch will follow.

Reva Alicia Hernandez

Reva Alicia Hernandez, age 27, of Odessa, was unexpectedly called to heaven on July 23, 2014. She was born to Delia Blakeney on August 20, 1986 in Sonora, TX. Reva was a cosmetologist at Smart Styles in Midland.

A very happy person, you always found her smiling. Reva was willing to help anyone and everyone. She liked being around her family. A true “Redneck gal”, Reva was a good friend, sister, daughter and mom – a person who anyone loved being around.

Those left to cherish her love and precious memories are her mother: Delia Blakeney of Odessa, her daughter: Emma McKenzie Hernandez of Odessa, brother: Adrian Hernandez and wife Christine Phillips and their son, Adrian Michael, Jr., all of Kermit, sisters: Amanda Hernandez and her children, Megan Lynn Hernandez, Madyson Denise Moore and Nevaeh Olivia Moore all of Odessa and sister: Leeann Blakeney and her son, Eric Rivera, Jr.,  both of Odessa.

Viewing will begin 1:00pm, Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Family Services Funeral Parlor in Kermit with graveside services scheduled for 10:00 am, Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Kermit Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Eddie Whitefield.

Manuel L Marrufo
Manuel Losoya Marrufo

Manuel Losoya Marrufo, of Wink, age 71, passed from this life on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on July 3, 1943 in Barstow, TX to Antonio Salazar Marrufo and Elvira (Losoya) Marrufo. He was Catholic. 

Manuel was a very big, strong and intelligent man.  He was an avid collector of coins, who was known for sharing his knowledge with others. Many of his conversations would end with him telling others what type of coins they should look for when they received their change at the store.  In his spare time, he would use his metal detector to search for coins and hidden treasures. He enjoyed reading books and was a real history buff that loved learning about the Civil War. Music and playing the guitar were two of his favorite past times. He really enjoyed playing Merle Haggard and Hank Williams Sr. songs. He lived in Wink, Texas and attended Wink High School. Above all, Manuel loved his grandchildren and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.  

Those left to cherish his memory include his two sons: Gilbert Marrufo and wife Jessica from Austin, TX  and Jeremy Marrufo from Odessa, TX; three daughters: Tammy Bara and husband Malcolm of San Antonio, TX,  Jenifer Marrufo and Melissa Marrufo, both of Round Rock, TX; four brothers: Robert Marrufo and wife Rosenda of Wink, TX, Ernest Marrufo of Wink, TX, Paul Marrufo and wife Rosa of Corpus Christi, TX and  Albert Marrfuo and wife Abigail of Wink, TX; one sister: Maria Luisa Abila of Wink, TX and seven grandchildren: Jordan Marrufo, Kasey Balerio, Adrian Bara, Nicholas Bara, Jason Marrufo, Scarlett Marrufo and Victoria Marrufo.  

He is preceded in death by his wife: Eulalia Marrufo and his parents: Antonio and Elvira Marrufo.   

A Rosary will be said at 7:00 pm, Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Family Services Funeral Parlor. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am, Monday, August 4, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Rudy Lacerna officiating. Pallbearers include: Javier Marrufo, Arnie Marrufo, Fabian Marrufo, Emilio Marrufo, Isaac Dominguez, Jordan Marrufo and Nicholas Villanueva. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.

Tim Henry Carter

Tim Henry Carter, 56, of Kermit, passed away on August 2, 2014 in Midland, TX. He was born to Owen and June Carter on December 1, 1957 in Pampa, TX. He graduated from Kermit High in 1976 and resided in Kermit for 55 yrs. 

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife Keri of 21 years, daughter: Lindsay and husband Kelly Kopp of Tulsa, OK; son: Trey and wife Abby Jennings of Kermit; son: Tim “Garrett” Carter of Tulsa, OK; son: Jared Sims of Midland, TX and sister: Susie Carter of Tulsa, OK. 

He had three beautiful granddaughters: Brennen, Avery and Acelyn and four awesome grandsons: Chase, Taegan, Mathias and Ryan and another expected in December. Tim had numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and his beloved fat dog Tina. 

Tim was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Lisa Carter. 

Tim was a welder by profession and an avid hunter who dearly loved his family and friends. He had an enormous towering stature and unique demeanor. He will never be forgotten by the lives he touched with his wit and wisdom. 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at “break time” 3:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church of Kermit with Rev. Dr. Ruth Fowler officiating, followed by the burial at Kermit Cemetery.  Pallbearers include: Mike Chance, Israel Garcia, Mike Sweeten, Troy Ratliff, Karl Q. Kizer, Jerry Cagle, Steve Foutz and Albert Cabello.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Gloria Cortez Soltero

Gloria Cortez Soltero, of Edom, age 58, passed from this life on Monday, August 4, 2014 in Edom, TX. She was born on September 26, 1955 in Kermit, TX to Anacleto and Ricarda (Cortez) Soltero . She was Catholic.

Gloria was a special and loving person with a very large heart. She loved music and dancing. She attended Kermit Opportunity School.

Those left to cherish her memory include her two brothers: Rito Soltero and wife Linda of Wink, TX and Luis Soltero and wife Anabella of Kermit, TX; three sisters: Salia (Sally) McAlister and husband Larry of Streetman, TX, Teresa Trejo and husband Carlos of Edom, TX and Virginia Medrano and husband Hector of Ben Wheeler, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother: Francisco Soltero and one niece: Nadia Cravens; and one nephew:  Dario Soltero.

The Rosary will be held on Thursday, 7:00 pm, August 7, 2014 at Family Services Funeral Parlor.  Mass of Christian Burial is 10:00 am, Friday, August 8, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Rudy Lacerna officiating. Pallbearers will include Carlos Trejo Jr., Zachary Muniz, Angel Medrano, Louie Soltero, Jaime Martinez and Andy Soltero. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jody Soltero, Jeremy Soltero, Timmy Cravens and Ryan Walker. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.

Royce James Dunn 

Royce James Dunn 
Royce James Dunn, age 71, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 in Kermit, TX. He was born in Elmore City, OK on April 6, 1943 to Oliver and Pearl (Buckner) Dunn.Royce married Glenda York on August 25, 1961 in Artesia, NM and they celebrated 52 years together before his death.

Royce was a man who enjoyed sharing the gospel with others. He was an elder in his church and loved God with all his heart. Royce enjoyed singing and playing the guitar and organ. When he had free time, he would go hunting and camping. He collected many antiques. He collected many antiques. He was an Election Judge for many years in Winkler County and spent many years working in the oil field as a Field Manager of Maintenance.  He savored the time he spent with his grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife: Glenda Dunn of Kermit, TX; one son: Royce Brenton Dunn and wife Elayne of Ft. Worth, TX; one daughter: Jana Dunn – Huff and husband Warren of Midland, TX; one brother: Alton Dunn and wife Peggy of Jal, NM; one sister: Karon Moffett of Las Cruces, NM; seven grandchildren: Charlize, Karley, Abigail, Alex, Jaiden, Zoe and Aria.

He was preceded in death by his: parents; one brother: Doyle Dunn and one sister: Loretta Bond.
Funeral Services were held at 1:00 pm, Monday, August 11, 2014 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit, TX with Rev. Richard Davis officiating. Interment was at Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers included: Jonathan Hogue; Randall Dunn; Steve Harless; Bryan Duncan; Aaron Jennings and Daniel Jennings; Mini Pallbearers included his grandsons: Alex Huff and Jaiden Huff.

Rita Ellen Taylor

Rita Ellen Taylor, age 63, passed from this life on August 8, 2014 in Kermit, TX. She was born in Wichita, KS on June 28, 1951 to Delbert and Doris (Socolofsky) Wolf.  

Rita was a very active member in her church especially with plays and musical performances. She was also known for her baked goods and pies. Rita was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. On Memorial Day, she could be found honoring Veterans, by placing flags out at the cemetery. Rita married John Taylor in Kermit on July 17, 1991 and they celebrated 23 years together before her death. 

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband: John Taylor of Wink, TX; two daughters: Kelly Griffith and husband Lonnie of Wichita and Roquelle Blanchet; one brother: James Wolf and wife: Margie of Houston, TX and four grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother: Darrell and one sister: Judy Story.

Memorial Services will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, August 16, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Wink, TX with Brother Richard Ray officiating.   Honorary Pallbearers will include: Ryan Dennis, Richard Ray, Raymond Dodd, Shane Youngblood, Chris Neil, Doc Pearce, Nick Sterling and Wes Briscoe. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: First Baptist Church, 217 North Cross Ave., Wink, TX 79789.

Joseph Vincient Vastine "Joey" Cox

Joseph Vincient Vastine Cox, age 55, passed from this life on August 17, 2014 in Kermit, TX. He was born in Kermit, TX on June 2, 1959 to Wade T. and Louise (Hunt) Cox. He is a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Kermit, TX.

Joseph loved reading, drama, acting and dancing. He had an opportunity to travel worldwide with his favorite stop being Paris. “Joey,” as many called him, was voted the “Wittiest” in his senior class and graduated from Kermit High in 1977.

Those left to cherish his memory include his mother: Louise Cox of Kermit, TX; grandmother: Johnnie Mae Cook, of Kermit, TX; one brother: Wade L. Cox and wife Vanessa of Gonzales, LA; two sisters: Carolyn A. Cox and Cecilia Cox-Hayes both of Kermit, TX; two nephews: Little Wade and Little Joe; three nieces: Tonya, Cassandra and Justine; four great-nephews: Julian, Ramon, Jamarcus and Tavaris;  and two great-nieces: Malaiya and Paris.

He is preceded in death by his father: Wade T. Cox; grandmother: Ethel Cox; two uncles: Vastine Cox and Santa Anna Cox; two Aunts: Mary Ann Thompson and Augustine Phoenix.

A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit with Brother Bill Tatum officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will include: Windell Terry, Ramon Urquidi, Julian Hayes-Urquidi, Ramon Urquidi, Jamarcus Hayes, Little Joe Cox, Little Wade Cox and Tavaris Cox.
