J Mayberry
Jimmy Dale “Jim” Mayberry

Jimmy Dale “Jim” Mayberry, age 66, of Wink, went home to be with his heavenly father on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, TX. He was born March 25, 1947 in McLeansboro, Illinois to Wilburn and Edna Roberta (Franklin) Mayberry. Jim married his forever Valentine, Shelley (Walker) Mayberry on February 14, 1992 in Odessa, TX. He was a hard working man that never missed a day of work and even showed up on his days off.  He retired as Postmaster at the Kermit Post Office, with 33 years of service with the United States Postal Service. He then worked 7 years for the West Texas State Bank as a bank teller. As a retiree who just wouldn’t slow down, Jim also helped us out here at Family Services and at Acres West in Odessa for many years. He was truly a part of our family.

Jim was known as a straight forward and very family oriented man. He believed strongly in supporting his family and it showed in his actions. His daughter Teresa remembers how he always made sure that she was well taken care of and how he always called her “Precious Baby Angel”. He never missed any events that his kids and grandkids would participate in. He strongly encouraged his family to do their very best. His mother was his world and caused the twinkle in his eyes.  It was nothing for him to drive 17 hours home to spend time with her. During his many trips to Illinois, he would drive around to look at the new homes and during the holiday season he enjoyed the Christmas lights.  Jim was notorious for disappearing.  He was not one to sit at the house but enjoyed being out in public. Two of Jim’s favorite things were Dr. Pepper and Peppermints. He would often spend time with his “coffee buddies” at Jerry’s café. One of Jim’s favorite buddies was “Mean Dean” and Jim thought the world of him. He will always be remembered for popping up at his mother-in-law’s house with a cheerful, “Hi Granny!” Jim had a great memory and always remembered special events. One way he expressed his affection for his grandchildren was through the special nicknames that he gave them. It is with a sad heart that we say good bye to our beloved Jim. However, the fond memories we have of him bring us great comfort and a smile.

He is survived by wife of almost 22 years: Shelley Mayberry of Wink, TX; one son: Sheldon Claborn and wife Lindy of Sweetwater, TX; three daughters: Teresa Trumbley and husband Dave of Pittsburg, Il, Lisa Claborn of Odessa, TX, and Kenna Townsley and husband Justin of Odessa, TX; three sisters: Sheila Shaw of Wayne City, Il, Donna Smith of Odessa, TX and June Sanders of Houston, TX; and six grandchildren: Bryson Claborn, Haven Townsley, Cooper Claborn, Brayden Claborn, Ella Claborn and MaKala Butler.

Those preceding him in death are his father and mother: Wilburn and Edna Roberta Mayberry and one brother: Gale Mayberry.

Viewing will start at 1:00 pm, Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Family Services Funeral Chapel. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Monday, December 23, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Wink, TX with Brother Steve Ramirez officiating. Pallbearers will include: Jerry Phillips, Ms. Jerrie Rosch, Teddy Baremore, Tommy Smith, Roy Richardson and Bill Hefner.
