J Willis
Joyce Marie Willis

Joyce Marie Willis, age 70, of Jal, NM, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013 in Midland, TX. She was born July 25, 1942, in Jal, NM to Clyde and Thelma (Sims) Cooper.

Joyce was really known for her wonderful quilts and she was a former member of a quilting club in Jal. She loved doing crafts such as painting, crocheting, and sewing.  She enjoyed shopping for fabric and clothes.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband: George Willis of Jal, NM; two sons: Nat Willis and wife Darla of Jal, NM and Kent Willis and wife Tapatha of Jal, NM; one sister: Elena Grobe and husband Bill of Jal, NM; four grandchildren: Brandon and wife Rebekah Willis, Zachary Willis, Natalya Willis and Andrea Willis; and one great-grandchild: Monalea Willis.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Clyde and Thelma Cooper.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm (MST) Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the Church of Christ in Jal, NM with Brother Daryl Micham officiating. Pallbearers will be: Brandon Willis, Zachary Willis, Pradip Bhakta, Albert Sepeda, Ruben Ramos, and James Padgett. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jack Hedgpeth and Bill Grobe.  Interment will follow at Cooper Cemetery in Jal, NM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, PO Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018.

Socorro Carrasco Dominguez

Socorro Carrasco Dominguez, age 68, of Kermit, Texas passed from this life on Wednesday, March 13, 2013. She was born September 12, 1944 to Jesus and Elvira (Tarin) Carrasco.

Socorro was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit.  With her outgoing personality, she was a friend to everyone. Her special nickname was “Sokie”.  She was a loving grandmother who enjoyed baking, knitting and crocheting.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband: Carmen Urias Dominguez of Kermit, TX; two sons: Eraldo Dominguez and wife Margie of Kermit, TX and Lieutenant Edualdo Dominguez of Austin, TX; one daughter: Elvira Dominguez of Austin, TX; one brother: Pete Carrasco and wife Arabela of Kermit, TX; three grandchildren: Monica Porras and husband Miguel, Fabian Dominguez and Dominic Dominguez; one great-grandchild: Damian Porras.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Jesus and Elvira Carrasco.

Rosary will be prayed at 7 pm, Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Family Services Funeral Parlor.  Mass of Christian burial will be, 2 pm, Monday, March 18, 2013 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit officiated by Father Lacerna. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery in Kermit, TX.   Pallbearers will include: Dominic Dominguez, Fabian Dominguez, Ray Carrasco, Ervey Carrasco, Adrian Carrasco and Arnaldo Carrasco. Honorary Pallbearers will be: J.J. Carrasco, Miguel Porras, Freddie Carrasco, Abel Carrasco and Adam Carrasco.

R Rivera
Rolando Marquez Rivera

Rolando Marquez Rivera, age 20, was reunited with his grandmother in heaven on Sunday, March 17th, 2013. He was born on Saturday, July 11, 1992 in Midland to Socorro Rivera and Luz Maria (Marquez) Rivera. He worked for Atlas Oil Service.

Rolando was an all around good guy who had an infectious smile. He enjoyed spending his time just “Cruising” and loved hot rods.  He was always acting goofy and his friends and family loved spending time with him. One of Rolando’s last wishes was to travel to Amarillo and place flowers at his grandmother’s grave site and today he is reunited with his grandmother in Heaven. Rolando’s big smile and big heart will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his parents: Socorro and Luz Maria Rivera of Kermit, TX; two sisters: Mireya Rivera of Kermit and Miriam Rivera of Lubbock, TX; one nephew: Damian Rivera of Kermit; Aunts, Uncles and a host of friends.

Those that were there to greet him at the gates were: his grandparents: Socorro Rivera and Ana Maria (Flores) Rivera.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 20th, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Rudy Lacerna officiating. Pallbearers will be Osvaldo Marquez, Andres Rivera, Abram Saenz, Pablo Marquez Jr., Andy Montoya, Ruben Rivera Jr., Jose Campos and David Carrasco. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery. Shannon Elaine (Evans) Bishop

Shannon Elaine (Evans) Bishop, age 33, of Kermit, passed away Saturday, March  23, 2013 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. She was born October 21, 1979, in Kermit, TX to Steven and Dreama (Hoscher) Evans.

Shannon was a creative person who loved to draw, read and listen to music.  She was a great cook and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  Shannon was known for her love of unicorns.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband:  Michael Bishop of Kermit; two sons: Lee Hartman and Christian Hartman of Kermit; daughter: Keysha Evans of Midland; father:  Steven Evans and wife Connie of Kermit; mother:  Dreama Scott and husband David of Columbus, OH; four sisters:  Marie Michelle Evans of Columbus, OH; Alisha Ann Evans of Kermit; Kimberly Kay Evans of Kermit; and Jennifer Scott of Columbus, OH; grandmother: Marie Epihano of Lorainem, OH and great-grandmother: Jenny Amos of OH.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Harold and Venita (Slaughter) Evans and great-grandparents:  Herman and Dovie Slaughter.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Friday, March  29, 2013 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit, TX with Brother Dudley Mullins officiating. Pallbearers will be: Steve Evans, Bill Evans, Chris Smithhart, Michael Bishop, Christian Hartman, and Lee Hartman.  Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery in Kermit, TX.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor. 

H FULFER
Henry Hugh Fulfer

Henry Hugh Fulfer, age 88, of Jal, NM, passed from this life on Monday, March 25, 2013 in Jal, NM. He was born February 8, 1925 in Hannibal, TX to Bert Fulfer and Dove (McInroe) Fulfer.  

Henry graduated in 1942 at Huckabee High School and enlisted in the U.S. Naval Service in 1944 in Stephenville, TX. He married the love of his life, Billie Faye (Jones) Fulfer, in 1956 in Hobbs, NM and they celebrated 57 years together. Henry worked as an electrician for El Paso Natural Gas for many years until starting his own business in 1982. Henry had many hobbies which included fishing, hunting and most of all, taking care of his cows. He was a great man who will be missed dearly by all who knew him. 

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife: Billie Faye Fulfer of Jal, NM; two sons: Perry Fulfer and wife Sheryl and Gregg Hugh Fulfer and wife Kim, all of Jal; two daughters: Sandra Faye Kuykendall and husband Charlie and Cheryl Chance, all of Jal; one sister: Edna Kuykendall of La Crescenta, CA; grandchildren: Shalena Morgan, Bryan Inglet, Matt and Daina Inglet, Rowdy and Bridgot Fulfer, Cory and Wendy Fulfer, Chris Chance, Misty and Jorge Torres, Kristin and Cody Abel, Kayla and Emmanuel Lujan and Michelle and Gary Spillman; great-grandchildren: Tyler and Michelle Richey, Amber Reed, Justin Inglet, Taylor Inglet, Colton Inglet, Cassie Inglet, Madison Inglet, Chelsea Fulfer, Cameron Fulfer, KC Taylor, Kimberly Taylor, Kolby Taylor, Ella Torres, Haylee Abel, Stratten Abel, Stetsen Abel, Saxten Abel, Jacob Lujan, Zadyn Lujan, Kaedyn Lujan, Luke Spillman and Shelby Spillman; and great-great grandchild: Fallon Inglet. He is also survived by multiple cows and dogs. 

He was preceded in death by his parents: Bert and Dove Fulfer; four brothers: Elvis, Tuck, Elmo and Ralph Fulfer; and four sisters: Bernice Stewart, Mildred Moring, Inez Gordon and Barbara Kay. 

Funeral Services will be 10:00 am (MST) Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the Church of Christ in Jal, NM with Brother Daryl Micham officiating. Pallbearers will be: Rowdy Fulfer, Cory Fulfer, Chris Chance, Tyler Richey, Matt Inglet and Charlie Kuykendall. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Larry Burns, Bobby Wells, Carroll Leavell and Frank Frame.  Interment will follow at Jal Cemetery in Jal, NM. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the New Mexico Christian Children’s Home in Portales located at 1356 NM 236 Portales, NM 88130.

Glenice Fay Flora

Glenice Fay Flora, age 72, passed from this life on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at her residence in Kermit. She was born on December 5, 1940 in Grainger, TX to Ralph Walker and Fay (Smith) Walker. She married the late Morris Arnold Flora in Austin, TX on March 24, 1958, and they celebrated 52 wonderful years until his passing in 2010. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses.

Glenice loved reading the Bible. She enjoyed spending her time crocheting and working on the computer and was an excellent cook. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory include three sons: Ricky Flora and wife Karolyn of Carlsbad, NM, Ronald (Bug) Flora and Samuel Flora, both of Kermit; two daughters: Darla Skeen and Glynda Coleman and husband Mark, all of Kermit; two half brothers: Lonny Buck and wife Joanie of Bastrop, TX and Leslie Buck and wife Carolyn of Ingram, TX; grandchildren: Jennifer Rico, Amanda Flora, Dustin Weddle, Dawson Flora, John Flora, Krissy Flora, Kaity Flora, Marissa Coleman, Mari Coleman and William Skeen; and seven great- grandchildren

Those preceding her in death include: her husband, parents, and one half brother: Charlie Buck.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Psalm 23 Cemetery in Winkler County officiated by Jeremy Sanchez. Pallbearers will include: Bug Flora, Dawson Flora, Samuel Flora, Ricky Flora, Mark Coleman and John Flora. Services are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Melvin Joe Covington

Melvin Joe Covington, age 50, of Kermit,TX, passed from this life on Sunday, April 14, 2013 in Odessa, TX. He was born August 21, 1962 in Monahans, TX to Earl and Sewellow (Alexander) Covington.

Melvin was a fun loving guy that loved to play games.  He was fond of playing dominoes, cards and gambling.  Family was important to Melvin and he loved the time he spent with his grandkids.  Melvin was also a hard worker who spent his life working in the oilfield.  He was a great man who will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife: Telma Covington of Kermit; step-son: Chris Garcia of Kermit; step-daughter: Valerie Valles and husband Julio of Kermit; four brothers:  Richard Covington and wife Barbara of Monahans, TX, Robert Covington and wife Catherine of Lubbock, TX, Elbert Covington and wife Evergreen of Columbus, GA, Louis Covington and wife Cathy of Monahans, TX;  five sisters:  Rose Mary Edwards of Austin, TX, Earl Dean Garrett of Lubbock, TX, Betty Sue Hayes of Monahans, TX, Ruby Ramsey of Lubbock, TX and Kathy Smalls of Lubbock, TX; eight grandchildren:  Iris Garcia, Jaime Larez JR., Sandy Valencia, Anthony Brown, Audrey Brown, Jaden Valles, Juelz Valles, Zoey Valles.

He was preceded in death by his parents:  Earl and Sewellow Covington; brother: Earl Covington Jr.; and two sisters: Louise Bunton, and Linda Thomas.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Monahans with Rev. Jeppie Wilson officiating. Pallbearers will be: Sammy Garcia, Domingo Garcia, Joey Garcia, Ricky Garcia, Richard Covington Jr., Robert Covington Jr., Elbert Covington Jr., and Bruce Ramsey Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Andre Covington, W.F. Garrett, Larry Thomas Jr., “Parker”, Eric Jones, Carlos, Christopher Ramsey, and Dexter Garrett.  Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery in Kermit, TX.

Feliciano Berzoza Pedraza Jr.

Feliciano Berzoza Pedraza Jr., age 86, of Kermit, Texas passed from this life on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Andrews Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born April 6, 1927 in Knox, TX to Feliciano Pedraza Sr. and Candelaria Berzoza Pedraza.  

Feliciano was an all around good man who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was known as a hardworking man who worked for the City of Kermit for over 25 years (1963-1989). He was a loving grandfather and great-grandfather. He was called “Chano” by all his friends. He was a member of the Lions Club, the Catholic Church, and the De Colores service organization.  

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his son: Jose A. Pedraza of Kermit, TX; one daughter: Maria Guadalupe Montoya of Kermit, TX; five grandchildren: Arely Payen and husband Jose, Arleen Pedraza and husband Omar Gomez, Jose A. Pedraza Jr., Andy Montoya and wife Nancy and Jose Montoya Jr. all of Kermit, TX; five great-grandchildren: Jose, Jocelyn, Omar, Osmar and Andres. 

He was preceded in death by his wife: Maria (Armendariz) Pedraza and his parents. 

Rosary was said, 7 pm, Friday, April 19, 2013 at Family Services Funeral Chapel.  Mass of Christian burial was held at 2 pm, Saturday April 20, 2013 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit, officiated by Father John Lucido.  Pallbearers included: Jose Pedraza Jr., Andy Montoya, J.R. Montoya, David Ramos, Omar Gomez and Jose Payen. Interment followed at Kermit Cemetery in Kermit, TX.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Ernest Doyle Bradford

Ernest Doyle Bradford, age 74, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at his home in Kermit, Texas.  He was born December 2, 1938 in Cass County, Texas.

He is survived by his wife:  Jimmy Jack Bradford; one daughter:  Robbie Bradford of Dallas; three step-daughters:  Kathleen Story of Midland, Laura Young and husband Jeff of Conway, AR, Evelyn Coppage and husband Chris of Tampa, FL; four sisters:  Peggy Houtchens and husband Bob of Seminole, Melba Turner and husband Charles of Georgetown, TX, Pam Broadway of College Station, ReMona Cherry and husband Preston of Kermit, and three grandchildren. 

He is preceded in death by his parents:  Ernest Reffer Bradford and Mona Rae Stubbs Bradford Galt, and one brother:  Larry W. Bradford.

He is also survived by three lifelong friends:  Bobby Simpkins, “Cowboy” Davis, and Jay Dupuy, all of Odessa.

No services are scheduled.

Family and friends visitation will be on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 113 North Ave. D, Kermit, TX from 3-6 PM.

W Smith
William “Bill” Lee Smith

William “Bill” Lee Smith, age 82, of Kermit, passed from this life on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the Hospice House in Odessa, TX. He was born September 28, 1930 to C. W. Smith and Lola Lee (Bugg) Smith.

Bill attended college in Durant, OK where he was a member of the rodeo team. Bill proudly served his county in the US Army during the Korean War and served as post commander for the VFW Post # 6284 on three separate occasions. He married Eva Marie (Preast) Smith in September 2007 in Lovington, NM. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. 

Those left behind to cherish is memory are his wife: Eva Smith of Kermit; one son: Jimmy L. Smith of Whitney, TX; and one grandson: Justin Lee Smith of Dallas, TX. 

He was preceded in death by his first wife: Letha Lucille Smith; parents: C.W. and Lola Smith; and one son: Michael L. Smith. 

Memorial Services will be 10:00 am Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit, TX with Brother Dudley Mullins officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

E Kurtz
Edna G. Kurtz

Edna G. Kurtz, age 91, of Garland, Texas passed peacefully surrounded by her family on April 24, 2013.  She was born to William and Dessie Faust on January 30, 1922 in Allenport, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Mt. Union High School and then attended Shippensburg State University in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania where she received her BS degree.  She did graduate work at Penn State University and University of Louisiana – Lafayette before receiving her Master’s Degree from Texas A&M University – Kingsville.   

Edna’s teaching stops included teaching school in Allenport, Pa., Frankfurt, Germany, Benavides, TX, Alice, TX and lastly in Kermit, TX where she taught for the last 35 years of her 51 year career.  She was incredibly dedicated to the teaching profession and loved her job teaching special education at the elementary school level. She retired from teaching in 1999. 

Edna was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kermit and past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Max Kurtz, whom she wed on September 5, 1945 in Huntingdon, Pa. Also preceded in death were one brother, Richard Faust, and three sisters, Thelma Jones, Helen Adams, and Peggy Rubin.  

She is survived by one son, John and wife Judy Kurtz of Rowlett, TX, and three grandchildren, Ashley Kurtz of Richardson, TX, Weston Kurtz of Rowlett, TX, and Cole Kurtz of Rowlett, TX. 

My mom, Edna Kurtz, was a simple, sweet, and loving person.  The lives that she touched were many and I will always be grateful for the guidance she gave me as a loving parent.  My family and I will cherish the many memories and will miss her dearly.

A graveside memorial will be held 11:30 Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Kermit Cemetery.  Services are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Dorothy Nell (Hall) Preston

Dorothy Nell (Hall) Preston (sometimes known as “Gus”), age 86, passed from this life on Sunday, April 28, 2013 in Monahans, TX. She was born on September 5, 1926 in Whitewright, TX to Benjamin and Mattie Lela (Cook) Hall.

Dorothy moved to Denton, Texas at the age of eleven and attended public school, where she graduated as Valedictorian in 1944. She attended North Texas State University, graduating in August 1947 and moved to West Texas that same year and has been here ever since. She was secretary for Judge W.T. Hair, Don M. Nugent, and for George Finlay and Robert Scogin, all attorneys. She was also secretary at the First United Methodist Church for almost ten years after retiring as legal secretary. She loved to crochet and spend time at the Senior Citizens Center.  Gus enjoyed her church activities, such as playing the piano.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons: Mike Preston of Portsmouth, VA and John Preston of Kermit, TX; one daughter: Patti Clark and husband Bobby of Wink, TX; six grandchildren: Cindy Gomez, Kathy Dutton, Donnie Preston, Phillip Preston, Joni Haynes and Chad Clark; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Bill Preston, preceded her in death in 1996, after nearly 48 years of marriage.  Also preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers: Charles Donald Hall and Morris Eugene Hall.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Kermit Cemetery officiated by Rev. Gene Brown. Pallbearers will include her sons and grandsons.  Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer Foundation of America: 322 8th Ave # 700, New York, NY 10001. Services are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Kary Wayne Owens

Kary Wayne Owens, age 33, of Kermit, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2013 in Odessa, TX. He was born February 6, 1980, in Kermit to Larry and Carolyn (Bale) Owens.

Kary's many talents included playing musical instruments such as the keyboard, guitar and drums. He was also a published poet. He enjoyed cars and motorcycles. He loved being an uncle and spending time with his family. He had a deep love for Jesus.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his father: Larry Owens Sr. of Kermit, TX; one brother: Larry Owens Jr. and wife Roxanne of Kermit, TX; one sister: Stephanie Underwood of Kermit, TX; five nieces: Brooklyn Owens, Kayla Owens, Alyssa Owens, Avery Underwood and Jasmine Owens; three nephews: Brother Underwood, “Lil-O” and Joseph Garcia; four uncles: Charles Emmitt Bale III, Larry Wayne Bale Sr., Jack Horn and Ricky Owens Sr.; five aunts: Ilene Pilkington, Bonita Bale, Betty Horn, Kay Bale and Katrina Owens; as well as plenty of Bale and Owens cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother: Carolyn (Bale) Owens and all of his grandparents. 

Funeral Services will be 10:00 am Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Holy Spirit Oil-Filled Ministry in Kermit, TX with Brother Jackie Redmon officiating. Pallbearers will be: Larry Owens Jr.; Stephanie Underwood; Emmitt Bale; Gary Pilkington Jr.; Larry Bale Jr.; Ricky Owens Jr. and Jesse Pritchard. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Avery Underwood, Jasmine Owens and Irma Aguirre.  Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery in Kermit, TX.
