Joy Maxine Compton

Joy Maxine Compton, age 63, of Kermit passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012 in Odessa, TX. She was born February 21, 1949, in Leachville, AR to Loran and Ruth (Taylor) Abernathy.  She married David Compton in Kermit, on October 10, 1985 and they shared 26 years together.

Joy Maxine was a lover of the outdoors.  She enjoyed gardening and grew beautiful roses. She loved singing, traveling and was known as a great cook. She had an outgoing personality. Family was very important to Maxine. Her presence has touched us deeply and she will always be remembered for her smile that would light up any room she entered.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband:  David Compton of Kermit, TX; six sons: Allen Salmons and wife Jennifer of New Braunfels, TX, Stephen Salmons and wife Melody of Bandera, TX, David Compton Jr. and wife Susan of Hanover, AL, Johnny Compton, Robert Compton and Danny Compton and wife Wendy, all of Sylacauga, AL; three daughters: Michelle Salmons of Midland, TX, Melissa Salmons of Kermit, TX and Linda Turner and husband Randy of Vincent, AL; one brother: Irby Abernathy of Carlsbad, NM; two sisters: Lora Ellen Pogue of Kermit, TX and Diane Abernathy of Coolidge, AZ; twenty-two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by parents: Loran and Ruth Abernathy.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 am Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit, with Chaplain Bryan Johnson officiating. Pallbearers will be: Phillip Abernathy, Jeremy Abernathy, Allen Salmons, Stephen Salmons, Lemuel Salmons, Dathan Pirkey, Danny Compton, Robert Compton and Johnny Compton. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Phillip Preston and Van Compton. Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Rodger Thomas Boner Sr.

Rodger Thomas Boner Sr., age 62, of Kermit passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012 in Kermit, TX. He was born January 29, 1950, in Snyder, TX to Samuel and Elsie (Elmore) Boner. 

Those left behind to cherish his memory are four children:  Greg, Rodger Jr., Brandy and Mendi; one brother: Stanley Boner and wife Peggy; and one sister:  Phyllis Shropshire and husband John. 

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Rodolfo “Rudy” Matta Granado

Rodolfo “Rudy” Matta Granado, age 50, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012 in Kermit, TX. He was born September 13, 1961 in Odessa, TX to Thomas and Mary (Matta) Granado.  Rodolfo married Charlene Wheaton on May 12, 1983 in Odessa and they celebrated 18 years together.

“Rudy”, as he was known by his friends and family, was a very family oriented man. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. In high school he was in the ROTC program. He was a big “Dallas Cowboy” fan and was famous for his BBQ brisket. He loved to ride motorcycles.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife: Charlene Granado of Kermit; four daughters: Jessica Florence and husband Jay of Odessa, Tabatha Sykes and husband Rusty of Gardendale, Rudi Lyn Granado of Kermit, and Sabrina Galindo and husband Jose of Kermit; three brothers: Antonio Granado and wife Aurora of Odessa, Thomas Granado Jr. and wife Emma of Big Springs, and Joe Granado of Odessa; three sisters: Carmen G. Minjarez and husband Prudencio of Odessa, Margaret Gonzales and husband Sipriano of Odessa, and Melba Terry of Odessa; eight grandchildren: Thomas Washington, Sebastian Sykes, Joseph Granado, Nevaeh Harris, Leallanie Harris, Austin Florence, Wyatt Florence and Madison Galindo.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas and Mary Granado; one sister: Mary Louise Granado; and his daughters: Samantha and Melissa Granado.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 am, Monday, June 18, 2012 at the Church of God in Kermit, with Brother Eddie Whitefield officiating.  Interment will be at 2:00 pm, at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery in Odessa, TX.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Pallbearers will be: Jay Florence, Rusty Sykesk, Jose Galindo, James Washington, Marcus Wooten and Robert Rodriquez.  Honorary Pallbearers will be: Joe Granado, Tony Granado, Thomas Granado, Carl Riggs, Sipriano Gonzales and Prudencio Minjarez.

Marian L. Hoff

Marian L. Hoff age 81, of Kermit, TX passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012 in Odessa, TX.  She was born on February 15, 1931 in Gorham, KS to Albert and Verma (Loun) Nowak.  Marian was a member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church. She was very devoted and active in the church. She was a member of the Altar Society and taught religious classes for several years. She enjoyed cleaning the church and cared for the altar lines for 8 years.

Marian loved sewing, making clothes, curtains and drapes.  Although as a homemaker, she rarely had free time, she enjoyed working outside in her garden.  Her children and grandchildren were the love of her life.

Those left to cherish her love and memory include two sons: Steven Hoff and wife Patricia of Kermit, TX and Kevin Hoff of Kermit, TX; one daughter: Susan Hammond and husband Steve of Kermit, TX; six grandchildren: Sabrina Godaire, Melissa Turpin, Amanda Carey, Christina Hammond, Keith Hoff and Reaganne Hoff; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Wilfred Hoff; her parents, five brothers, and two sisters.

Rosary will be said 7:00 pm, Friday, June 15, 2012 at Family Services Funeral Parlor in Stateroom B. 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 2:00 pm Saturday, June 16, 2012 at St. Thomas Catholic Church, officiated by Fr. John Lucido.  Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Alberto B. Carrasco Sr.

Alberto B. Carrasco Sr., age 70, passed away Friday, June 15, 2012 in Odessa, TX.  He was born July 12, 1941 in Redford, TX to Manuel V. Carrasco and Anita (Bejarano) Carrasco.

Albert was dedicated to his job and was known as a hard working man, who enjoyed farming. He loved to hunt, camp, fish and travel.  He was a musician who loved to play the guitar and accordion. He also enjoyed flying a plane.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife: Elodia Carrasco of Kermit, TX; two sons: Benny Carrasco and wife Priscilla of Wink, TX and Albert Carrasco Jr. and wife Consuelo of Kermit, TX; three daughters: Imelda Valdez of Kermit, TX; Grecia Carrasco of Odessa, TX and Camille Carrasco of Kermit, TX; nine grandchildren: Krystal, Jacque, Ernesto, Melissa, Albert III, Alfredo, Krystina, Adamaris and Karyna; two great-grandchildren: Brylen and Ernesto Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and four sisters.

Rosary will be 7:00 pm Monday, June 18, 2012 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit, TX; Mass will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit, TX with Father Waiwood officiating. Pallbearers will be: Ernesto Arreola, Adrian Carrasco, Albert Carrasco III, Rey Carrasco, Alfredo Carrasco, Issac Escobedo, Ervey Carrasco, Juan Gomez Jr. Honorary Pallbearers: Pete Carrasco, Ruben Ramirez, and Raul Marquez. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery in Kermit, TX.

Julie Kay Purcell

Julie Kay Purcell, age 65, of Kermit passed away Saturday, June 23, 2012 in Odessa, TX. She was born Saturday, March 8, 1947, in Kermit to Cleave and Mary Jane (Hovind) Swafford.  She married Jerry Purcell in Wink, TX on July 9, 1971 and they shared 41 years together.

Julie had a vibrant personality. She worked for Winkler and Loving County for almost 20 years; first in the court house, then at the Ag Extension office.  Julie loved all of the 4-H groups she was involved with, especially the kids.  God and church were a very important part of Julie’s life and she began playing the piano as a young girl, believing it was God’s gift to her.  She was the full time pianist at Grace Temple and Belvue Baptist Churches for the last 33 years.  Julie was also fond of her many pets, especially her beloved Joe Friday. 

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband: Jerry; three sons: Cory and wife Brandy of Colorado Springs, CO, Bradly and wife Jennifer of Battle Ground, WA, and Coby and wife Carrie of Wink; one sister: Sue Waugh and husband Mike of Amarillo, TX; eight grandchildren:  Blake and wife Kim; Zach, Sara, Noah, Caleb, Ethan, Cole, and Megan; and one great-grandchild:  Haven.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Cleave and Mary Jane Swafford.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 am Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Belvue Baptist Church in Kermit with Bro. Bill Campbell and Pastor Rob Matney officiating. Pallbearers will be:  Bradly Purcell, Coby Purcell, John Adams, Marc Parks, Alan Fires, and George Keely.  Honorary Pallbearers will  be:Cory Purcell, Robert Roberts, Johnny Lalonde, J.J. Hefner, and Chase Settle.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

 In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Belvue Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.

Charlie Lamar "Bo" Dorman Jr.

Charlie Lamar Dorman Jr., age 42, of Kermit passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012 in Pecos, TX. He was born March 22, 1970 in Meridian, MS to Charlie and Patricia (Jenkins) Dorman. 

 “Bo” as he was known to friends and family was a hard working man who loved to make people laugh.  He enjoyed spending time with his family.  “Bo” spent much of his time in the outdoors where he loved to hunt and fish.  He was also a longtime member of the Grace Baptist Church in Philadelphia, MS.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are mother and step dad:  Patricia Holloway and husband Keith of Jackson, MS; father: Charlie Dorman Sr. of Philadelphia, MS; son: Cody Dorman of Meridian, MS; brother: Freddy Dorman and wife Janice of Kermit, TX; sister: Tammy Snow of Jackson, MS; granddaughter: Rosalee Elaine; nephew: Joseph; nieces: Jaid and Sarah; and great-nieces: Madi, Mackenzie, Macie, Marlee, Lylee.

A family visitation will be 5-8 pm, Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, MS.  Funeral Services will be 10 am, Friday, June 29, 2012 at Chancellor Funeral Chapel in Byram, MS.  Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park South.

Terry Lynn Duncan

Terry Lynn Duncan, age 60, passed away Monday, June 25, 2012 in Kermit, TX.  He was born November 4, 1951 in Merkel, TX to Gerald and Vernie (Watson) Duncan

Terry was dedicated to his job and was known as a hard working man, who enjoyed driving his truck. He loved to fish and handyman.   Terry was a carpenter, with a passion for working with wood.  He enjoyed traveling and seeing the country.  The Dallas Cowboys held a special place in his heart as well as Number 48, Jimmy Johnson on the NASCAR circuit.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife: Debra Duncan of Kermit, TX; one son: Terry Duncan Jr. of Bastrop, TX; two step-sons: Clarence Fowler of Odessa and Chad Fowler and wife Lisa of Odessa; two step-daughters: Teloa Martin and husband Keith of Kermit, and Felicia Fowler and boyfriend Scott Means of Wichita, KS; one brother:  Jerry Duncan and wife Jeannie of Paint Rock, TX; one sister:  Melinda Armstrong of Kermit; six grandchildren: Tabitha, Joshua, Britney, Alex, and Sebastian; five nephews:  Richard, Jerrod, Matthew, Michael, and Kenneth; one niece:  Marsha Simpson; and special friends:  Clyde Simpson, Kevin Fosdick, and Roger Fosdick. 

He was preceded in death by his parents:  Gerald and Vernie Duncan; two brothers:  Chester and Kenneth Duncan; and one granddaughter:  Marissa.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Free Will Baptist Church in Kermit, TX with Rev. Charles Jones officiating. Pallbearers will be: Keith Martin, Clyde Simpson, Roger Fosdick, Jerry Duncan, Jerrod Duncan, Michael Duncan, Mark Taylor and Heath Duncan.  Honorary Pallbearers: Gary Fowler, Chester Richey, Kevin Fosdick, and Charlie Carroll. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery in Kermit, TX.

Francisca Gonzales Carrasco

Francisca Gonzales Carrasco, passed from this life Tuesday, July 3, 2012 in Kermit, TX at the age of 83.  Francisca was born in Pilares, TX on June 5, 1929 to the late Vidal and Maria (Olivas) Gonzales.  She married Teofilo Carrasco on March 19, 1948.  They enjoyed over 59 years together before separated by his death on May 7, 2007. 

Francisca had a deep love for her church, and was a member of the Iglesia Evangelica de Dios en Cristo Jesus. She greatly enjoyed home visits by the preacher. She was a very humble, mild and generous woman.  She was an avid homemaker, loving mother and was known as an excellent cook.  Family was very important to her. She enjoyed growing flowers and working in her garden. Francisca was known as “Tia Pancha”, “Wela” or “KiKa” by her friends and family.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her five sons: Domingo Carrasco, Israel Carrasco and wife Elfida, Enrique Carrasco and wife Nancy, Teofilo Carrasco Jr. and wife Juana, and Alfredo Carrasco and wife Martha all of Kermit, TX; seven daughters:  Socorro Candelas of San Antonio, TX, Adelinda Diaz and husband Jose of Friona, TX, Patricia Olivares and husband Rudy, Manuela Rodriguez and husband Roberto, Lorena Gonzalez and husband Jenaro all of Dallas, Elsa Galaviz and husband Eddie, and Marsha Rocha and husband Ismael all of Friona, TX; three brothers: Doroteo Gonzales and wife Alicia of Van Horn, TX; Jose Gonzales and wife Arcelia of Pilares, MX and Armando Gonzales and wife Luz of Van Horn, TX; thirty-two grandchildren and thirty-seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and beloved husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Friday, July 6, 2012 at Iglesia Evangelica de Dios en Cristo Jesus in Kermit, TX, officiated by Pedro Acosta.   Pallbearers will include: Domingo Carrasco, Israel Carrasco, Enrique Carrasco, Teofilo Carrasco Jr., Alfredo Carrasco, and Gabriel Gonzales. Interment will follow at Kermit, Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor of Kermit.

G. B. Speer

G. B. Speer, age 90, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2012 in Odessa. TX. He was born February 24, 1922 in Poteau, OK to R.S. and Vivian (Qualls) Speer.

G.B. loved to play the guitar and enjoyed singing. While serving in the Navy during WWII, he went to Africa and Sicily. He later continued his military service for his country by joining the Air Force, retiring after 20 years.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife: Mary Speer of Wink, TX; three sons: Lane Speer of Corpus Christi, Jerry Wayne Milligan and wife Claudia of Chandler, TX and Clifford Carl Milligan and wife Evelyn Teague of Wink, TX; seven daughters: Sylvia Ann Murphy and husband Jeff of Joplin, MI, Jane Jones and husband Danny of Casper, WY, Bobbie Louise Johnson and husband Joel of Bloomfield, NM, Molly Jennings and husband Mike of Midland, TX, Patsy Ann Chapman and husband Jimmy of Menard, TX, Sherry Milligan of Kermit, TX and Denise Milligan and her children Josh and Dalton Milligan of Kermit, TX; one brother: Joe Warren and wife Mable of Boulder City, NV; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Donald Jack and Dan Foster; and one sister: Sylvia Masterson.

A Memorial service will be held privately at a later date.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor of Kermit.

Barbara Jeanne Kaley
Barbara Jeanne Kaley, 88, of McKinney, passed away on July 5, 2012 at McKinney Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in McKinney.  She was born in Mounds, OK.  She was a member of First Christian Church in McKinney and the First Methodist Church of Kermit.

She is survived by her daughters:  Terry Kaley Asmus of Ft. Worth and Karen Kaley Gibbons of McKinney; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services are scheduled at 11:30 am Friday, July 27, 2012 at the Kermit Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Smith Family Funeral Homes of McKinney and Family Services Funeral Parlor of Kermit.

Vernon Lee Underwood

Vernon Lee Underwood, age 59, of Kermit passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012 in Odessa, TX. He was born February 13, 1953 in Kermit to James and Eunice (Lofton) Underwood.

Vernon enjoyed riding motorcycles; drag racing; and spending time with his son. He was known as “Pop’s” or Uncle “V” to his many friends and family. He looked forward to his 10:30 coffee time at KHD with the boys. He cherished his wife, granddaughter and dog.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife: Judy Underwood of Kermit; one son: James Underwood and his wife Hallie of Kermit; five brothers: Paul Underwood Jr. and wife Becky of Kermit, Frank Underwood and wife Mary of Kermit, Glen Underwood and wife Marina of Wink; Loyd Underwood of Kermit and Floyd Underwood of Kermit; three sisters: Donnell Dodson and husband John of Kermit, Donna Oldecker of Wink and Linda Wascom and husband Robert of Longview, TX; one grandchild: Addison Pena Underwood and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: James and Eunice Underwood; one brother: Steven Craig Underwood; and his grandparents: George and Effie Lofton.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, July 27, 2012 at Northside Baptist Church in Kermit, TX with Brother Steve Long officiating. Interment will be privately held. Pallbearers will be:  Paul Underwood, Frank Underwood, Glen Underwood, Loyd Underwood, Floyd Underwood, Steve Underwood, Tony Underwood, Chuck Prescott and Terry Jarrett. Honorary Pallbearers will be his numerous friends. Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.
