Juanita Losoya

Juanita Losoya, age 82, passed away Friday, April 1, 2011 in Hobbs, NM. She was born November 25, 1928 in Barstow, TX to Antonio and Maria (Salazar) Marrufo.

Those left behind to cherish her memory include her three sons: Joe Losoya ,Pete Losoya and Marty Losoya, all of Hobbs, NM; six daughters:  Victoria Jimenez of Hobbs, Hortencia Stuckwisch of El Paso, Irma Losoya of Hobbs, Adela Losoya of Billings, MO; Rosalinda Jasso of Hobbs, and Mary Knap of Gillette, WY; five brothers: Albert Marrufo of Wink, Paul Marrufo of Victoria, Ernesto Marrufo of Wink, Robert Marrufo of Wink, and Manuel Marrufo of Wink, one sister: Luisa Abila of Wink, twenty-four grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Pedro Losoya, one son: Amalio, one brother: Jesus, and three sisters: Consuelo, Enriquetta and Genevieve.

Rosary will be said 7:00 pm Monday, April 4, 2011 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit, TX. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit, TX. Pallbearers will be Paul Marrufo, Marcus Marrufo, Damien Valdez, Marty Losoya, Arturo Abila and Brett Autrey. Celebrant will be Father Waiwood. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Mark Allen Slay

Mark Allen Slay, age 58, passed from this life on April 6, 2011. He was born on February 25, 1953 in Evansville, Indiana to James T. and Corrine Edith (Cope) Slay.

Mark enjoyed riding motorcycles, traveling to bike rallies and fishing.

He leaves behind one son: Wayne Allen Slay of OK; one daughter: Laura Bradford and husband Justen of Kermit, TX; five brothers: Jerry Slay of Carmi, IL, James Slay and wife Reta of Cushing, OK, Scott Slay and wife Becky of Hobbs, NM, Gary Slay and wife Diane of Barley, AR, and Pat Slay and wife Penny of Ceaderville, AR; and two grandchildren: Seth Bradford and Christian Bradford.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Edith Slay.

A Memorial motorcycle ride will begin 2:00 pm, Sunday, April 17, 2011 starting at 301 G. P. Mitchell (South Mulberry) and ending at the Pyote Park in Pyote, TX.  Immediately following the memorial ride a memorial service will be held at the Pyote Park.  Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jerry Slay, James Slay, Scott Slay, Gary Slay and Pat Slay, Kevin Hoff, Wayne Slay, Charlie Jones, Justen Bradford and all his biker brothers.

Stevie Oneal Mantooth

Stevie Oneal Mantooth, age 43, of Jal, NM, passed from this life on Saturday, April 9, 2011 in Kermit, TX.  He was born in Frederick, OK on September 1, 1967 to Butterball and Shirley Jean (Beasley) Mantooth. 

Stevie loved riding motorcycles, camping and hunting. He ran his own business cutting firewood.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife: Carol Mantooth of Jal; one son: Billy Jones of Jal; two daughters: Donna Peugh and Julie Jones, both of Jal; his mother: Shirley Holt of Kermit; two sisters: Tonia Snow and husband Ronald of Carlsbad, NM and Carle Kohr and husband Brian of Kermit; four grandchildren: Daniel Jones, Janie Jones, Angel Aldama and Jessie Mendez.

He was preceded in death by his father: Butterball Mantooth and one granddaughter: Olivia Jones.

Graveside services will be 10:00 am MST, Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Jal Cemetery in Jal, NM.  Services will be officiated by Brother Daniel Kowacich.  Honorary Pallbearers will be: Angel Aldama, Darrel Reed, Trey Reed, Daniel Jones, Ronald Snow Jr., Jeremy Snow, Jerry Reed and Billy Jones.

Eulalia Marrufo

Eulalia Dominguez Marrufo, age 63, of Wink, passed from this life on Friday, April 15, 2011 in Round Rock, TX.  She was born in Kermit, TX on March 14, 1948 to Enrique and Margarita (Dominguez) Martinez.  She previously served as a postmaster in Wink.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 43 years: Manuel Marrufo of Wink, TX; two sons: Gilbert Marrufo and wife Jessica of Austin and Jeremy Marrufo of Corpus Christi; and three daughters: Tammy Bara and husband Malcolm of San Antonio, TX; Jennifer Marrufo of Round Rock, TX and Melissa Marrufo of Round Rock, TX; four brothers: Ricky Martinez of San Antonio, TX; Ruben Martinez of Odessa, TX; Manuel Martinez of Midland, TX and Johnny Martinez of Kermit, TX; three sisters: Lorena Juarez of Odessa, TX; Delia Madrid of Odessa, TX and Lisa Ortiz of Kermit, TX and seven grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Enrique and Margarita Martinez.

Rosary will be said 7:00 pm Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Family Services Funeral Chapel.  Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, officiated by Father Richard Waiwood.  Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.
Neil E. Hyde

Neil E. Hyde, age 65, passed from this life on Friday, April 29, 2011 at his residence in Kermit.  He was born in Wagner, South Dakota on Wednesday, May 23, 1945.  He graduated from Ravina High School before joining the Navy.  He served in Iceland during the Vietnam War and was a member of the American Legion and VFW.  Neil was a heavy equipment operator for Tripp Construction in Odessa for over 12 years.

Neil enjoyed the outdoors, he hunted and fished and liked to take his grandchildren out for joyrides in the “Batmobile”.  He also got a kick out of playing the lottery.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 40  years:  Joyce Hyde of Kermit; daughter:  Tammy Bradford and husband Randon of Kermit; son: Shawn Hyde and wife Misty of Wink; brothers:  Ronnie Hyde of Kermit and Bob Hyde of Chamberlain, SD; sister:  Shelby Marshall and husband Earnie of Sweetwater;  sister-in-law:  Helen Hyde of Fairfax, VA;  five grandchildren:  Danielle, Ramsie, Brandon, Michyla, and McKenna; three great-grandchildren:  Emma, Ean, and Grayson; sixteen nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

His parents:  Vern P. and Elsie I. (Broderson) Hyde and two brothers:  Roger Hyde and Courtney Hyde, precede him in death.

Memorial services with military honors are scheduled for 10:00 am, Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Family Services Funeral Parlor, officiated by Eddie Whitefield.  Honorary Pallbearers will be: Ronnie Hyde, Terry Williams, Raymond Wildman, Jack Dupey, Jeff Lajoie and Pete Pilkington. Services are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Patricia Ann Garcia

Patricia Ann Garcia, age 71, passed away Thursday, May 05, 2011 in Odessa, TX. She was born November 16, 1939 in Gladewater, TX; to Raymond and Cople Lee (Warden) Teague.

Patricia’s greatest love was her family.  She cherished all the time she got to spend with them.  Patricia also enjoyed to travel, and reading a good book.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband: Felix Garcia of Kermit, TX; two sons: Johnny Thomason and wife Charlotte of Austin, TX and James Thomason of Hearne, TX; two daughters: Patti Kay Twaddle and husband Paul of Kermit, TX and Mia Felice Tammad and husband Michael of Kermit, TX; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister: Peggy Day.

Services will be 10:00 am Monday, May 09, 2011 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit, TX. Pallbearers will be: Johnny Thomason, James Thomason, Paul Twaddle, Michael Tammad, Ray Day and Terry Widner.  Honorary Pallbearers will include:  Kenny Day, Ruth Ann Rich, Kerry Brown, Kenny Holder, Chuck Everett and Denny McCombs. Officiated by Pastor John Wade. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery in Kermit, TX.

Thomas Mirron Sanders

Thomas Mirron Sanders, age 76, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2011 in Monahans, TX. He was born May 9, 1934 in Hermleigh, TX to William and Marietta (George) Sanders.

Thomas was a member of the Church of God in Kermit and loved to fish.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife Alice Sanders of Kermit, TX; two step-sons: Oliver Edwards Williamson Jr. and wife Glenda of Stephenville, TX and Walter Williamson and wife Donna of Dublin, TX; two step-daughters: Patricia Newingham and boyfriend Melvin Hopkins Jr. of Kermit, TX and Annie Nelson and husband Charles of San Angelo, TX; two brothers: Clyde Gilbert Sanders of Kermit, TX and T.D. Sanders of TX and fourteen grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Willie Sanders, George Ray Sanders, John Edward Sanders and Jimmy Lee Sanders and one sister: Mary Sue Rea.

Services will be 9:00 am Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Family Services Funeral Parlor in Kermit, with Brother Charlie Nelson officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 pm Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at the Sweetwater Cemetery in Sweetwater, TX. Pallbearers will be: Bobby Ellis, Walter Williamson, Oliver Williamson Jr., James Bowman, Donald Newingham II and Junior Fraiser. Honorary Pallbearer will be Melvin Hopkins Jr.

John Arthur Haley

John Arthur Haley passed away at his home in Kermit on June 5, 2011.  John was born in Midland, Texas on August 16, 1926.  He was raised in Loving and Winkler Counties on the family ranch.  He graduated from Kermit High School in 1943.  John entered the Navy in 1943 and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan until the end of World War II.  John was a cowboy, rancher, trader and writer.  He always loved the country and traveled around “cowboying” all over the west with his good friend, Chalmer Davis.  He was a wonderful husband and father, not only to just his children but several others also.

Survivors are his wife:  Stefanie of the home; sons:  Alan and wife Barbara of Kermit, Mark Haley of Kermit, and John and wife Amy of Rock Hill, South Carolina; daughters: Michele Desilets of Odessa and Mary Haley Thomas and husband Raymond who live on the ranch in Loving County, Texas.  He is also survived by many grandchildren from Texas and South Carolina, and great-grandchildren.  He has many nieces and nephews here in Texas.

Special thanks go out to many people, to a “daughter”, Theresa Victorino, Emily Keen, Linda Mercier, Lynn Humphries, and Betty Jo Harridge for their loving care; to his sons and daughters for their support and love.  Also, thanks to Wendy Walker with Compass Hospice, Naomi Warren FNP for serving his medical needs and going the extra mile.  We thank all of you for being there for us.

There will be a Memorial “Wake” service for John on Saturday, June 18 at the ranch in Loving County at 4:00 pm.  His ashes will be scattered on the ranch per his request.  The family requests that you send no flowers, but make donations to the following:  Haley Library, 1805 W. Weldon “Poppy” Wright

Weldon “Poppy” Wright, age 91, of Kermit, passed from this life on June 5, 2011. He was born on June 2, 1920 is Waurika, OK to John and Maude (Dunn) Wright.

“Poppy,” as he was known to family and friends, was very active in the community of Kermit.  He served as county commissioner for many years and was active with the Lions Club and the Rotary Club.  Weldon was an active member of Belvue Baptist Church and served as a deacon for at least 63 years and was known for his love of singing. 

He leaves behind his wife:  Francis “Sis” Wright of Kermit; one son: Charles W. Wright and wife Barbara J. of Coleman, TX; one daughter:  Joni Morrill and husband Bill of Hobbs, NM; eight grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife:  Pauline; parents John and Maude Wright; son: Jerry R. Wright; three brothers and six sisters.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Belvue Baptist Church in Kermit officiated by Brother Jim Weizenecker.  Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Pallbearers will include Mike Wright, Scott Wright, Jerry Ray Wright, Jerome Wright, Raymond Mallow and Dub King.  Honorary Pallbearers will include:  Brandon Wright, Bradley Wright, Justine Wright, Trey Wright, Jace Wright, Jason Singleton, and Dustin Henderson.

Memorials may be made to the Belvue Baptist Mission Fund,1101 S. Poplar, Kermit, TX 79745.

Martin Wayne Glass

Martin Wayne Glass, age 39, of Kermit passed from this life on June 10, 2011. He was born on November 12, 1971 is Las Animas, Colorado.

Martin, a man who grew up as an only child, found many brothers and sisters in his lifetime.  He was president of the Two-Wheel Motion motorcycle club, and enjoyed spending time outdoors shooting guns and fishing.   Martin was known for his generosity and his passion for helping others.

He leaves behind one son: Jeremy Dakota Glass of Kermit; his mother:  Nancy Glass of Kermit; girlfriend:  Pat Greenleaf of Kermit and her son: Kevin Greenleaf; grandmother:  Pearl Glass of Kermit; three uncles: Pete Glass and wife Zel of Sweetwater, Jerry Glass and wife Shirley of Hutchinson, KS and Carl Glass and wife Cruz of Kermit; and numerous cousins and friends.  

He was preceded in death by his aunt: Charlotte Glass and his uncle: Buddy Glass.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at First United Methodist Church in Kermit with Richard Pharr and Byron Cody officiating.  Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Pallbearers will include Charles Hoggett, Lucky Tiggs, J.R. Fason, D’Shawn Johnson, Bradley Crawford, Will Dougles, Tyrone Dingle and Joe Lara.  Honorary Pallbearers will include Jimmy Zipfel, Don Bynum, Shawn Stout, Billy Bynum, Cesar Ramires, and JR Sanchez.

Naomi Ruth Clements

Naomi Ruth Clements, age 79, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2011 in Kermit, Texas. She was born February 23, 1932 in Nacogdoches, TX to Burton and Violet (Holt) Forse.

Naomi loved working in the yard, growing both flowers and vegetables and she had a special way with animals. Her door was always open and she was a strong woman who took care of others. She was known to many as “Johnnie”.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her son: Earl Hunter and wife Norma Jean of Splendora, TX; five daughters: Nanice Chatham and husband Jr. of Whites Creek, TN; Andrewra Clements and husband Alan Ritchie of Cypress, TX; Sheron McClosky and husband Scott of Splendora, TX; Melonie Modisette and husband John of Huffman, TX and Violet Clements of Kermit; one brother: Wesley Forse and wife JoAnn of Conroe, TX; one sister: Retta Kuehn and husband Alan of Wymer, TX; eighteen grandchildren: Stormy, Damian, Troy, Nicole, Cory, Sarah, K.C., Demi, Eric, Patrick, Dylan, Amber, David, Cherish, Kymber, James Hunter III, Elvin, Lori; eighteen great-grandchildren: Cameron, Hunter, Chris, Caden, Jacob, Daniel, Alex, Seth, Clayton, Brandon, Briana, Kassidy, Kristen, Kayla, Hannah, Rachel, London Kieth and James “Cowboy”.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Herbert Andrew Clements, parents: Burton and Violet Forse, and one son: James Hunter.

A private memorial service will be held at Violet Clement's home on Saturday, July 9, 2011.
