George Reich

George M. Reich, age 88, longtime resident of Kermit, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at the Hospice House in Odessa.  He was born in Electra, TX on January 28, 1922 to George and Katherine (Steadman) Reich.  He married, his love, Betty Tyler on October 8, 1944.  She was the best thing that ever happened to him and they celebrated 66 years together.

George was a very active member of the First Methodist Church in Kermit, where he served on the Finance Committee and Board of Directors and Trustees.  He was also very active in the community where he served on many other committees such as: Chamber of Commerce President (1960), C of C Board of Directors (1970-1972), Outstanding Chairman of C of C (1974-1975), C of C Board of Directors (1979-1981), Outstanding Citizen Kermit (1980-1981), Jaycees, Lions Club Member (1957), President of Lions Club (1998-1999), Booster Club President (1984). He formed Cub Scout Troop 999 in 1980 at Purple Sage School and in 1993 was C of C Ambassador President.  He served his country during WWII flying B-17 bombers in the U.S. and England for the Army Air Forces 8th Division, achieving the rank of 2nd LT.  George ran Reich’s Shoes in Kermit for 37 years.  He enjoyed collecting old button hooks and old shoes, and had a passion for tinkering in his shop where he taught many boys how to fix things. 

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his wife:  Betty Reich of Kermit; son: Larry A. Reich of Coyanosa, TX; Daughter: Suzette Buchanan and husband Jackie of Quinlan, TX; five grandchildren: Larry A. Reich Jr., Laura K. Reich, Jennifer Wright and husband Craig, Janie Buchanan, Michelle Grove and husband Richard; four great-grandchildren: Francine Wright, Phoenix Wright, Tyler Grove and Ryker Grove.

Preceding George in death were his parents: George and Katherine Reich; son:  Ty Reich; brother:  James Reich; and sister: Edatha Germany.

Memorial services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 23, 2010 at First United Methodist Church in Kermit, officiated by Dr. John Wade.  Services are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.
Floyd McCune Mathis

Floyd McCune Mathis, age 91, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2010 in Jal, NM. He was born Sunday, August 31, 1919 in Lexington, TX to Walter and Annie Vista (Tate) Mathis.

Floyd was transferred to Jal with Parker Drilling Company. He was the owner of Mathis Pumping and Roustabout Service and Floyd’s Oilfield Supply. He pumped until July 2010. Floyd was known among his friends as “Speedy” and to his family as “Poppy" and "Pa”.  He loved being a grandpa and great-grandpa as well as a great-great-grandpa. He loved dancing and could do a little of everything. In 1993, he received an award for ”Pioneer of the Year”.

Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife: Faye Mathis of Jal; two daughters: Kay Newman of Jal and Charlotte Holley and husband Jerry of  AL; one step son: Elbert Clemens and wife Marilynn of Baton Rouge, LA;  two step daughters: Mae James and husband Frank of Odessa, TX and Shirley Kennedy and husband Don of Gardendale, TX; eleven grandchildren: Connie Bennett and husband Bruce of Rowlett, TX; Jimmy Dean Holley and Kevin Dee Holley both of AL; Tammie Shipp and husband Kraig of AL; Scotty Lee Newman of Dallas, TX; Casey Lynn Newman and wife Christy of San Antonio, TX; Angie Woodruff and husband Brady of Newnan, GA; Erica Torres and husband Rolando of Jal; Donna Carrasco and husband Rene of Midland, TX; Heather Walker and husband John of Ft. Worth, TX and Kristi Bigler and husband Michael of Ft. Worth; nine great-grandchildren: Alexander Bennett, Alexis Torres, Alyssa (Lizzie) Torres, Macy Woodruff, Braden Woodruff, Jimmy James Dean Holley, Amanda Ramos, Jennifer Holley Vineyard and Matthew (Walden) Hunt; thirteen great-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and one god daughter: Lydia Ornelas.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Walter and Annie Mathis, one daughter: Connie Sue Buton, one grandson: Mathew Walden, one granddaughter: Rebecca Sue Walden, four brothers and five sisters.

Services will be 1:00 pm MST, Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church in Jal, NM, officiated by Pastor Alan Speed. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery in Kermit, TX. Pallbearers will be: Duane Walden, Mike Walden, Jim Pettit, Jesse Guzman, Daniel Beza and Shorty Juarez. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Connie Bennett, Tammy Shipp, Angie Woodruff, Erica Torres, Donna Carrasco, Heather Walker and Kristi Bigler.

Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Amanda Jane Henderson

Amanda Jane Henderson, age 30, passed away on Friday, November 05, 2010. She was born in Ft. Stockton, Texas to Terry and Diana (Dutton) Henderson on January 11, 1980.   

She loved music and hanging out with her friends. She had a nurturing heart and loved caring for children and her family.  She had a smile that would light up a room. 

Those left to cherish her memory are one son: Kolton Keen of Wink, TX; one daughter: Kinsley Keen of Wink; mother: Diana Henderson of Wink; three brothers: Todd Henderson and wife Michelle of Conroe, TX; Tracy Henderson and wife Gina of Montgomery, TX; John Henderson and wife Mindy of Saginaw, TX; grandparents: Marshall and Betty Dutton of Springfield, VT; two nieces: Heather Henderson and Hillary Henderson; three nephews: Bradley Henderson, Thomas Henderson and Bryce Henderson; one great niece: Lilly Henderson; one uncle: Mark Dutton; and one aunt: Cindy Pierce. 

She was preceded by her father: Terry Henderson and her grandparents: Evans D. and Joy B. Henderson. 

Memorial services will be 4:00 pm, Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Grace Temple Baptist Church in Kermit, officiated by Brother John Curry.  Honorary Pallbearers will include Carlos Lopez, Adrian Armendariz, Thomas Henderson, Bradly Henderson, Phillip Lara, Tim Lara, and Peter Lara.

Faith Bickle

Faith Bickle, age 65, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Hospice House in Odessa.  She was born in Rising Star, Texas on Thursday, January 22, 1945 to Lonnie and Mildred (Mallow) Shockey.  

Faith was an active member of the Wink Church of Christ.  She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and was a member of the Monahans Tea Party.   Faith was a very active person had many things she loved to do.  She could be found working on arts and crafts, gardening, reading, shopping for antiques, feeding the birds or you might have had the opportunity to see her roller skating (when she was younger). She was known to her family and friends as “Punk” or PunKin”. She loved her grandkids. 

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband:  A. H. (Armon) Bickle of Kermit; three sons:  Roger Short and wife Lisa of Vinton, LA, Mark Short and wife Brandi of Kermit, and Cody Wayne Short of Kermit; two daughters:  Julie White and husband Robert of Wink, and Dinelle James and husband Frank of Lubbock; one brother: Joe Shockey and wife Coleen of Balmorhea; two sisters: Dorita Burgess of Odessa and Julina Lindsey and husband Ray of Brady; eight grandchildren:  Bobby, Chad, J.J., J.W., Stetson, Dylan, Tristen, and Cayden. 

Those preceding her in death include her parents:  Lonnie and Mildred Shockey; her first husband:  H.D. “Okie” Short; daughter: Angela Short; two brothers:  Billy and Gayland Shockey; and grandson: Peyton.  

Services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Family Services Funeral Chapel with the Brother Tommy Williamson officiating.  Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.   Pallbearers will include Roger Short, Pepper Morris, Dennis Morris, Mark Short, Cody Short and Chad Short.  Honorary Pallbearers will include James Marlow, Phillip Holley, Robert White, and Frank James.   

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tea Party of Monahans.

Joel Ramos Mendias and Joel Christian Ramos

Joel Ramos Mendias, age 24, and his son Joel Christian Ramos, age 3, passed from this life on Friday, November 05, 2010 in a tragic car accident just outside of Kermit.  Joel was born in Ojinaga, MX on January 22, 1986 to Ubaldo Ramos and Cristina (Mendias) Sapien.  Christian was born in Odessa on October 14, 2007, to Joel Mendias and Keeri Johnson.


Joel was known to his friends as “Pelon”. He enjoyed fishing, listening to music, and barbequing for friends and family. He was a very loving father.  He loved watching his boys growing up.

Christian was a fun loving young man.  He enjoyed playing with his brother, watching Sponge Bob, and going to the Park.


Those left to cherish the memories of both Joel and Christian are: wife/mother: Keeri Johnson of Kermit; one son/brother: Ezequiel Ramos of Kermit; father/grandfather: Ubaldo Ramos and wife Maria of Ojinaga, MX; mother/grandmother: Cristina Sapien and husband Jose of Kermit; mother-in-law/grandmother: Denice Broadsteet and husband John of Carlsbad, NM; father-in-law/grandfather:  Jason B Johnson; two brothers/uncles: Raul Ramos and wife Judith of Kermit, and Luis Ramos of Kermit; three sisters-in-law/aunts:  Amber Christesson and husband Paul of Carlsbad, NM, Kristin Adams and husband Jacob of Germany, and Makiah Johnson of Carlsbad, NM; one brother-in-law/uncle:  Jason Tyler Johnson of Carlsbad, NM; grandparents/great-grandparents: Rufina Salinas of Ojinaga, MX and Evangelina De Anda of Ojinaga, MX and many other extended family members.


They are preceded in death by two grandfathers/great-grandfathers: Apolonio Mendias and Ramon Ramos.


Funeral services will be 2:00 am Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at La Hermosa Pentecostal Church in Kermit, officiated by Pastor Ruben Sanchez.  Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Maxine L. Peddicord

Maxine L. Peddicord, age 66, of Midland, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 23, 2010.  She was born on April 11, 1944 to Harry F. and Ruth Kelly Lynn in Helena, Ark.  She was a retired RN and full time grandmother.  She enjoyed painting, gardening, cooking, and golf.  She was a strong, generous, graceful woman who was never afraid to face life’s challenges.

She leaves behind her daughters:  Danita Perez and husband Rene of Kermit, Kim Simon and husband Ralph of Odessa, and Susan Cooper and husband Charlie of Midland; five grandchildren:  Amanda Arnold Tucker, Mallary Arnold Rideout, Cody Perez, Stephanie Talbott, and Seth Cooper; three great-grandchildren:  Cameron and Kolton Rideout and Evan Tucker; and one brother: Harry F. Lynn Jr. and wife Marilyn of Cherokee Village, Ark. 

She was preceded in death by her husband: Dr. Harper Peddicord, her parents, her brothers: Allen Lynn, Robert Lynn, and sister: Velma Lucy, and her best friends Bandit and Jackson Peddicord.

A memorial services in planned for Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Family Services Funeral Chapel at 11 am in Kermit.

Darby Joy Haley

Darby Joy Haley, age 75, passed from this life on Wednesday, December 01, 2010 in Kermit, TX.  She was born August 20, 1935 to Algee Buel and Gladys Blanche (Powers) Crabb in Ballinger, TX.  

Darby was an artist who enjoyed painting, and working with ceramics and stained glass. She studied Native American Culture.  She loved nature, ranching, and traveling. She was a member of Belvue Baptist Church and greatly valued God’s word. 

She is survived by her son: Robert Lee Haley and wife Sharon of Brownwood, TX; three daughters: Sherry Jene Baily and husband Jack of Odessa, Darby Ann Mitchell and husband Billy of Midland, and Anita Janette Haley of Kermit; two brothers; Lawrence Rayburn and wife Samantha of Verhalen, TX and Harlan Rayburn of Pecos; ten grandchildren: Christopher Haley and wife Teresa, Dawson Haley, Kendra Alvarez and husband  Robert, Miranda Navarro, John Mitchell and wife Amanda, Matt Mitchell, Jerold Mitchell and wife Jennifer, Tiffany Haley, Kyle Haley and Emily Haley; fourteen great-grandchildren: Brooklyn Owens, Tyler Haley, Macaela Owens, Alyssa Owens, Megan Haley, Josie Hudman, Alexis Haley, Brandon Haley, Justin Haley, Cheyenne Navarro, Hayden Mitchell, Brittany Haley, Avery Mitchell and Daniel Haley. 

She was preceded in death by her husband: Gene Haley; parents: Algee and Gladys Crabb and one son: Dawson Trent Haley.  

Graveside services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 04, 2010 at Haley Family Cemetery officiated by Pastor Grady Chastian. Pallbearers will include Lee Haley, Dawson Haley, Chris Haley, John Mitchell, Jerold Mitchell and Matt Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle Haley, Billy Mitchell and Jack Bailey.

Esteban Corrales Muniz

Esteban Corrales Muniz, age 55, passed away Thursday, December 02, 2010 in Kermit. He was born December 26, 1943 in Ojinaja, MX to Faustino Juarez and Maria (Corrales) Muniz.

Esteban loved fishing, playing baseball, playing the guitar and singing. He also enjoyed watching sports and was a fan of the Cowboys, Cubs, Longhorns and Yellow Jackets. He was known as “Tio Mando” or “Mando” to his friends and family.

Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife:  Romana Muniz of Kermit; four sons: Esteban M. Muniz and fiancÚ Angela of Kermit; Victor Muniz and wife Virginia of Jal, NM; Javier Muniz and wife Christina of Midland, and Arturo Villa Muniz and wife Kari of Odessa; one daughter: Elizabeth Abila and husband Alvaro of Sierra Vista, AZ; four brothers: Eugene Albino Muniz and wife Amparo of Kermit, Oscar Muniz and wife Alecia of El Paso, and Francisco “Pancho” Muniz and wife Augustina of Kermit; and Trinidad Muniz of Presido; two sisters: Petra Perez of Austin and Genovena Figuero of Odessa; thirteen grandchildren: Esteban Muniz Jr., Nicole Muniz, Viktor Muniz, Zachary Muniz, Nicholas Muniz, Ashley Muniz, Kaitlyn Muniz, Mateo Muniz, Iridian Muniz, Kaleb Muniz, Gabrian Muniz, Domenick Abila and Jayden Abila.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Elauterio Muniz and Faustinio Muniz Jr.; one sister: Teresa Lopez; and one grandson: Stevie Muniz.

Rosary will be said 7:00 pm Saturday, December 04 and Sunday, December 05, 2010 at the family home, located at 716 South Ave B in Kermit, TX. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Monday, December 06, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit, TX. Celebrant will be Father Richard Waiwood. Pallbearers will be Esteban Muniz, Victor Muniz, Javier Muniz, Arturo Muniz, Esteban Muniz Jr. and Viktor Muniz. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of his grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Jimmy Ray Carr

Jimmy Ray Carr, age 79, passed from this life on Thursday, December 02, 2010 in Wichita Falls, TX.  He was born October 3, 1931 to Mood and Ruby (Mulloy) Carr in Amherst, TX.

Jim, as he was known to his friends and family, was an active outdoorsman who loved golf and fishing.  He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by two sons: David Carr and wife Sheri of Stanton and Kyle Carr of Benbrook, TX; daughter:  Debby Tucker and husband Mark of Wichita Falls; two brothers:  Ben Carr and wife Earlene of Denver City and Bob Carr of Sweetwater; four grandchildren:  Heather Carr, Traci Carr, Stephanie Owen and Jeff McLaughlin; and one great-grandchild: Grayson McLaughlin.  

He was preceded in death by his parents: Mood and Ruby Carr; two sisters:  Dorothy Rucker and Martha Carr; one brother: Acee Carr.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM, Sunday, December 05, 2010 at the Kermit Cemetery officiated by Brother Dudley Mullins.  Services are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made any Hospice Organization. 

Margaret Lee Ramey Stevenson

Margaret Lee Ramey Stevenson, age 84, went to meet her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 04, 2010 in Kermit.  She was born in Oletha Community, Limestone County, Texas on Monday, November 22, 1926 to Earl and Beulah (Pringle) Ramey.

Margaret was raised in the Oletha and Beulah Community where she met the love of her life,  George Stevenson. They cherished 45 years together until his passing in 1989. They enjoyed many years of fishing at Red Bluff Lake with their friends. Margaret has lived in Kermit since 1945 where she and George raised their children. She was a very active Charter member of the Belvue Baptist Church. Margaret enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Senior Citizens Center playing cards, dominoes and other games. She loved to travel and collect bears. She had a passion for cooking and was known for her chicken and dumplings and German chocolate cake. She was known to her friends and family as “Nana”.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two daughters: Georgia Lee Johnston of Victoria, TX and Evelyn Jenice Lockwood of Kermit; sister: Bennie Ruth Lenamond and husband Granville “G.W.” of Groesbeck, TX; four grandchildren: Larry Lockwood and wife Mandy of Kermit; Regina Mills and husband Kevin and Ronald Johnston and wife Jeanette, all of Victoria, TX and Tara Lockwood of Conroe, TX; five great-grandchildren: Hannah Lockwood, Charity Langridge, Brittany Barnett, Tyler Lockwood and Alicia Johnston and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. 

Those preceding her in death include her husband: George Marshell Stevenson; her parents: Earl and Beulah Ramey; one grandson: Michael Lockwood and two sons-in-law: Ronnie Johnston and Clovis L. Lockwood.  

Family Visitation is scheduled for 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 am Wednesday, December 08, 2010 at Belvue Baptist Church in Kermit with the Rev. Bill Campbell officiating and assisted by Rev. Johnny Touchstone. Another service will be scheduled for 2:00 pm Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Oletha Baptist Church in Oletha Community, TX with Rev. Bill Sutton officiating.  Interment will follow at Ferguson Cemetery in Oletha Community, TX.   Pallbearers will include Gary Roark, Steven Underwood, Jerry Purcell, Kirk Taylor, Ronald Johnston and Larry Lockwood.  Honorary Pallbearers will include Jimmy Lenamond, Darwin Jones, Dale Tankersley, Tony Underwood, Brett Marler and Tyler Lockwood. 

Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Calvin Levis Awbrey Jr.

Calvin Levis Awbrey Jr., age 63, passed from this life on Tuesday, December 07, 2010 in Odessa, TX.  He was born in Bakersfield, CA on Friday, February 21, 1947 to Calvin Levis Awbrey Sr. and wife Faye (Holland) Awbrey. Levis worked for Big Dave’s Rentals in Odessa.


Those left to cherish his memory are his wife:  Maria Awbrey of Monahans, TX; four sons: Calvin Levis Awbrey III of Kermit, Jimmy Awbrey and wife Yvonne of Wichita Falls, TX, Brian Awbrey and wife Claudia of Kermit, and Alex Awbrey of Wichita Falls; and nine grandchildren: Ashley, Taylor, Austin, Devin, Brayden, Jayden, Andrew, Marla and Matthew.


He is preceded in death by his parents: Calvin and Faye Awbrey.


Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, December 10, 2010 at Eastside Church of Christ in Kermit, officiated by Brother Gene Collins. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.
