Merline Plunkett

Merline Plunkett, age 86, of Kermit, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Permian Residential Care Center in Andrews.  She was born in Caster, LA on August 1, 1924 to John C. Givens and Rose (Lee) Givens.  She married Allen Gene “A. G.” Plunkett on March 9, 1942 in Tallulah, LA.  They enjoyed over 65 years together until separated by his death in 2007.

Her parents; two brothers:  Fred and Jack; sisters:  Bernice, Mamie, and Allie; son:  Jerry Allen; and great-grandson:  J. D. also preceded her in death.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her sons:  Douglas Plunkett and wife Pat of Kermit and David Plunkett and wife Linda of Wink; two brothers:  William and Ray Givens, both of Tallulah, LA; two sisters:  Mildred Overlees of Anchorage, AK and Inez Lollor of Mantachie, MS; seven grandchildren:  Ronnie, Willie, Jerrilynn, Cristi, Donnie, Billy, and Melissa; and ten great-grandchildren:  Nathaniel, Bailey, Cody, Britaney, Tray, Kristopher, Lexie, Amanda, Alicia, Clayton, Hanna, Shaylea, Caiden and Parker; one great-great grandchild: Kolie.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Family Services Funeral Chapel, officiated by Chaplain Brian Johnson.  Pallbearers will be Donnie Plunkett, Tony Romine, Billy Plunkett, Ronnie Plunkett, Willie Plunkett, and Kristopher Plunkett. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Services are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.
Wade Torrance Cox

Wade Torrance Cox, age 81, of Kermit, passed away Sunday, September 19, 2010 in Kermit.  He was born in Wortham, TX on February 5, 1929 to Vastine Truman and Ethel L. (Solomon) Cox.  Wade enjoyed playing dominoes, telling jokes, making people laugh and having a barbeque with the guys. He was Baptist and also a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his wife: Louise Cox of Kermit; two sons: Wade L. Cox and Vanessa of Gonzalez, LA and Joseph (Joey) V.V. Cox of Brooklyn, NY; two daughters: Carolyn A. Cox of Plano, TX and Cecilia Cox Hayes of Kermit; four grandchildren: Tonya Hayes, Wade L. Cox Jr., Cassandra L. Cox and Joey Cox; three great-grandchildren: Julian Hayes, Ethan Hayes and Jamarcus Hayes.

Wade was preceded in death by his parents:  Vastine and Ethel Cox; and  two brothers:  Vastine T. Cox Jr. and Santa Anna Cox.

There will be a family visitation from 6 - 7 pm, Friday, September 24, 2010 at Family Services Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Belvue Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Bill Tatum.  Pallbearers will be: Lee Hanna, Gonzo Cano, Jeff Lajoie, Toby Holley, Joseph (Joey) Cox and Doug King. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Wade L Cox, Joey Cox, Windell Terry, Milton Fraiser; Kendall Shannon, Sonny Solomon, Kurt Bryant, Malcolm Bryant, Deon Bryant, Jacob Garcia, Billy Thompson, and Tommy Escomina.  Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Services are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

 
Morris Arnold Flora

Morris Arnold Flora, age 73, of Kermit, passed away on Monday, October 4, 2010 at the Hospice House in Odessa.  He was born on Monday, January 4, 1937 in Burnet, TX to George and Georgia (Brown) Flora.  Morris married the love of his life, Glenice, on March 24, 1958 in Austin.  He loved being a grandfather and great-grandfather.  Instead of  having a green thumb his family says he had green hands which let him grow anything in his garden. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years:  Glenice Flora of Kermit; three sons: Ricky Flora and wife Karolyn of Carlsbad, NM, Ronald (Bug) Flora and Samuel Flora both of Kermit; two daughters:  Darla Skeen and Glynda Coleman and husband Mark all of Kermit; ten grandchildren:  Jennifer Rico; Amanda Flora; Dustin Weddle; Dawson Flora; John Flora; Krissy Flora; Kaity Flora; Marissa Coleman; Mari Coleman and William Skeen; and five great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents:  George and Georgia Flora; two brothers and four sisters. 

Graveside Services will be 3 pm, Thursday, October 7, 2010 at the Psalm 23 Cemetery in the Perry Addition.

Edgar Helms

Edgar Helms, age 87, of Kermit, passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 in Kermit.  He was born on Sunday, September 23, 1923 in Cardin, OK to Jessie Lynn and Sarah Ann (Money) Helms.   He married his love, Irene Morris, in Henryetta, OK on March 23, 1940 and she preceded him death in 2001. 

Edgar enjoyed fishing, hunting and reading his Bible. The church was a big part of his life. He was known as “Brother Love” and always had candy in his pocket for the kids. His family was very dear to him and he was always helping those in need.  

Those left to cherish his memory are two sons: Donald Helms and wife Dianne of Valley View, TX; and Eddie Helms and wife Peggy of Lovington, NM; two daughters: Polly Beeler and husband Donald of Cross Plains, TX and Pennye Segars and husband Randy of Aubrey, TX; brother: Carl Parnell and wife Mabel of Fresno, CA; sisters: Lenora Mongelli and husband John of Clovis, CA and Lillian Audelo and husband Joe of Clovis, CA; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and special friend: Lanette Counts. 

He is preceded in death by his wife: Irene Morris Helms; his parents: Jessie Lynn Helms and Sarah Ann Helms; two daughters: Margie Helms and Debra Helms; two brothers: Jack Parnell and Bill Parnell Hardin; and two sisters: Rena Martin and Hueldeen Rosiere. 

Services will be 2:00 pm, Friday, October 8, 2010 at Belvue Baptist Church in Kermit, officiated by Rev. Jim Weizenecker. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be: Gail Reeves, James Burns, Jerry Purcell, James (Red) Segars, Dub King and Mitchell Sims. Honorary Pallbearer will be Weldon Wright. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Belvue Baptist Church “Fish Fry Fund”, PO Box 955, Kermit, TX 79745.

Perry Lee “P.J.” Jeffery Jr.

Perry Lee “P.J.” Jeffery Jr., age 23, of Odessa, passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 in Midland.  He was born on Saturday, January 24, 1987 in Monahans, TX to Perry Lee Jeffery Sr. and Sylvia Lara (Porras) Fuller. 

P.J. loved skateboarding, being with his friends and family, music and “trying“ to dance. He was a hard worker and a great Dad.  

Those left to cherish his memory are two daughters: Kaylina Jeffery and Anjaleena Jeffery of Odessa; father: Perry Lee Jeffery Sr. and wife Adriana of Odessa; mother: Sylvia Fuller of Greenwood, TX; Grandparents: Tommy Lee Jeffery Sr. and wife Karen of Odessa; Chon Porras of Monahans, and Barbara Stewart of Torrence, CA; four brothers: Michael Jeffery of Odessa, Robert Rios and wife Elisa Mercado of Odessa, Joe Galindo of Kermit, and Enova Urias of CO; five sisters: Carla Shipley and husband Toby Eaton of Odessa, Tiara Burch of Greenwood, TX, Vanessa Galindo of Odessa, Bianca Urias of Midland, and Natalie Urias of Odessa. 

He is preceded in death by his wife: Jenna Vela and his uncle: Tommy Lee Jeffery Jr. 

Services will be 2:00 pm, Monday, October 11, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Kermit, officiated by Dwight Phillips. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Robert Rios, Joe Galindo, Seth Skinner and Toby Eaton, Julio Reyes, and Mark Chaves.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Adam Jeffery and Michael Jeffery.

Elvin L. Kimball

Elvin L. Kimball, age 78, passed from this life on Thursday, October 07, 2010 at Mitchell County Hospital in Colorado City, TX.  He was born in Seiling, OK on June 16, 1932 to Robert and Inez (Turlington) Kimball.  He married Betty Harbin in Hobbs, NM on August 25, 1955.  They raised four children together and were later blessed with eight grandchildren to spoil.  They were members of the Baptist church.  Elvin was a US Air Force veteran.

 

Mr. Kimball loved to play ball with his boys.  He retired from Chevron Oil after 22 years of service as a pumper.  Retirement gave him time to spend on the things he enjoyed such as fishing, being outdoors, and watching football and basketball.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Betty Kimball of Colorado City; three sons:  Bruce Kimball and wife Vicki of Kingsville, Bobby Kimball and wife Linda of Jal, NM, and Barry Kimball and wife Jerri of Colorado City; daughter:  Mala Spence and husband Keith of Vale, AZ; and eight grandchildren:  Tyler Kimball, Meagan Odom and husband Chris, Brock Kimball, Brittani Kimball, Shelby Kimball, Luke Spence, MacKenzie Kimball, and Kaitlyn Kimball.

 

His parents and one sister:  Vinita Duncan, precede him in death.

 

Funeral services will be 10:00 am Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Family Services Funeral Chapel of Kermit, officiated by Rev. Alan Speed.  Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor.

Arthur Ray (Andy) Anderson

Arthur Ray (Andy) Anderson, resident of Midland and former resident of Kermit, passed away October 7, 2010 at the age of 89 in the Memorial Care Center in Seminole, Texas.  Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Kermit Cemetery in Kermit, Texas, officiated by Pastor Steve Long.  Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor of Kermit.  Online condolences may be sent at fs-fp.com.

Andy was born to Arthur “Aus” and Addie Anderson in Wichita Falls, Texas and attended school in Clara, Texas.  He served in the United States Air Force during World War II, working in the North American aircraft factory in California prior to enlistment.  After the war, he spent 39 years in the employment of Gulf Oil Corporation and Chevron fulfilling his uncle’s prophesy, “Sonny boy, if you wear out a pair of shoes in the oil patch, you will never leave”.  In 1952, he married Johnnie Elma Liles Anderson and with her three children had an instant family.  In 1953 a daughter was added to the family.  Soon after marriage, Andy accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and joined Grace Temple Baptist Church of Kermit, Texas.  He was committed and faithful; serving his God, church and family.  When given the responsibility of teaching young boys, he was convicted to give up smoking to be the example they needed.

Left to cherish the memory of our beloved Daddy and Granddad are his wife, daughter Deanna Anderson McDonald and husband Pat, her sons Chance and Andrew and stepdaughter Amber.  Also surviving him are his stepdaughter Anita Fern Hudgpeth and husband J. D., and their son Jay and his family and the family of their son Eddy Ray; and his stepson son Albert R Anderson, Jr , wife Gloria and their children Johnny, Billy and Gloria Ann and their families.  He also leaves behind his sister Mabel Dean Walkup and brother Homer Rex Anderson and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Faye Stradley, stepson Billy Don Anderson, and his first buddy and grandson Eddy Ray Hudgpeth.

Porfirio Rodriguez Flores

Porfirio R. Flores, age 62, passed from this life on Thursday, October 07, 2010 in Juarez, MX, TX.  He was born September 15, 1948 to Cirilo and Elvira (Rodriguez) Flores in Bosque Bonita, MX.

He is survived by his wife Maria Isabell Flores Sanches of Juarez, MX; his mother: Elvira R. Florez of Van Horn, TX; one son: Porifiro E. Flores Jr. of Juarez, MX; four daughters:  Christina Florez of Van Horn, TX, Araceli Flores, Aida Flores and Elizabeth Flores all of Juarez, MX; brother: Israel R. Flores and wife Elvira of Juarez, MX; eight sisters:  Juana F. Valdez and husband Sylverio, Velia F. Mendez and huaband Porifiro, Delia F. Maese and husband Jesus, Lidia F. Baraza and husband Vicente, Letecia F. Briones and husband Edmundo, Yolanda F. Lopes and husband Ramon, Francis Salizar and husband Jose, Alma Flores and husband Simon, three grandchildren:  Imari Flores; Mark Anthony Flores and Daniel Flores, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were 2:00 pm, Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at La Hermosa Church in Kermit.  Interment followed at Kermit Cemetery.

Mary Juanita Smith

Mary Juanita Smith, age 78, passed from this life on Sunday, October 10, 2010 in Sterling City, TX.  She was born January 30 , 1932 to Rex and Mary (Beard) Samford in Waco, TX.

She is survived by two sons: Terry Clardy and wife Pat of Hobbs, NM and Billy Jack Clardy and wife Doris of Perryton, TX; one daughter: Mary Ellen Patterson and husband Robert of Houston, TX; twelve grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 3:00 pm, Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Kermit Cemetery.  Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.

Israel Rodriguez Flores

Israel R. Flores, age 57, passed from this life on Friday, October 15, 2010 in Juarez, MX.  He was born October 5, 1953 to Cirilo and Elvira (Rodriguez) Flores in Ojos Calientes, MX.

He is survived by his wife: Elvira Flores of Juarez, MX;  his mother: Elvira R. Flores of Van Horn, TX; three sons: Israel Flores Jr. of Oklahoma City, OK, Jacobo Flores of Juarez, MX, and Antonio Flores of Torreon, MX; four daughters:  Estella Flores of Las Cruces, NM, Dina Flores of Van Horn, TX, Naomi Flores, and Veronica Flores both of Juarez, MX; eight sisters:  Juana F. Valdez and husband Sylverio, Velia F. Mendez and huaband Porifiro, Delia F. Maese and husband Jesus, Lidia F. Baraza and husband Vicente, Letecia F. Briones and husband Edmundo, Yolanda F. Lopes and husband Ramon, Francis Salizar and husband Jose, Alma Flores Estrada and husband Simon, and many grandchildren.

Nellie Rose Forga

Nellie Rose Forga, age 92, of May, TX passed from this life on Friday, October 15, 2010.  She was born in Glenwood, Arkansas on May 26, 1918 to John and Amy (Long) Tidwell.  She was a member of the Baptist Church.  Nellie had been a resident of Winkler County since 1952. She retired at the age of 80 from Kermit Healthcare Center where she was a cook for many years.

Nellie is survived by her sons:  Dwight Forga and wife Sandra, of Brownwood, TX, Wendell Forga and wife Brenda of Wolf City, TX, and Tony Forga and wife Elizabeth of Budapest, Hungary; daughters: Edith Ater and Cledith Grundy and husband Jim, all of May, TX, Ramona Myers and husband Jerry of Dickinson, TX, Shelia Roberts and husband Jeff and Cheri Ivanhoe and husband Karl, all of Midland, TX; brother: Kenny Tidwell of Arkansas; sisters: Ella Mae McLain and Mildred Scroggs, both from Arkansas; 23 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Audie Forga; and son: Larry Gene Forga.

Funeral services are set for 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit, TX, officiated by Karl Ivanhoe, son-in-law. Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be the great-grandchildren, Kolby Ivanhoe, Jared Ivanhoe, Hillary Ivanhoe, Landon Forga, Rachel Forga, Casey Forga, Jonathan Forga, Heather Ridgeway, and Amanda Ridgeway.
